***LIVE STREAM REMOVED***

Tonight at 9PM ET Republicans will take the stage in what should be a very interesting debate, given Newt’s big win in South Carolina. Now in Florida, the ‘final four’ will go at it and you can watch it right here. The live stream is below and the chatroom is open:

This is NBC, right? Do you suppose that they will forget to ask Newt anything?

The debate may well be like TRS’ polls, only this time they will leave out Newt. (Now I know there are good and worthy reasons why Paul is left off our polls, so don’t jump me. I saw the Drudge report poll where Paul won the SC primary. Guess I just missed something there)

      speaking time:

      Qs xtra TOT Minutes
      Romney 16 13 29 (37%) 1328 (33%)
      Gingrich 13 17 30 (38%) 1190 (30%)
      Santorum 9 2 11 (14%) 847 (21%)
      Paul 8 1 9 (11%) 611 (15%)

My question was facetious, toward NBC, not the candidates. But thanks for the math quiz. The answer is 7.

Hot damn! It’s too bad I’m tired LOL b/c I love a good fight. I’ll just listen to Rush give me the highlights tomorrow.

Romney is probably going to try to destroy Gingrich’s credibility based on services provided to the Macs and the ethics violations charges that were leveled against him.

Well now we know that Romney is not that innocent either:

    http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/01/23/409580/romney-fannie-freddie-profit/

And though the ethics violations charges were all dismissed to the last one, it will be interesting to hear them spar.

Ging destroys mittens tonight…mittens packs it in tomorrow

    • Anonymous

We can dream can’t we? Mittens has a huge warchest… he’ll run until it runs out (and likely suffer another failed presidential run in the process).

  • http://twitter.com/113KriEger 13Krieger

I wonder who is gonna tag who first? Who gets first blood?

Also, since Ron Paul is polling less than undecided according to the latest Rassmussen poll shouldn’t old nutbag just drop out? It’s pretty clear you have no message when undecided is beating you. lol

    • puma_for_life

He’s polling better than Santorum in Florida and is second to Mitt when it comes to beating Obama. Teh one who needs to drop out is the sanctimonious doughboy Santorum and the ethically challenged Gingrich. Neither of them is even on all 50 state ballots so there is no way either of them can get the nomination. Only Romney and Paul are on all ballots.

      • puma_for_life

Oh give me a break. I suppose you are a values voter; you know, someone who boos the golden rule and votes for an ethicallly and morally bankrupt snake.

        • puma_for_life

Above comment in wrong place and I can’t edit for some reason. sorry.

      • Anonymous

I’m not trying to pick a fight, but Ron Paul will not win the GOP nomination. He is NOT a Repubican and he has some chinks in his armor.

Santorum offers a viable alternative to Newt, Mittens, and Ron Paul… all of the candidates appeal to different people in different ways.

And please try not to be one of the typical rabid Ron Paul supporters and attack Rick in such an ugly fashion. If Santorum drops out of the race (most likely due to a lack of funds), then Newt benefits and Paul won’t pick up any of Rick’s votes.

        • puma_for_life

Oh, I see, but it is ok to refer to Paul as an old nutbag and portray him with a tinfoil hat; call his supporters crazy and deranged and portray them in other derogatory way. But, please, do not dare attack the other doughboys; that is just ugly. Puhleese…stop the hypocrisy.

          • Anonymous

You obviously have a chip on shoulder and have taken my words way out of context by reading them through your anger and frustration. Do you honestly think that Santorum is holding Ron Paul down in the polls? Is that the basis for why Paul supporters hate Santorum so passionately… and not Mittens or Newt?

Ron Paul will not win the GOP nomination… you really have to come to grips with that. He is a Libertarian who hates Repubicans (and they deserve contempt btw). A large percentage of the country doesn’t buy what he’s selling. He’s brilliant on 80% of things and horrible on 20%. He’s not resonating. And the Repubican establishment won’t embrace him and his aggresive vision or changes. Heck, the Repubican establishment hates conservatives too (especially the Tea Party).

As I said, I’m not trying to pick a fight with you. I’ve been respectful with you and tried to state my position coherently and objectively. If you don’t like what I’m writing, cool – speak out. But to lash out as you did, reinforces the stereotype I was pointing out. There’s no need for that…

            • Anonymous

You are not thinking soberly here. (Sorry for the play off your name) Think about what you have said….
“The Repubican (your spelling) establishment won’t embrace him and his aggresive (also your spelling) vision or changes.”
Isn’t that what the tea party wants? Someone who is not the status quo?

You say “he’s not resonating” – but you look at the dogmatic and “frantic” enthusiasm of his followers and say he is not resonating. He is resonating – with some. So now – the question is – why is he resonating with some and not others? What is causing this?

The difference between his supporters and his detractors is that they have read one of his books where his positions are carefully and cogently explained. Once you read them – a light goes off and – you wake up.

I was where you are at now – just a little over four years ago. Very conservative – very Rush Limbaugh – faithful Hannity & Colmes watcher. (I couldn’t listen to Levin – not because I didn’t like his content – just couldn’t stand his voice) I heard Paul’s speech in Iowa and my questioning began.

I strongly recommend you read his book “Liberty Defined”. It is very inexpensive and I promise you will change your mind – like I did.

Spend a few minutes watching this recording of Fox – and leaving out the bias of the person who put it together – ask yourself – how would I have taken this if I had watched this?

