I’m losing respect for Rep. West. Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry quickly!
But then again, if he gets primaried next year, the Dems would probably throw the race card at them, so we can’t win regardless.

Then you toss away any respect you have for yourself.

Are you also unable to fathom how chess games are played, thinking several moves ahead? Surely you don’t think West is satisfied to leave things where they are. He made it clear that the only reason why he went along with Boehner’s proposal was that it afforded opportunities in succeeding moves to obtain what we ultimately want.

I might be a libertarian mostly, but I don’t mind this. Repubs only control 1/3 of the government and still have a huge say about what is going on. This mess took a long time to build and it aint going away with one vote, and it aint going away with Obama in the white house and dems controlling the senate. Get what we can now, and really get down to business after the next election.

You’re assuming that the Republicans will win the Seante and Presidency. We call that in Sports, “underestimating your oponent.” This was a disappointing bill!

What did we get? Remember it is not the size of the pencil it is all about the person writing. Please do not discount the power we had. It was tremendous and we just had a few defectors like west. Go west young man, go west. He is done in my book. His word is not his bond. It does not take long to see the inside of a man when the pressure is on. He folded. He let the nation down, he agreed to let the military take a hit. I am so disappointed. The only person that can take the heat and fight back is Sarah Palin. She is tough as nails and please do not give me any liberal talking points to dispute this.
- KenInMontana
Actually he is FL22′s problem, so don’t send him or anyone else voting for this out west.

If only our whole nation could have such a “problem” in the White House, our nation would be blessed.
Allen West only creates problems for those who create problems.

Don’t forget Michelle Bachmann – she has been absolutely steadfast on this issue from day one and very vocal about it. And she is actually running for President right now.

I have to agree with you. These guys must see an opportunity to lay this at the feet of the true culprits. I’m still hopeful.

It doesn’t matter that the GOP controls only the House. Of all branches of the fedgov, THAT is the most important thing for a political Party that SAYS it believes in fiscal sanity to be in control of.
I say this ‘cuz the Constitution requires that ALL spending bills originate in the House. Therefore, if the House doesn’t bring up a certain spending bill, there is nothing that the Senate nor the POTUS can do about it — the $ won’t be allocated, so the program will wither on the vine until the next Congress takes over.
IF the House GOP had any guts or principle, they could end ALL unconstitutional federal spending & programs w/ the snap of a finger…by simply NOT bringing it up to be voted on! It’s very simple.
- Anonymous
Jim you’re exactly right. West knows the tactics of war on the battlefield as well as in congress. This was an important battle, but conservative Republicans need more ‘troops’ in 2012 before they can gain significant ground and turn things around. West knows that you have to be patient and gain as much ground as is possible when the other side controls 2/3 of the government. He knows that the big victory will come in time. You can’t change Washington overnight.
Standing on principles is great and the Tea Party should feel good that they have changed the focus in Washington to the degree that they have. However, who would have won this battle if everyone had stood so rigidly firm for that unattainable goal of 100% of their ideals and won nothing in the end? The progressives would have added taxes and raised the debt ceiling with no spending cuts at all; and continued on with business as usual in Washington. Our country’s economy would be in even worse shape than it is now and that much closer to default.
During this process, Obama and the Dems showed their true stripes to the American people. No plans to cut spending, increase taxes and tax again for good measure, would not even consider a balanced budget and the Republicans showed their plan of a balanced budget, cut spending, no new taxes, much closer to what Americans want to see happen.
It really does no one from the Tea Party any good to turn on someone who is working very hard to change things in DC. He is a good principled man who is straightforward with the American people and not afraid to call out Obama and the Democrats, or the Republicans for that matter. He is not a sellout or a defector.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion on West’s stance on this, but take a step back and don’t be so quick to pull the trigger to take him out. If the person they pick for a replacement candidate isn’t as strong as West is, then the Dems could very well take back the seat they lost in 2010 in the liberal majority district he is from. Is that progress? Do you think people like Allen West grow on trees easy for the picking? They do not. They come along very infrequently.

You need to acquaint yourself better with Allen West, and how the game of chess is played, to understand that West is thinking several moves ahead, by going along with Boehner’s proposal now, in order to open up windows of opportunity thereafter to get exactly what we want. Don’t underestimate the guy. He’s FOR REAL Conservative. Not a fake like Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Chris Christie and many others.

