ABC News leads with SCORCHING heat, NBC calls contempt vote ‘caustic partisan fight’

I bought a TiVo last week so I am now able to record all the nightly news programs simultaneously and I did that for the first time tonight in order to see how they’d lead off on their shows given the contempt vote today.

First I checked ABC News and I kid you not, soaring temperatures around the nation was more important than the contempt vote of Eric Holder by the Oversight and Reform committee today. Here’s a small clip from the start of their show:

Next I checked NBC Nightly News and found that they had their priorities straight and started with the contempt vote, except Brian Williams labeled it a “caustic partisan fight” and went on to say it just looks like “more of our broken politics”. Unbelievable!

CBS News didn’t start with the contempt vote but did start with an important story on a worsening economy, something that I can’t hate them for. Then they switched to states having difficulty paying the pensions of public sector employees before finally covering the contempt vote. But here again I am a little torn because they not only covered the contempt vote but they took the time to remind people about Fast and Furious, a story that their own reporter Sheryl Atkinson broke. All in all they spent 5 whole minutes on Fast and Furious out of their 20 min time slot. Not bad.