You can’t start asking questions till you ask the first one. Sometimes – it takes someone else to get you started – hopefully – I’m that person! :)

              • Anonymous

I currently support Santorum, although I’m not against Ron Paul either. My problem with RP is that he explains his foreign policy poorly. He comes off as one who is mocking external threats to this country and isn’t taking them seriously. I think a lot of his problems stem from there. Everyone loves his domestic ideas, surprising how someone else hasn’t subscribed to those yet either, IMO.

But his description of his FP is where he loses a lot of votes. I’m all for scaling down foreign spending especially foreign aid. RP needs to look at how he’s talking about bringing everyone (in the military) home from overseas and articulate that better without seeming like he’s mocking foreign threats.

Plus in this age of “I want it now” his explanations take too long where as others can be put into “soundbites”.

I hope he does well in the very least as to continue to expand the message of liberty and constitutionality and force those as a serious issues as Cain did with taxes. When Cain was in half the debates were about taxes and how people would change them now, it barely gets into any debates.

                • Anonymous

I agree with everything you are saying – especially his foreign policy. I wince when it he talks about it – because I know what his intent is (massing at home rather than abroad) but it doesn’t come across as that.
Ron Paul’s position on the tax thing is based on the moral principle that you are not owned by the government and they have no right to take your property. There are constitutional and moral ways of taxing and the IT is not one of them.

              • Anonymous

Thank you for your advice and the link, I will follow it up and it’s appreciated.

And you’re right, he’s resonating with his fans but I meant he’s not resonating with the masses overall.

There were points in Dr. Paul’s speech after S.C. where he said some great things. As I said, I stand firmly for most of what he says and stands for. I love and adhere to the tenants of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Federalist Papers. I love liberty and smaller, less intrusive government. I agree that we shouldn’t nation build and I’m all for the gold standard being reimplemented. I also support closing some bases overseas. As a retired USAF airman, I’ve seen that there is certainly waste in some locations. I could go on… I see eye-to-eye with him on many things.

But there are also many other things about Ron Paul that I’m not a fan of. I’m a fan of a strong, modern military (I served during the “deterrence” times of the USAF). I don’t like his positions on drugs, isolation, the border, Iran (in particular), war, he’s not an overt Christian, etc. I don’t want to debate these things… I just don’t like what he’s said over time on those subjects (though he does profess to be a Christian). And just like with all the candidates, there are the “likability intangibles” that affect my perception of him. He seems old and frail, grumpy, and many of his answers ramble on and touch multiple points.

I’ll look deeper beyond the exterior. We have to vet all candidates thoroughly. I’m a Christian (born-again, bible-believer). I’m Independent. I’m conservative. I’m retired USAF. All of these shape my views and choices. :)

And I coined a phrase from Mark Levin: Re-pubic-ans. I despise the demon-crats and really don’t like the repubicans anymore either.

                • Anonymous

Agree….I think if RP put his FP as simply as “stop all foreign aid and we need to take a serious look at our overstretched military and see where we can scale back bases and bring people home.” IF he said something to that effect I believe he would have more votes. I agree on the likability factor and on the Christian factor as well.

                • Anonymous

                  Cool… I think you’re right.

It’s funny, I’m really starting to respect him in terms of his constitutional stance, positions on our currency and the Fed(up), and a few other things. If nothing else, I hope the other candidates embrace many of those ideas.

                  Thanks for your response.

He should do the right thing an drop out but he won’t. We wants to make more money off of his sheeple before he does drop out.

        • puma_for_life

I don’t think you understand. He is polling better than Santorum in Fl and better than gingrich or sanatorum against Obama. He has his name on all 50 ballots; gingrich and santorum do not. If anyone should drop out is is those two…they are stringing their supporters on and not being honest.

          • Anonymous

The MadAmericanMom has no answer for this?

Think about it – over 500 delegates – unattainable by ging and santy. No one brings this up. It’s a huge issue. And every time the Romulan doesn’t win – Paul’s chances increase. There’s going to be some rude awakenings when we get to LA, NV, OK and especially CA.

          • http://twitter.com/113KriEger 13Krieger

No he is not! Ron Paul has 8% and undecided has 9%. You have your RonPaulBot glasses on too tight. Also, I got news for you….Ron Paul will not win the GOP nomination, period! Conservatives would rather sit out the election than have an isolationistic appeaser like Ron Paul as President. Why? Because he will lay the ground work for the next world war by showing worse weakness than the Obamanation in the white house. That is why!

            • puma_for_life

Conservatives, if that what you want to call them, always find a reason not to vote. They didn’t vote last time because McCain was too liberal; they won’t vote this time for Paul because he is too conservative. You guys just like to lose and complain about it and then blame someone else for everything that is wrong with the country. You think Gingrich is conservative? You have your pretend conservative glasses on too tight; he is very big government ethically challenged liar and I predict if he should become potus (heaven forbid) he will either be impeached or forced out of office on etlhics issues because he is totally immoral.

    • cabensg

If the only thing you knew about Paul was what you’ve seen in the last two debates he doesn’t come off to bad. It’s only when you get the whole picture things start to look flaky. I certainly don’t want him for president but I see no reason to disparage him representing his state. At least he isn’t some idiot liberal like the ones we’ve seen in video clips. Some of them make you wonder how they even find their way home let alone hold elective office.

      • http://twitter.com/113KriEger 13Krieger

You are right…he’s worse when it comes to foreign policy. Ron Paul is too busy living in a dream world in his head because he things if the USA can have policies like Neville Chamberland all will be ok. NOT!

        Ron Paul is a loonie!

