Video – Sarah Palin, Vanity Fair, and Keith Olbermann’s Worse Person?

So let me get this straight: Vanity Fair smears Sarah Palin in their magazine with unfounded accusations and Keith Olbermann makes her the worse (not the worst) person in the world?  What the hell is wrong with him?  It’s like he lives and breaths Sarah Palin Derangement Syndrome.  Remember when David Letterman joked about Alex Rodriguez knocking up Sara Palin’s kids?  Guess who’s fault it was…according to Keith Olbermann? You guessed it – Sarah Palin’s.  She’s such a child exploiter!

Well here’s the latest Palin attack by Olbermann and it’s all based on one line in the Vanity Fair article:

When Trig was born, Palin wrote an e-mail letter to friends and relatives, describing the belated news of her pregnancy and detailing Trig’s condition; she wrote the e-mail not in her own name but in God’s, and signed it “Trig’s Creator, Your Heavenly Father.”

Now when I read that line, considering it’s true, I just assume that for a moment she must’ve thought she was God and she must have an even bigger Messiah complex than The One.  Oh, wait, you didn’t get that? Oh, well, I suppose you could infer an alternate meaning that she was so immensely blessed by the miracle of Trig’s birth and life that she just knew what God would say if He were to write a letter to everyone announcing Trig’s birth, and then wrote what she felt He would say.  I guess ol’ Keithy boy has never experienced that kind of happiness and connection with God, so that he can’t relate and must criticize something he doesn’t understand.

JERK.

Well, here’s the video, if you can stand it.

What is the Fate of Honduras?

Today the UN passed a resolution that “condemned what it called a coup d’etat and demanded ‘the immediate and unconditional restoration of the legitimate and constitutional government’ of Zelaya.”  With countries such as France, Ecuador, Chile, Spain, Argentina, and the United States condemning the new government and with the EU threatening to pull out their ambassadors in protest, this puts mounting pressure on Honduras.  Zelaya has vowed to come back to the country and Honduras has vowed to arrest him as soon as he does, with Zelaya facing up to 20 years in prison.

So what happens now? Can Honduras stand the world pressure and long enough for another president to be elected?  Will the world win and Zelaya be put back in power? Some believe that it will be a miracle if Honduras can withstand this mounting pressure. I hope that the world will come to accept Honduras’ actions in ousting Zelaya because it was truly the best thing to happen to Honduras.

What do you think?

Obama is On the Wrong Side of Honduras Coup

Obama is  touting the illegality of the apparent coup in Honduras as if it’s evil incarnate, but he doesn’t seem to be talking any further into why this coup happened. There must be something else at work here because his (along with other world leaders) judgment seems quite  illogical based on the actual facts of the case:

That Mr. Zelaya acted as if he were above the law, there is no doubt. While Honduran law allows for a constitutional rewrite, the power to open that door does not lie with the president. A constituent assembly can only be called through a national referendum approved by its Congress.

But Mr. Zelaya declared the vote on his own and had Mr. Chávez ship him the necessary ballots from Venezuela. The Supreme Court ruled his referendum unconstitutional, and it instructed the military not to carry out the logistics of the vote as it normally would do.

The top military commander, Gen. Romeo Vásquez Velásquez, told the president that he would have to comply. Mr. Zelaya promptly fired him. The Supreme Court ordered him reinstated. Mr. Zelaya refused.

Calculating that some critical mass of Hondurans would take his side, the president decided he would run the referendum himself. So on Thursday he led a mob that broke into the military installation where the ballots from Venezuela were being stored and then had his supporters distribute them in defiance of the Supreme Court’s order.

The attorney general had already made clear that the referendum was illegal, and he further announced that he would prosecute anyone involved in carrying it out. Yesterday, Mr. Zelaya was arrested by the military and is now in exile in Costa Rica.

This ‘military coup’ had the backing of the Honduran Congress, Attorney General, and the Supreme Court.  Once ousted, the Honduran Congress acted quickly to instate Robert Micheletti to finish Zelaya’s term.

