There was a theme that seemed to come from the democrats today, and it’s got me thinking that this is more strategy than anything else:
It was actually the Clyburn segment that got me thinking about it. Listen to how he framed the it to make it seem like there’s been agreement all along and the Republicans finally got their head out of their talking points to realize it. And then there’s that really over the top, almost exuberant show that Max Baucus put on today. You can’t convince me that was real…not after the year we’ve had.
Ok, so here’s my prediction: that the Democrats will throw a few Republican ideas in the bill, perhaps not exactly as the Republicans would want, and then claim that despite their compromise on the agreements, the Republicans are just saying no to the compromise to make this Obama’s waterloo. After all, there are elections coming up this year and they need to do everything in their power to make the Republicans look as bad as they can.