Why would investing in a tradable stock be any different for Mitt than it is for me. I have many investments myself, and Mitt makes his income off investments.

The possibility that Bain Capital gutted companies from Corporate raiding, however, could be a different story. We won’t know till we see the books. I will hold my judgement till then.

          • Anonymous

I don’t know the details, whether Mitt is even aware of investments in these agencies. But, ostensibly, it reminds one of Michael Moore’s investments in Haliburton.

            • Anonymous

              But Mitt’s not as handsome.

          • Anonymous

To your first point and question. The problem is Mittens has made it a point that doing business with Fannie and Freddie is a disqualifying factor. So he’s being a hypocrite (big surprise).

            • Anonymous

Well, yes. I have to agree that he’s a hypocrite, but doing business with them and buying stocks are two different things. They don’t quite relate. I wouldn’t call him a hypocrite on that point alone.

Watch out Newt you’ll be getting it from the left (Mittens) and right (Santorum).

Newt can KO both by attacking the establishment GOP which Santorum was part that doubled the debt and grew the size and scope of government since chasing him out… which left Republican unelectable in 06 and 08 resulting in Pelosi, Reid, Obama another 5 trillion and Obamacare.

    • StNikao

I hope he will forget about Romney, Santorum and Paul, and focus on his good ideas and put down Obama.

    • Anonymous

I am no Santorum or Romney supporter, by any stretch, but Newt had best be careful how he plays the “anti-establishment” card, especially after his over-the-top support of Medicare Prescription Drugs during the debate. Was he pandering to Florida seniors, maybe?

In any case, he has way too much big-government baggage (Dept of Education, Lautenberg Gun Ban, federal land grabs, and more) to play the anti-establishment candidate. Besides, he is only now recovering from his anti-capitalism rant against Romney. The only thing that saved him from that media disaster in South Carolina was knocking CNN and ABC off their self-proclaimed pedestals during the debate.

In summary, Newt cannot hide his voting record, and the other candidates will play the “hypocrite” card if he gives them an opening. He is strongest when he goes after the media, Obama and the democrat party.

  • Anonymous

Watch for Rick and Mitt to sink to new lows in smear politics.

    • Anonymous

Santorum has been the cleanest running candidate of all the remaining candidates. His attacks during debates have been valid and above the belt…

Mittens on the other hand… man, it’s gonna get messy.

      • Anonymous

So, you thought Rick looked good on last week’s televised debate, dripping with disdain for Newt, talking about “his lack of discipline, an idea a minute, etc., etc.”? All in his typical grimacing manner? Rick has run to the last refuge of debaters – ad hominem attacks.

      • Anonymous

Whereas Newt has and even does at this point push to not go after each other but to go after Uh uh Oh Bummer.

      • Anonymous

Actually – he flat out lied about Ron Paul on the Right to Life rating. He’s rated 100%. Please see:
        http://www.votesmart.org/candidate/evaluations/296/ron-paul
        Abortion stance:

This was not above the belt.

The only times they rate him lower is when he votes against laws at a federal level on abortion. He feels that the greater likelihood of getting rid of it is to put it back on the books on all 50 states – just like it was before RvW when the SC centralized all that power with one ruling.

Suporting evidence: Ron Paul does better than Santorum or Gingrich against Obama.

    http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/ron-paul-more-electable-newt-gingrich/331076

Of all the Republican candidates, Mitt Romney routinely does the best against President Obama in a hypothetical general election match-up. But who does second best?

Not the current front-runner, Newt Gingrich, who has the worst unfavorables of any Republican still in the race. Turns out Ron Paul is the Republicans best hope should primary voters reject Romney.

Treasury Secretary doesn’t really have any substantial power. I can’t see RP being Treasury Sec. for any of the other guys on stage. He needs to be Fed Chairman but that will never happen in a thousand years.

          • Anonymous

can’t be fed chairman as the fed will go away

            • Anonymous

The Fed needs to go away, but in an orderly fashion. It will likely go away in a chaotic fashion though, when the fiat currency standard fails.

      • Anonymous

It will never happen before the dollar fails. When it does, the fed won’t have any power anymore. They will essentially be out of business. The Fed will end, just not before it is too late. These banks literally control the world. Our politicians know this, and will never cut out their influence. They know that the currency will crash. That is the plan. When it does, the central banks and world government will create a new world reserve, controlled by the IMF. We will be their slaves.

Paul won’t take the job, because he knows that they won’t let him do what he would want to. They won’t offer it, because they don’t want to destroy their cash cow. Without the Fed, the federal government becomes powerless.

I don’t like Paul’s foreign policies. That’s a biggie. Other than that, I think he has some domestic policies he could re-think. But his economic ideas are good.

I don’t believe I’ve ever done any name-calling to you (other than a possible Paulbot here and there, which would be well deserved). If I have been harsh with you, it would only stem from responding to something you may have said out of left field, not from my own initiating of name-calling.

Please let me know where I’ve done that, and if appropriate, I will apologize. But don’t give the impression to people on this site that I’m a name-caller. Thanks.

I would definitely say you have grown and begun to traverse more – as have I (concerning Paul on the Israel issue.)
I think the main thing that we all miss on this site is the real problem causing our arguing and that is we don’t trust ANYONE. We’ve all been lied to so many times by the media and the gv.

            • Anonymous

Just to let you know, I didn’t apologize. I said that if I had said anything inappropriate, I would apologize. I don’t believe that’s the case.