I’m just not sure why this is so complicated for world leaders to understand, but Zelaya was attempting his own takeover of the government, and was thwarted by well meaning officials. He was trying to accomplish what Hugo Chavez had done in Venezuela.  In fact, almost all of the readers here who claim heritage to Honduras agree with this coup, expressing frustration that Zelaya is being portrayed as a victim by the press.  Here are a few of their comments:

DANIELA
FINALLY SOMEONE WITH A SMART AND REALISTIC OPINION! LOOKS LIKE HE HAS DONE PROPER RESEARCH! I DON’T KNOW WHY OTHER COUNTRIES ARE VICTIMIZING A TYRANT! HE THINKS HE IS ABOVE THE LAW AND THAT HE CAN DO WHATEVER HE WANTS! WE REFUSE TO BECOME LEFTISTS! WE ARE DEMOCRATIC AND HAVE HANDLED THINGS THE BEST WAY WE CAN! WE WILL NOT BE MANIPULATED! WE WILL FIGHT FOR THE COUNTRY WE LOVE! EVERYONE SHOULD RESPECT OUR FREEDOM AND AUTONOMY! IT IS OUR DECISION!

pierelli
The international community needs to understand that Zelaya was destroying our democracy and following orders from Chavez to fulfill a plan where they would change Honduras’s way of government and turn it into another Venezuela.

We Hondurans don’t want Mel Zelaya back in Honduras. We want to continue with our way of living. Zelaya has only brought trouble and division among our country, and 90% of Hondurans don’t like him and are happy with what happened. He wanted to do everything over the law, and eventually he had to be replaced. In defense of the constitution.

Please be well informed before judging. Don’t support a Chavez wanna be!

Max Fiallos
Someone in the US is getting it right! I am a Honduran Scholar in the US and I am appalled at how one-sided the majority of the media coverage in the US has been (pro-Zelaya), with little mention of the many laws that Zelaya broke in the days prior to his ouster. The Armed Forces acted upon a court order and quickly returned power to the Honduras Congress, just as the Constitution indicates. These events should not be labeled as a coup, but as a President who was removed from power for illegal activities.

LISSETE
…I am honduran and appreciate your point of view because we need to tell the whole world that CHAVEZ wants to send more soldiers to Honduras but we will defend our CONSTITUTION.We are a poor country and we have dignity,we don’t want to be like Cuba,Nicaragua,Venezuela…

CECI
The citizens of Honduras are proud of what the Armed Forces, Our congress and our Justice system accomplished!!We were well on our way to a totalitarian Government under Chavez rule!! Why else would he threaten to invade our country?? Thank GOD they all acted when they did because GOD only knows what would be happening here right now!! Tomorrow at 10 am in the capitals central park there will be a manifestation by the people who agree with what happend! I hope you all watch to see the difference between how many people supported Mr Zelaya as seen in manifestations today and how many people support the new government!! Lets Hope everyone is watching.

Video – Krauthammer: “Obama, Here’s a Rule of Thumb for You”

Citing that the President often falls on the wrong side of these big decisions, CK believes the President needs a little extra help in making his decisions. Here’s a quote from the video:

Look, a rule of thumb here is whenever you find yourself on the side of Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega and the Castro twins, you ought to reexamine your assumptions.

Obama: The Voice of Democracy?

I’m finding it harder and harder to swallow the rhetoric from Obama that he supports democracy.  Take the coup in Honduras today as an example.  First here’s how it went down:

In a nutshell, Zelaya wanted another term as president so he decided to hold a popular referendum on whether he should be eligible. Minor problem: The Honduran constitution can’t be amended by popular referendum so the country’s supreme court ordered the vote canceled. Zelaya tried to go ahead with it anyway. Literally every other arm of the Honduran government — judiciary, legislature, military — was against him, to the point where the troops who arrested him this morning were evidently acting on a court order. Why such strong, unified opposition? According to one retired Honduran general cited by Fausta, it’s because Zelaya’s a Chavez stooge and him staying on would mean “Chavez would eventually be running Honduras by proxy.”