He’s pragmatic, not a RINO. I’ll still support him until the day he sits on BO’s lap and calls him his long lost mama….This man’s service, imo, warrants a whole lot of slack.

So this was a good deal in giving Obama a 2 year extension in the debt limit? The largest increase in the debt limit in U.S. history in return for unenforceable cuts? And according to West there are already tax hikes, accepted in this framework and this was not even negotiated? What? And he’s voting for this and worst, giving the GOP cover from the Tea Party Movement? Is this what we thought we would get from Allen West sending him to Congress?
The only good thing I see in this bill is that it will lead to a downgrade in the U.S. credit rating and that hopefully will force Congress to pass a balanced budget amendment. If not, then it will almost certainly mean the end of the Obama presidency. But everyone knows Boehner didn’t fight for #cutcapbalance and for these guys to declare victory, it just doesn’t cut it. It smacks more of a moral victory than any real tangible victory.
We just need better leadership in the GOP and we expected that from Allen West. Apparently, we will have to wait and hope that such strong leadership comes out of the GOP presidential field, because its lacking in the leadership in Congress we have today.

Allen West – elected because of Tea Party support. Remember that next time around, folks. I always liked him… until now. Still like him personally, but he gets no more of my support going forward. Yea, listen, I have more respect for the dummies that voted for it the first time and voted for it this time.
The people who voted it first through the House and then voted this down did that second vote strictly with the idea of pleasing the base. When they passed it the first time it was already doomed and made the second vote irrelevant. So, yea, I’m looking at people like Gohmert who voted the Boehner bill through on Friday and then voted no today. Not fooling me, Louie. You aren’t either Jeff Flake.
And obviously there is a host of others since this bill had more than twice as many Rs voting against it than when the first Boehner bill passed. So, to you people who decided to suddenly have a change of heart once it was too late, screw you.

Is anyone suspicious as to what Wests or other “tea party” members motivation is behind their words regarding this legislation? Words that are so much different now than they were when we believed they would NEVER cave in and help the gov’t enslave not only us, but our children to this massive, out-of-control deficit spending/borrowing/taxing. Words that had meaning then; which suddenly change to a teaching moment since us simpletons or hobbits just don’t grasp that this is a victory. Yes, surely in their hungry eyes, it’s a victory for gov’t and serfdom of its people. It is the death of this great land where freedom & liberty were something all of us were proud of, led our lives to achieve the best for our families and our country. Now, we have become their slaves and soon every con artist in gov’t will be so drunk with power they will get away with more and more pillaging until our Constitution is burning before our eyes to become a faded memory of a once great nation. The ruling class has a plan alright and us peasants will soon know what food rations and planned brown-outs are like as we watch our dollars become play money. A nudge here, a crisis there, and that super congress of 13 (6 D’s, 6 R’s and the dear leaders veto vote power) will finish the black hole of complete tyranny, it is treason. They all should be hung! My heart is heavy and my eyes weep for the loss that words cannot really place into the right context. You folks need to think more with your brains than your hearts. Even the aggressive deficit cutting plans like Ryan’s, or better yet Rand Paul’s, don’t cut spending much short term. They simply curve the trend line down. The fact is no budget will work long term without serious Medicare and SS reform. That was totally off the table, complete non-starter until conservatives control the White House and the Senate.
That understood a serious strategist can make a good case for this deal especially with the guaranteed votes on the Balanced Budget Amendment in both houses. The schedule built into this deal will keep this issue burning right into the election cycle. It’s understood that the socialists have cooked America like a frog by incremental change. Why don’t any of you see that strategy here working in our favor? That’s precisely what the colonel is alluding to.
LTC West’s character stands out because he embodies honor and loyalty. Odd that so many of his “admirers” here lack an understanding of how that works. I will trust his judgement because of what he’s done and who he is. I don’t expect I’ll be disappointed.
- Velvet
Here’s my bet – Col. West voted for this to get a guaranteed spot on the Super Congress. Which is the WORST part of this piece of expensive crap. I understand your rationale as I do his and I do not agree with either of you. A BIG bump in the road…
When Sarah Palin endorsed Sen. John Macain for reelection as Arizona Senator, I commented in various forums that it was a small bump in the road, and if she were to seek the Presidency and be elected, Sen. Mcain would be an ally.
It was a small bump, metaphorically, and my metaphorical coffee cup stayed in the cup holder in my car, and not a drop of coffee spilled out.
However, with Congressman West, his vote for the debt limit deal, thereby endorsing Speaker Bohener is a BIG. BIG, BIG bump in the road, and my metaphorical coffe cup popped out of the cup holder and all of the coffee spilled up and hit the windshield and has affected my vision.
Wow.
However, I would still endorse Rep. West Sec. of Defense someday, since Islamic jihad is going to be around for a long, long, long, long, long, long, ad infinitum time.