I get combative if someone is speaking inappropriately, so perhaps you need to review your own statements. That being said, I do research. Trust is an earned comodity. I know how the LSM twists things and then there are people who just parrot what’s been said. It’s good that we all do our own research, as ‘the truth will set us free’.

I think this blockade of Cuba is stupid. I agree with Paul. If we just started trading with them, build a few Macdonad’s and sell coca cola, there would be a revolution quickly because people all want what we have once they get a taste of it.

      • Anonymous

Canada trades freely with Cuba. We should as well. Ron Paul is right.

        • Linky1

That was done by the Canadian Communist Castro-loving Prime-Minister Pierre Trudeau. All Canadians care about are the cheap vacations to Cuba, forgetting what life is like down there for the locals.

Personally, I will NEVER set foot on Cuban soil as long as it is a Communist dictatorship. Let the Michael Moore’s of the world, ones whi love COmmunism and their health care brag all they want, until Cuba is free, this is one Canadian who will never set foot down there.

          • Anonymous

If Castro dies, there could be a chance to have change in Cuba. If the US opens negotiations and starts talking trade, we might be able to negotiate a trade agreement that favors the people. Otherwise we might end up doing as Newt, Gingrich, and Santorum want to do: Use force, either covertly or overtly to install a new government, or at least take out the current one. Then, maybe the people in Cuba can have the same kind of change that Libya and Egypt have.

            • Anonymous

The people have to be good (morally) and want freedom. The only thing you can accomplish what you are talking about is to install a dictator that is friendly towards the US like we’ve been doing since 53. As you can tell – this eventually ends in failure and the result after is a government that is anti-American.

              • Anonymous

That was kind of my point when I mentioned Libya and Egypt. The Muslim Brotherhood is only friends with our CIA, not America. The Cubans wouldn’t get anything good out of that scenario.

We do trade with China, and they literally have slave labor factories. Americans love the products made from 12 year old slave girls. Why not have the children in Cuba rolling our cigars? They might get more food in the end.

We can’t take them out without ticking of a couple of other countries. So why not simply end the sanctions, and open trade? That might make it easier for us to keep an eye on them.

                • Anonymous

Excellent – this is what Paul has been talking about all along. He compares where Vietnam is with us now versus where we were when we were fighting with them.
If you are fighting – you lose all influence and actually strengthen the opposition. This is what he meant when he said we were propping up Castro by placing sanctions on them (Cuba.)

        • StNikao

CUBA’s Castro has devilish intentions and not good will toward the US – this is not because of anything we did, but because they adopted a communist dictatorship, then made buddies with Russia and invited a national threat – missiles – nukes. They are NOT our friends – but like Venezuela’s dictator, are chums with Islamic Hezbollah and other terrorists.

We had best watch Cuba, South and Central America very closely.

          • Anonymous

I so agree with you! The drug cartels have invited the jihadists in to help them in their tunnel work. After all, nobody does tunnels like the “palestinians”.

Unfortunately, the jihadists have their own plans. Have you noticed that more and more of the “lone wolf” type wanna-be terrorists have Spanish surnames? And the drug dealers are using classical terrorist methods to take out their opposition. Five years ago, how many times did you hear of beheadings in Mexico? Now they are becoming a weekly occurance. I am really afraid that Mexico is quickly becoming a failed state and a magnet for jihadis.

      • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

Many Cubans in Florida are all for sanctions.

        • puma_for_life

I know, that’s why the other candidates were all pandering to them. The cubans who originally fled here from Cuba were the moneyed class and they lost everything. The problem is that at this point whatever they lost, their property, is gone, done no more. They will never it get it back. Rather than continue pandering to these people, it would be better for them (because they could go back to visit if they wanted) to open relations and start trading. I believe that this would eventually lead to a freer, mor prosperous Cuba…which could only be positive for this country. I met a young man last year who was Cuban; he came to this country on some type of cultural exchange and ended up staying some how (maybe defected, dont know). But he said the same thing. The houses that these people lost were opened up and given to “the people”. Everyone got a room to live in but no one took care of it so the properties are decaying and falling down. The exiled Cubans would not even recognize their own property.

    • Anonymous

Yes!!!! You are asking question! Ok. Here is the answer:

Adversity strengthens the leader. Power coalesces and unifies behind those fighting the enemy. When the US placed sanctions on Cuba – it helped Castro actually helped solidify and actually rally the support he needed to replace the existing (and corrupt crony capitalist government) and bring in communism. Very much in the same fashion as Obama – where Trumka is his Che.

      • Anonymous

I don’t see communism as being where we end up. It seems like that is usually accomplished by conquest or overthrow. No, I think that we will move from our current socialist/fascist/crony capitalist state in to globalism. Globalists use all the other isms to gain control through the central banks. The banks ultimately shut down the countries, then global control takes over. The closes thing to globalism would probably be totalitarianism. When our currency collapse, we will get locked down into a totalitarian police state. We will finally have a dictator, and nobody will really care what ism it is called. Though people do like their isms.

        • Anonymous

We have 9 of the 10 planks of communism in place – here and now in our country and have had so since the 30′s. Most glaringly since the 60′s. Look them up – you’ll be amazed.

When did it start? Does it involve the Navy, the Army, both? Is there a No-Fly zone? Troops on the ground? Are we stopping Iran’s UPS trucks at some border crossing? What gives?

              • KenInMontana

A blockade is an act of war, sanctions are not.

                • puma_for_life

Sanctions are a direc attack on the people; it hurts the citizens. I would call that an act of war.