Obama was quick to come out against this, even before it happened:

Reaction to the apparent coup was swift. U.S. President Barack Obama said he was “deeply concerned” and called on all political actors in Honduras to “respect democratic norms, the rule of law and the tenets of the Inter-American Democratic Charter. Any existing tensions and disputes must be resolved peacefully through dialogue free from any outside interference,” he said.

The Obama administration worked in recent days to prevent President Zelaya’s ouster, a senior U.S. official said. The State Department, in particular, communicated to Honduran officials on the ground that President Obama wouldn’t support any non-democratic transfer of power in the Central American country.

“We had some indication” that a move against Mr. Zelaya was a foot, said a U.S. official briefed on the diplomacy. “We made it clear it was something we didn’t support.”

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton joined Mr. Obama Sunday in criticizing the Honduran coup and calling for the restoration of the democratic process.

“We call on all parties in Honduras to respect the constitutional order and the rule of law, to reaffirm their democratic vocation, and to commit themselves to resolve political disputes peacefully and through dialogue,” Mrs. Clinton said in a statement.

So instead of standing up for democracy, Obama supported President Zalaya who was trying to thwart the constitution illegally.  Instead of standing up for the rule of law he is vowing not to support the new shift in power even though it was backed by the Honduran Supreme court and their legislature.  This is simply mind boggling…or is it?

When the Iranian regime began oppressing their people after they rigged their elections, Obama was quick not to criticize the regime citing that we didn’t have any evidence that their elections were based on fraud.  This defied common sense because there was no way that they could count all the paper ballots in the hour or 2 after the election especially with an unprecedented turnout to the polls.  Even the Iranian people knew this as they were dying in the streets in protest. And when Obama finally did criticize the regime, he still wouldn’t enumerate actual consequences of the regime’s oppressive tactics.  Very non-Reaganesque.

And he was still willing to eat hot dogs with the Iranian diplomats until the administration got enough pressure to cancel the invitations.

And let’s not forget the bow to the Saudi King.

And that chummy picture with Chavez which now makes one ponder whether Obama was in cahoots with Chavez to keep Zalaya in power.

All this is adding up to a president who does not support democracy despite his claims.

Video: End of Boehner’s Speech – A Valiant Attempt on Climate Change

John Boehner tried to stop this excessive carbon taxing climate change bill.  His efforts were unsuccessful, and it appears that it was the GOP that failed. At least 8 GOP voted in favor of the bill on a close vote of 219-212.

Still, his speech certainly gained my respect.  Here is how it ended:

Chris Matthews has ‘Sanford Derangement Syndrome’

I admit that I don’t tune in to Chris Matthews at 7pm very often, but I thought I’d see what he was saying about Sanford since that’s the ‘big news’ of the day.  Little did I know that I would not learn much about anything else.

I’m used to FNC – or Shep Smith at 7pm.  He always covers a variety of topics, as he did today.  Below is a comparison of the topics that both Shep and Matthews covered today (I didn’t catch the first few minutes of Shep, so my apologies if I’ve missed something (like Iran)):

Shep Smith – 7pm Chris Matthews – 7pm
- N Korea - Gov Sanford
- Ambassador to Syria
- Baghdad Explosion
- Train Wreck
- Gov Sanford
- CitiGroup

You read that right.  From 7pm to 8pm Chris Matthews only talked about Sanford.  That’s it.  There was a small segment on republican candidates as it relates to 2012, as it relates to Sanford. I’m not saying the content was fair or unfair, but to spend a whole hour on one topic? I guess there’s no other news going on in the MSNBC world. It doesn’t surprise me that his ratings are horrible.  I checked my records for this month, and he has only broken 20% of the 7pm viewership once in total viewers.  Shep on the other hand hits 50% or better on a regular basis. I’m not even a huge fan of Shep, but I’d rather get the news at 7pm than to listen to Chris Matthews run a topic into the ground.
