Are these guys serious?? Iran makes veiled threat against US Carrier

Further proof that the Iranian military command is indeed, delusional:

“I advise, recommend and warn them (the Americans) over the return of this carrier to the Persian Gulf because we are not in the habit of warning more than once,” Iranian Army Chief Ataollah Salehi

The US response was, well shall we say, “diplomatic”,

The U.S. will not be deterred by a threat from an Iranian military leader who warned the American Navy to keep its carrier out of the Persian Gulf, a senior U.S. military official said Tuesday.

The Navy will “certainly not disrupt any of its planned movements based on this latest threat,” the U.S. official told Fox News, adding that Iran’s threat to close the Straits of Hormuz or act outside recognized international law is “further evidence that Iran continues to operate outside the norms of most nations.”

The ship in question is the USS John C. Stennis, CVN 74. She is 1,092 ft in length and a beam of 134 ft, not including her flight deck (275 ft). She displaces 100,000 tons of water. Aboard her are approximately 85 aircraft. You can find more on the Stennis here.

I think we can indeed conclude from this that the Iranian command, or at least Salehi anyway has been smoking something a bit on the questionable side. This will not end well for Iran, especially with the over-inflated ego that currently resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, that may decide he needs a boost to his “CINC cred”.