                • Anonymous

You don’t seem to understand the concept of sanctions at all. Sanctions are non-violent ways of influencing the actions and/or behavior of a country’s goverment, much like discipline. A sanction could be refusing to allow one country’s goods to be sold in a common market, or restricting the access of its citizens to other countries, or refusing to sell goods to a country. It’s not invading, bombing, firing missiles or engaging in military actions.

It’s simply shunning, on a grand scale.

                • Anonymous

What you are missing or discounting about sanctions is the devastating effect they have on the people of the country being sanctioned. You are trying to discipline the government but you punish the citizens.

                • puma_for_life

You don’t understand; economic sanctions hurt the people in the country. If they cannot trade they cannot make money they cannot eat they are forced into poverty. That is an act of war.

                • KenInMontana

                  You would be incorrect then.

                • Anonymous

Gingrich said, not to long ago, that sanctions were an act of war. I was quite surprised when he admitted it.

Gringrich was incorrect in that assessment.

Paulbots are out of touch with reality. It doesn’t matter what we did, you’d still hate your own country.

            • puma_for_life

So, if someone offers a different opinion and different options in foreign policy that means they hate their country? I don’t think you understand that the current war making policies have nothing to do with protecting our country and everything to do with war profiteering and the military industsrial complex.

              • KenInMontana

Have you ever read Eisenhower’s speech? I’ve noticed that Paul’s supporters bounce from one out of context quote to the next, you really should go back and read his speech instead of regurgitating that threadbare “military-industrial complex” meme. Eisenhower was warning against a government subsidized and dependent private sector, and he of all people acknowledged and was aware of just how important the defense industry is to our national defense capabilities.

                • puma_for_life

I’ve noticed how people who dislike Paul bounce from one out of context quote to the next; you really should read Ron Paul’s book “The Revolution, A Manifesto” . Paul makes a distinction between military spending and defense spending. And guess what, their currently is a subsidized and dependent private sector, called military contractors, who feed off of these undeclared wars. Further, preemptive war is immoral.

                • KenInMontana

If you noticed that about those who “dislike” Paul, perhaps his supporters should not post quotes and claim they mean something else than they originally did. As far as cutting a distinction between “military” and “defense” spending, that is simply a case a parsing words to create a issue, just who do you and Ron Paul think does the defending? The Cub Scouts? Which “undeclared” war are you speaking of ? Whether or not a “preemptive” war is moral or immoral is subjective, it depends a great deal on one’s perspective and the situation at hand.

                • puma_for_life

None of our wars since WW II gave be declared by congress per the constitution. And no, military and defense spending are not the same thing. The US embassy in Iraq which is bigger than the Vatican is military spending; defense spending is providing our troops with what they need (these are examples, not all inclusive).

A preemptive war is a war started before anyone has done anything; i.e., the Iraq war was a preemptive war and thus immoral.

                • puma_for_life

I can’t edit, I meant since WWII have been declared

                • KenInMontana

Actually every war since WW2 has been duly authorized by Congress. There is no magic formula hidden in the Constitution as to what form a declaration of war should take, no specified wording or format, the document only states that the power to commit our armed forces to combat rests with Congress. Which it has done.

            • Anonymous

Would that same thing apply to say, people coming from Iran, or Afghanistan, Syria or any other muslim nation? I can understand his point, and I know it’s a rare occurrance, but all I could think of when Newt said that was Ft. Hood. It would be easy for an enemy to infiltrate, whether they are from the middle east or from south America…

As far as Terri Shiavo, Her PARENTS BEGGED congress to do something. There was a LOT to this case, and the parents did not want to see their daughter put to death in a horrible and painful way. One thing I always found incredible, is that at the time of this case, where people were working on putting her to death by starvation and dehydration, yet, the Washington sniper who was in jail was on suicide watch and being FORCE fed because he tried to go on a hunger strike.

The ONLY good thing that came out of Terri’s case was that it made a national awareness about the need for a DNR.

I agreed with Santorum and Newt’s answer on this.

    • Linky1

Nice try with an ambush question of Santorum and Gingrich. It didn’t work, as both answered honestly, truthfully and from the heart. Loved Newt’s comparison with the extraordinary lengths gone to for death row inmates.

I watched his live tweets as well….he was right about Newt winning SC, but he was wrong that Santorum would get second in SC because of the last debate. He really doesn’t care who gets into the WH…just as long a Obama leaves…or that is what he said anyway.

      • Anonymous

Yeah, I actually like Dick Morris and follow his lunch videos. He’s just another perspective.

  • Anonymous

Good debate. Decent questions and I liked how NBC managed it overall. It sucked that they focused almost exclusively on Mittens and Newt… but when Santorum and Ron Paul had their say, I think they made the most of it. I still don’t agree with Ron Paul’s foreign policy but he hit some good points on the economy, the Constitution, and did well overall. Santorum also did very well imo. He seemed more confident, resolute, and his answers were pretty good. He also got a nice slap on Mittens and Newt in the end – further distinguishing himself. I still have him as my number 1.

Newt did well but I feel he got hurt a little by Mittens, who was overly ready to destroy Newt. Honestly, Romney’s attacks were unwelcome and annoying.

Overall, I’m glad everyone remained focused primarily on Maobama and his failed presidency. Thank you again Scoop for providing this link! God bless America!

Newt came out looking calm, competent, collegial and Presidential.

Romney looked scared and insecure not Presidential, but he would make a great bureaucracy downsizer to reduce the size of the government agencies.

