This ad rocks! I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a more America-loving, flag-waving, patriotic ad in my life. But what really makes this ad great is that it is a direct reflection of the man himself. Truly awesome.

    I thought the same thing. Maybe we’ve been so brainwashed by the progressives and liberals that we can’t see people as people anymore. They’ve got us looking at the world through their eyes. Instead of seeing cute kids reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, we try to count the little brown faces until we arrive at an “acceptable” number.
    Maybe Allen is going for the “I’m a safe guy” theme here.

    Sorry to be the lone dissenter, but the ad says absolutely nothing of substance. You could just as easily change the candidate’s name to Al Gore or Barack Obama and it wouldn’t raise an eyebrow.

    “This is what America is all about. Governing with Constitutional Principles. Guided by our core values. Giving everyone the opportunity to succeed. Everyone.”

    If we as a nation could agree on what that means we wouldn’t even need to have elections. It’s 100% pure, generic fluff.

    Not to mention that it has in it’s background the rather creepy Pledge of Allegiance (stay with me on this…) – that has people swear allegiance to the flag, the republic, and one nation under God – but (like the ad) makes no mention of any specific ideas or ideals. You could have the United States under hard-core progressive rule or Shiara law and not have to change one word in the pledge. That *should* creep you out!

    Edward Bellamy. Google him. Then ask yourself why a socialist would compose a pledge of allegiance. Them, ask why a progressive, through presidential edict, alone, would sign such a pledge into ‘law.’ Was such a pledge required by the Founders of this nation? I mean, aside from Hamilton and the New York Federalists?

    We’ve had other candidates wrap themselves in the flag thoughout the years, including some guy by the name of Obama. Some guy name of Newt did the same thing…two years before both parties got together and threw him under the bus.

    You’re repeating history, here kids. As Glenn Reynolds says, don’t get cocky.

    I agree about the “all white kids” thing.

    I hate the whole “diversity” business, but Col. West IS black and in addition to his many awesome qualities, one thing he brings is a potential to chip away at the Democrat monopoly on the black community. I feel that the glaring lack of a minority face is going to turn off a lot of potential voters and, as sad as it may be, make the colonel more vulnerable to “Uncle Tom” attacks.

    I didn’t know Allen West was black. I thought he was an American to the fullest just like all the kids in the background. Americans. Who cares the color. Americans. Get over the skin color and just go with the Man, Allen West. I have seen a lot of this guy and he is a true American.

    There were a couple of Latin kids in the group. Sure, they didn’t look like Pancho Villa or Frida Kalo (too young for mustaches) but we Latinos come in variety of colors. So you can comfort yourself with that.

    If there HAD been black kids in the ad it would have been declared contrived and obvious. You’re not going to please the left so it is far better to just grab a random group of kids and not sweat their ethnicities. That SHOULD be the American way. With leaders like Allen West it could be.

    NOTE2 on “why”: He crafted it for public presentation celebrating the 400th year since Columbus ‘discovered’ America. That is the “WHY” of the genesis of the entire project. No need to “ask” ourselves… it’s a part of clear, discoverable and discernible HISTORY.

    2. Benjamin Harrison (not a ‘progressive’… by the way) did indeed give a “PROCLAMATION” (neither an ‘executive order’, nor binding in ANY canonically LEGAL way) that same year ~ 1892.

    NOTE: It was The United States Congress that officially recognized the Pledge as the official national pledge on June 22, 1942.

    …still no FEDERAL “LAW”, making its recital mandatory.

    NOTE2: The Supreme Court did, in a 1940 decision, side with the Pennsylvania STATE LAW, concerning its ‘mandatory’ recital by school children… they reversed themselves… 3 years later.

    As for any other founders?

    Have you ever actually READ the Declaration of Independence? Have you ever stopped and actually tried to put yourself (and your job/business, home, marriage, family, LIFE) in their shoes at that moment of signing such a declaration of separation from the MOST POWERFUL RULING AUTHORITY on the face of the earth?

    They did (there’s a good bit of back-drop history, recorded by, among others, John Adams, about the feelings, thoughts, initial hesitations, apprehensions and downright misgivings surrounding those inked self-inflicted death warrants).

    But still, the last thing to rush through the eyes and fall into the seething, twisted mind (he was, historically, an unstable person) of that Tyrant was this:

    You do attempt to show yourself somewhat adroit by using that “cagey” little addition… “require”. Attempt… and fail.

    The gravity of the moment, and the fate and History forthcoming from their actions made such a PLEDGE… molecularly (I know, another “new” word from me… but it FITS) vital to the long-term success of, if nothing else, the solidarity of hope, resolve and Purpose which brought about the Declaration itself.

    FINAL NOTE:
    You are absolutely correct about flag-wrapped PHONIES being a part of the history and reality of life-politic.

    You are wholly incorrect about the current occupant of OUR HOUSE even getting close enough to a flag to be photographed with one around… unless it was in the presence of others on a stage, where a flag was present (the colors Red, White and Blue… do not a FLAG make, nor an American be).

    As the white mother of 4 black and black/white children, I was wondering the same thing. I actually watched it twice to make sure I didn’t miss something. I am 100% sold on Allen West – I want him as my President. So when I noticed the lack of “color” it wasn’t because I am a racist. The lack of color just caught my attention. Maybe because I’ve spent the past 20 years looking for items of color for my children that I’m a bit sensitive. West for President 2012!!!

    I could listen to Col. West everyday! Have you seen the video of him at church giving a sermon? He is a God Loving Man, a patriotic American, knows history of the US and the Middle East like the back of his hand and can explain it so well. He follows the Constitution and knows it. HMMMMMM, he is not Congress material, he is PRESIDENTIAL material!! I cannot wait till he walks up to Pelosi on January 2, 2011 and says, “Give me that D**n gavel!” LOL, cant wait.

    My children of color (some light and some dark) are going to love the colonel. While they have not been raised to judge according to color, they can’t help but notice when they are in a crowd of all white people. And I know they feel the most comfortable when there are others that look like them. And I, as their mother, appreciate when others understand their feelings. I also know how I would feel if his commercials had only people of darker skin colors. I don’t think I’d like it. That’s all the posters are saying. It just seemed a bit odd. Hopefully it’s a one-time deal and future ads won’t have this sideline issue so that the message can be front and center. Just saying…..

    I don’t understand why race is so important – don’t get me wrong, I wish more minorities who espouse conservative values would vote conservative. LTC West is one of many Americans of all races who want to live in a free and prosperous country. The only colors that matter are Red, White, & Blue!!!
    Unfortunately, when push comes to shove, few Americans believe in personal responsibility — that’s the ONLY reason LTC West can’t be elected President; his message calls for Americans to take responsibility for themselves and their actions.

    We will accept a President West in about 10 years, once we’ve worked over the American character problem- libs have to go so we can begin seeing people as people and respecting life from cradle to grave.