Ok, who is leading the revolt here? I think it should be put down immediately. Gonna throw the baby out with the bath water, are you? Did you really think you could get everything you wanted? The Repubs control one house and are divided. Some time you have to use your brain. What did the Dems not get? What did the Repubs not get? And what did each side get? More importantly, What did America get or not? Did we avoid a default? What are we gonna do next year? Boot the Dems out of the Senate and the WH, right? Then we can start getting the budget really right, cut the spending that needs to be cut, abolish departments that are not needed, etc. Now, who among others is leading us in that direction? Right! Congressman West. Mark my words. Don’t jump to foolish conclusions. Allen West is one smart hombre. While he will make a mistake on occasion, usually he will discern the right thing to do and do it. Don’t let your emotions blind you. You’ll be missing out on the best things available. We need leadership. We need Allen West. Believe me. And no, I’m not from the government. Just 69 years of observation, learning and accumulating wisdom after making my share of mistakes, but learning from them. Everyone calm down. Hang in there. Things are gonna get better.

We are living in an alternative Universe or something when Tea Party people have a huge win to celebrate, if only briefly, but instead choose to go after Colonel West?! West did nothing wrong, he did what was the right thing to do, but because some in the Tea Party didn’t get perfection, everyone is going to go along like Sheep?
I’m a registered Independent. Have been since 91′. And I am one of the very first Tea Partiers to climb aboard the train. I have supported the Tea Party with money, boots-on-the-ground, going to rallies, started a web based Tea Party News outlet, and have written to hundreds of politicians across the country to try and get them to do the right thing, signed every petition that came down the pike, and am responsible for convincing over 435 individuals to register to vote in the last 2 election cycles. However, If what I am reading continues, I will be forced to hang my head in shame for a movement I helped give birth to.
Do not destroy what so many have worked so hard for.

Allen West is a great man and a strong leader. As a follow Tea Party member I do agree with what he did. I support him whole heartedly and I have total faith in him. The Republicans only have the majority of 1/3 of the government. Remember people 2/3 are still in the Democrates hands. I believe what was done was still a major move for the Tea Party. So please don’t turn your backs on someone that is trying to help America. He is not a traitor. He is a loyal person. Stop acting like Democrats and trying to demonize a person at a blink of an eye. Allen West does deserve our support. He has done alot of great things and he will continue to try to bring America back on track again.

CynDur: I believe your comment was right on about West. Yes, you can, as Mark Levin has, disagree with his decision on this, yet still support him as Levin does. West’s decision was based on what he thought, strategically, would be best as a stronghold for moving ahead. Would he have like to get the whole ball of wax? Of course. So would I, so would every Tea Party member, but I respect him for his analytical diligence and also for his transparency in providing an open letter to his “fellow Americans” explaining exactly why he voted for the bill. He does this for EVERY vote, EVERY time. No candidate is going to satisfy 100%. I loved and supported Reagan, but I didn’t like his amnesty for illegal aliens. So would I have wanted someone else to primary him? Hell, no! Thing of all the great things he did that wouldn’t have happened had someone else taken his place because of that. And I feel the same way about West. Despite this vote, he is still the very best their is. As Democratic County official Mike Block admitted, “He is the most brilliant politician I have ever seen.” So let’s not resort to eating our own. Nothing would make liberals happier. West will be a powerful force for them to contend with, and they would like nothing better than to be rid of him. Right there, is an important reason to continue to support him, and yes, continue to let him know when you agree and disagree with his views. That is every American’s obligation and duty.

Many people unfamiliar with how a chess game is played lack the ability to fathom that a battle is often not won on the first move. The Right Scoop seems to be someone in that category, for being unable to understand West’s reasons for accepting the compromise now that will open up opportunities to achieve what we ultimately want.