Santorum was good on foreign policy and would make a good Attorney General, Sec. of Defense? or VP? but not Presidential – yet.

Ron Paul is always good in the area of money/economics, Sec. of Treasury or Commerce?

John Adams in a speech to the military in 1798 warned his fellow countrymen stating, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

There is no question about HOW to make the Constitution work for America but I don’t know that the hearts of the people truly want to get back to that foundation…I mean judging by the break down of the family and lack of family values in this country.

I think how Romney answered that question was pure and simple-he is a husband, dad first-he built a strong family first, then he is a businessman, etc. Ane when this is over, and if he doesn’t become President-he still goes back to his strong family, his successful business and living the American dream.

This country is nothing without family values first!

  • Anonymous

Wow. Newt actually looked embarrassed at one point. Romney had him speechless for a few seconds. Wow.

    • Anonymous

Actually, I was embarrassed for Romney. He reeks of desperation and flop sweat.

      • Anonymous

Romney was stuttering at times, but did you see the look on Newt’s face when Romney put him on the spot? He actually had silent air time when it came time to answer. It just surprised me. Romney didn’t add any substance to the debate. He just spouted off the talking points.

        • StNikao

Newt’s silence was a dramatic silence then he said something like: “I’m astounded that you are again attempting to float a false premise when I’ve refuted it over and over. I’m tired of wasting time on all this. I’ll put it all in writing on my website.”

          • Anonymous

He went directly to diversionary tactics. This is why he won’t win against Obama. I really dislike Romney, but I’m glad he did it.

            • Anonymous

He’ll win against O because he can be on the offense since he has such a horrid record.

              • Anonymous

Are you saying that he will never be on the defense? At least half of the statements and comments made will be about Newt’s past. Not to mention the ads that he can’t immediately refute while people are watching them in their living rooms. Obama’s family life can be put up as squeaky clean compared to Gingrich. I am not a Santorum fan, but he was right when he said that Obama is going to have $1B from the banksters to throw around.

Newt doesn’t get the independents, that is why Paul and Romney are on top against Obama nationally. Newt will never pull dems over like Paul does. Romney will have struggle with Obama talking about how his health care plan practically mimicked Mitt’s.

                • Anonymous

He’ll get the independents just like Reagan did. The establishment republicans always think you have to be moderate to win independents. Not true. That’s why Doles and McCains always lose.

                • Anonymous

He may get the independents that actually believe that he is conservative, but many independents are just looking for a real change candidate. Many are tired of wars. Independents are independents because the republicans aren’t conservative enough, and the democrats don’t stop wars.

So glad the audience was not able to skew the debate. It’s ridiculous that anywhere from 5 to a few hundred people can affect a debate that is being watched by millions. Let the viewers decide who made the best points without interference.

    • Anonymous

They should have the candidates behind a sound proof wall, and no mics to the audience. Then they should only put subjects up for discussion, and let it play out between the four. If they only cover two subjects per debate, so be it. You would then see the real candidates, and you would get real information. Romney wouldn’t be able to turn the debate into a huge talking point commercial. Let them cut each other off, and act however they want, rather than having bunch of rules and a moderator controlling who gets what question.

Did you notice how the media predicted what would happen between Mitt and Newt. Did you notice that the questions were designed to make it happen? Did you notice the commentators after words talking about how they called it and what they expected happened?

From what I understand, if Romney wins the presidency, they will have contracts with several different worlds. Apparently, the establishment are rogue aliens that are just here to use our resources for developing technology, and then selling it to the highest bidder off world. They need humans for slave labor, and that is where communism comes in. They took over China first, and have a really good labor program going. They started the Federal Reserve to collapse the system and get Americans to quit consuming. This has taken much longer than they expected, but they were actually able to quicken the collapse by starting war after war. They figure that Iran should finish us off. Then the weak will die off, and the Mexicans will replace Americans as their labor force.

me thinks that there’s something stinky in those tax returns. if he hasn’t tithed 10% on gross income, his morman buddies will be pounding at his door

  • Anonymous

Newt took a lot of abuse and looked hapless and embarrassed. You don’t say go to newt.org tomorrow and read my response when you are in the middle of a debate. I think this debate hurt him.

    • Anonymous

He probably decided before the debate that he would not get drawn in and be put on the defensive for the whole thing.

    • Anonymous

don’t think so…just not rising to the bait

  • Anonymous

Wow, I just looked at the Drudge and the headlines were ‘No standing Ovation’. Didn’t Williams tell the audience not to respond to the answers?

    • Anonymous

I was assuming so. There was clapping a couple of times for Paul, but it was pretty mild. The rest of the debate was silence, except before going to breaks.

    • Anonymous

Yes. No responses were allowed by the audience in this one. Guess NBC was told not to allow ANY positive responses to any of the candidates, IMO. Only debate I’ve seen where the audience was not allowed to respond to the answers.

    • StNikao

Typical Drudge ploy to steal glory from Newt.

I love it. I will send that to Ron Paul’s campaign.

    • StNikao

Guess that makes Santorum a bald faced public on-the-air liar.

  • Anonymous

Heck, I’m going back to reading my Brad Thor book
Scot Harvath for President! He’s the only one who can save us now.

    • Anonymous

Good book? I haven’t read Thor yet.

It’s amazing to hear romney tell us tonight that he was ALWAYS governing as a conservative during his time in MA when all of us can watch romney in his own words right here! Watch how romney almost cries for how proud and “courageous” his Mom and he have been to be proabortion even while they were running in prolife districts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_w9pquznG4&feature=player_embedded

  • Anonymous

even fat head ed is laughing at romney

  • Anonymous

romney attacked part d in florida. is he nuts??

  • Anonymous

I think the weak point for Newt was the Freddie Mac exchange. Mittens kept coming at him like a little pomeranian yap, yap, yapping at his ankle and he stumbled a bit.
He is going to have to answer to the Freddie Mac questions better than that.

So far, i’m not satisfied with his answers, and I don’t think he did anything wrong.

  • Anonymous

MSNBC just shredding Romney right now.

  • Anonymous

Would it be uncouth if, every time Newt agreed with Mitt, he said, “You’re preaching to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.” ?

  • Mary Beth House

What an awful debate. The format sucked.

If I were to pick a winner, I’d say Santorum. But the debate was so horrible…I wonder who stuck around for the whole thing besides political junkies.

It may slow Newt’s momentum…but I frankly doubt it.

    • Anonymous

I prefer a variety show format. They should bring in the cast from Hee-Haw to sing songs between segments.

      • Anonymous

I think the next one should be the Gong Show. Chuck Berris could get up and dance while the shepard’s hook hauls a candidate away.

        • Anonymous

And if gets really boring, bring on Gene Gene the Dancing Machine!

  • Anonymous

I thought this was brilliant on Newt’s part. He establishes that he’s a pit bull in previous debates, and of course there is criticism that he can’t control himself, etc., which is nonsense as we all know. Meanwhile, Romney looks like a wuss. So his advisors tell him he has to be a pit bull at the next debate, and Newt decides to act very calm and presidential in response. Did you hear Andrea Mitchell and the others referring to him as presidential afterward? So now he’s established that he CAN be both a pitbull and presidential all at the same time, and Romney looks like he has no idea what to do or how to act. Romney seemed a little desperate to take Newt down, and Newt just calmly stood there and acted presidential. I thought it was great, but I do admit, I am biased toward Newt.

And is it just me, or did Romney look pale and tired tonight?

    • Anonymous

No offense, but I think that you may have rose colored glasses on for Newt.

      • Anonymous

I admitted that, but Andrea Mitchell and the other liberal — Todd? can’t think of his name — both called him presidential, so I guess they had theirs on too. :-)

    • Anonymous

      Romney really IS a wuss isn’t he….

      • Anonymous

        He’s pampered.

  • Persephone

NBC censors the audience, tells them to shut up and just sit there…and they do?
    What a bunch of sheep.
Were there electric shock outlets in the seats, that would shock them if they clapped or cheered?
    I don’t get it.

    Worst debate ever.

    • Linky1

The ABC (All Barack Channel) was trying to stifle the momentum gained by Gingrich in the last 2 debates, plus the SC primary. Who knows- maybe Pelosi, Reid and Wasserman Schultz picked the audience. Heck, even the Paulbots were quiet!

Judging by the latest Florida poll, Newt is kicking Romney butt soundly.

    • Anonymous

Sorry, they didn’t get to interfere this time around. Newt was clueless without his little monsters.

    • Anonymous

People clapped for Paul a couple of times.

  • Anonymous

Kind of funny that Romney looks like Ken doll and Newt has Barbie doll looking wife.
Mittens tonight came off as angry ex-boyfriend whose girlfriend dumped him for the popular guy. LOLz!

    • StNikao

That’s just what Miss Carolina did! ;8->

  • Anonymous

Romney definitely won the debate. I don’t see how voters can ignore the fact that Newt was a lobbyist for a monstrous government entity that helped destroy the American economy.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4UX5IMCQLMMNCCKQUWML6KN6NA Mark

That’s the lie. Romney can’t win with lies and he did not win the debate.

    • Anonymous

He has lots of supporters in the street as well.

    • StNikao

IT was the POLITICIANS – Clinton, Bush, Barney Frank and the rest of Congress both Democrat and Republican who wanted Fanny/Freddy to go unregulated that caused the collapse. They wanted lots of people to have houses – so they could brag about the statistics. THEY let the crooks cook the books.

No one would listen to Newt or any of the Conservatives about regulations or auditing them!

You cannot blame Fannie/Freddie on Newt or the Conservatives.

      • Anonymous

Bush ran as a conservative, which, by the way, is one of the reasons I don’t vote labels. Too many fake conservatives out there.

        • Anonymous

I agree, and that’s why I vote based on their records (voting record if applicable). When I do that, it becomes obvious that only one of the four remaining candidates resembles a conservative, and his first name doesn’t have four letters.

          • Anonymous

Ron Paul is obviously the most conservative, but I’ve been supporting Romney because they have similar beliefs on free enterprise, and the electability issue. It’s very telling that Paul never criticizes Romney. It’s because they share the same free enterprise beliefs.

    • StNikao

Newt won – he answered every question thoughtfully. He was calm, competent, collegial and Presidential.

Romney looked scared and insecure, uneasy, unprepared.

      • Anonymous

Newt lost, that’s why he’s complaining today. No partisans to boo Romney and he needed them last night.

    • Anonymous

What do you say about Romney having stock in Freddie and Fanny then?

      • Anonymous

Blind trust, he has no input into where the money goes.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4UX5IMCQLMMNCCKQUWML6KN6NA Mark

After the debate, Newt’s team sent an email to reporters titled “Mitt Romney’s Top Conservative Achievements.”

    The email was blank.

Phew… that was a snoozer but I forced myself to stay awake. Romney failed, his whole purpose was to get Newt to explode or yell, thus prove he’s ‘erratic’ etc. I lauged when Romney complained he was attacked in South Carolina, aw poor baby. Maybe if he didn’t unload millions and millions in garbage ads against Newt in Iowa… geez.
Andrea mitchell dropped a little bombshell at the end, she said Romney’s tax returns will show his investments include FANNIE and FREDDIE and he made hundreds of thousands (or more?) off those investments. whoops. A little bit hypocritical.
Newt won by keeping toned down for this one. The key moment, was when he paused a few seconds, he was supposed to yell or be all outraged, instead he bit his tongue and answered calmly. I guarantee you Romney advisors were cursing at that, that was the whole goal of this debate and Newt didn’t take the bait.
So he didn’t knock Newt down and he did nothing to shine, Romney is still going down.
Also interesting to see Ron paul and Newt breaking a little ice there… hmmm. Then Santorum, I think people say “who’s that guy… and why is he there?”

  • Anonymous

Oh and yes, Brian williams is an absolute bore. Ironically I think Chris Matthews or some lib nut would make a much better ‘moderator’ by comparison. At least it would have been lively, and I like when Newt yells … :-P

BTW, Romney really is the dirtiest campaigner the Republicans have. He’s like the old cliche; “so when did you stop beating your wife?” Only he uses the line ‘influence peddling’/lobbying. That little move to send a cake to Newt in South Carolina to commemerate his ‘ethics’ charges was classless and says a lot about Mitt’s personality, which is nasty.
I wonder if Newts critics will attack Mitt for using the ‘weapons of the left’ when he attacks Newt on the 84 ethics charges from Bonior/Pelosi etc , which were pure crap, all dismissed. Same as they did to Palin.

  • Anonymous

Time for Paul and Rick to exit, they frankly have no viable path to victory. Mitt is looking desperate, I think the realization that he has wasted 6 years and tens of millions of dollars is starting to sink in. He wants to be the leader of the free world so badly and its slipping away. I think he will need to be placed on suicide watch next week when he losses Florida and with it any possibility of the nomination. Newt baggage and all is going to be the nominee as of today. Unless Mitt and Rick can manufacture some convincing photos of him on the golf course with Obama or in bed with Satan I think we have our nominee. Batten down the hatches folks its going to be a bumpy ride. Let’s just hope we can survive Obamagedon and keep the house, take the senate while electing the first third wife and confirmed “other woman” first lady in history. Not asking for much right…..

    • Anonymous

so sad and yet so true, I really thought we would have better choices this election.

  • StNikao

Newt won – he answered every question well, thoughtfully, factually, historically, intelligently. He was head and shoulders above the others. He was calm, competent, collegial and Presidential.

  • StNikao

Santorum was caught lying onstage. He said he didn’t support individual healthcare mandates – he forgot this:
    http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/01/09/401038/santorum-supported-individual-health-insurance-mandate-in-1994-republican-primary/?mobile=nc

    Better rethink that one, Rick.

    NEWT won by a mile.

  • Anonymous

I see that the debate over who won last night still rages this morning. That had to be the most boring debate I’ve ever seen.
As to who won, I’d have to say that anyone who switched channels or turned the tv off won. All the salient points will be discussed in detail on the various news shows anyway.
Wonder what the ratings were at the beginning and end of that debate.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_7YZKRU6ALJJRZNT7FAR6UU6FGI Tim N

Is anyone else tired of Mittens spinning the answer to a question around to talking points?

  • StNikao

American Thinker is skewering NEWT this morning – http://www.americanthinker.com/
    Titles:
    “Newt Gingrich Is Shameless”
    “He’s No Damn Good”
“One more sign that Obama is helping Gingrich”

Last Night TownHall’s headline claimed the candidates were all losers.

    WHY?

  • Trust1TG

Newt on silencing the audience in the debate last night: The media have no right to silence free speech and expression.

That’s what I said last night. I should be ashamed of myself for walking away halfway through, but I’m not. I’ll watch the highlights this morning, now that I’ve gotten some good sleep. But, it just seemed a waste of time. I think one point in the debate did bring out a weak point in Newt’s armor (the freddie mac issue). I don’t think he successfully addressed the issue, and he must before the general election.

    • Anonymous

One issue? lol. He was getting paid as a health insurance lobbyist as well. It was one thing after another. Why in the world are we making a lobbyist our president?

  • Anonymous

I’m sure NBC hand picked the audience, save a few gatecrashers, much like the O does in his townhall meetings and speeches. Pretty sad, if you ask me. I like what Newt said about having a day at Disneyland himself. Let anybody in and address the compitition headon.

Romney had an epic fail in the debate. The most defining moment of the entire debate was the last question. Each candidate was asked what he has done to further the Conservative cause.

    Romney answers:

I have children….so does Obama, Pelosi, Reid
I have a business….so does Buffet, Soros, Gates
I was Governor of Mass….Romney Care, tax hikes, funded abortions

    WHAT!

The question that goes to the very core of your Conservative values, and Romney leaves the voters with this disastrous answer.

Romney just proved that he is a moderate and a Progressive and should not even be considered the nominee for the Republican party!

  • Anonymous

Romney cut Newt to pieces with one hit after another. Newt just stood there like a totem pole, not knowing what to say, pleading with the crowd to stop the onslaught. Sorry Newt, this time you were all on your own. He seemed so small without the crowd. Reminds of one of them old westerns where the bad guy shrinks away when the mob goes silent.
