Wow. It appears that Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, and Jon Huntsman will not be on the ballot for Virginia’s primary. I wonder if they struggled to get the 10k signatures needed. The deadline for submission was today and they didn’t turn anything in. Doesn’t sound like good news:

POLITICO – Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Rick Santorum all failed to meet the requirements for the Virginia ballot, according to the state’s board of elections.

Of the 2012 GOP hopefuls, just Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul and Rick Perry submitted the required number of signatures today.

The state’s primary, which is slated for Super Tuesday on March 6, has some of the most stringent ballot access requirements in the country: 10,000 signatures from registered Virginia voters, including 400 from each of the state’s 11 congressional districts. And the elections board recommends getting at least 1.5 times the number of required signatures — 15,000 for presidential candidates — in case any of them are found to be invalid.

Mitt Romney, who filed Tuesday, was the only candidate to get 1.5 times the required number of signatures: he submitted a total of 16,026 signatures, according to Chris Piper of the Virginia State Board of Elections.

Paul filed today with 14,361 signatures, Perry had 11,911 and Gingrich had 11,050.

The Gingrich campaign had announced yesterday, after “scrambling” to organize in the state, that it had reached the required number of signatures.

The state parties will certify the signatures from each of the candidates and decide by Dec. 27 whether or not the four GOP candidates are eligible to appear on the ballot, Piper said.

Are you freaking kidding me? This whole primary thing drives me nuts….by May probably none of my choices will be on the ballot. Damnit. I don’t want to hold my nose whilst voting yet again….alas

    • Anonymous

I agree….amazing. Maybe Virginians who are for Bachmann, Santorum or Huntsman should write them in. Worked for Murkowski – not an inspiring example, I know, but it worked.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1396855720 Brian Jones

That’s just BS that Santorum is being excluded. ALL of these candidates are SERIOUS alternatives to the BS we’ve BEEN having. How can we exclude them!?! Oh Virginia…

    • http://www.therightscoop.com/ The Right Scoop

Excluded? I don’t think so. He didn’t make the deadline. It would be his campaign’s fault, not the State of Virginia

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1396855720 Brian Jones

Oh, my bad! I thought he just didn’t get enough votes. I never liked the idea of excluding any serious candidate from a primary because they couldn’t get enough votes. Primaries are National business, and I just don’t like states making their own rules regarding National business.

But if he just didn’t make the deadline, that’s definitely his bad! Sorry about that!

Thank you Scoop! None of three mentioned put in much work in Virginia.

I think it would be really interesting to find out how much work these candidates are putting in and in which states. There may be more states ballot requirements they don’t meet or fail to meet by the deadline.

          • Anonymous

AH! A rational thinking person! My friend, you’ve asked a question that hasn’t been asked, or answered without spin. It would appear that those at the bottom of the polls are concentrating their money and their efforts in states that are launching points like N.H. and Iowa. Virginia, although she is my beloved home, isn’t very important at this time in the election process. Many other states are in the same spot. Virginians are seeking serious and well planned campaigns from those who seek the presidency. If a candidate doesn’t have the oranization in place to discover, and plan for Virginia’s campaign and filing laws, how serious a candidate can they be? We already have a president and administration unable to perform the basic tenets of governence. Why repeat that mistake? Merry Christmas to you and yours! VG

    • Anonymous

They were not excluded. The campaigns just did not make the deadlines. It’s just a failure of the campaign. By the way from our past conversations and – as a member of the military – I was wondering if you had seen this:

The title is You Like Ron Paul, Except on Foreign Policy
It gives a review of a lot of his confrontations about foreign policy.

Honestly, I just don’t trust Ron Paul at all. There is literally NOTHING in this world that will get me to vote for him. I just don’t have faith in him, and to vote for a Commander-in-Chief who I have NO faith in is a bad idea.

Thanks for the info on the deadlines though!!!

            • Anonymous

Yes and No – it was actually a pretty shrewd move on his part – he took the leaders from each each of their respective parties and endorsed them as an anti-establishment vote. If he had endorsed McCain and he would have won – then the conservatives would have been blamed for the current state of the economy. Not only that – endorsing McCain would have gone against everything that he stood for.
I voted for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution party – who he also endorsed.

        • Anonymous

Just curious how you can trust ANY of the other candidates and not Ron Paul. Every presidential candidate, including Obama, has made campaign promises to get elected and failed to produce. Ron Paul, win or lose, sticks to his words. He is the only person who hasn’t flipped or waivered on his convictions. He has held true to his word for the past 30 years and his votes show that. No offense, but one would question on what you base your “trust” and “faith”.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1396855720 Brian Jones

Why would you question ME at all? I’m not running for President!

            • AwareBeMe

Well, i take note of how that may have sounded that way and my apologies. I was questioning your comment that you don’t trust Ron Paul not you personnally. You have every right to feel the way you do. I guess, the bottom line is … i was really wondering why you do trust him.

          • Anonymous

Really? It seems he’s having a very hard time deciding whether he authored those newsletters or not – or whether he even read them. I think if I had a newsletter coming out in my name I’d sure as heck know what was in it.

            • AwareBeMe

Well, again, you get to choose. That being the basis of your trust and faith? Go for it. I think you should watch that video. The content of that video far outweighs not reading some newsletters. I can tell you from having been in business, there are many a words that go out under the top dogs name who hasn’t read it. That is the only thing going against him, happened 20 years ago, and he has disavowed it repeatedly. But then again, that is much bigger than all the lies of the others. Funny how the media spin works in this society. Good luck, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you.

        • puma_for_life

And, ps to all the Paul-haters, at least he is competent enough to get his signatures submitted on time so he can be on the ballot. If these other candidates cannot even get that together then maybe it is time for them to move on in life.

          • Anonymous

These people are only standing up for what they believe in and deserve respect. You are not going to convince anyone about anything if you are so vitriolic. If someone is mistreating you – or your candidate – slapping back doesn’t help anything. I’ve never seen Paul get nasty.

Please explain what we did to cause the Barbary wars?

        • Anonymous

We didn’t cause them – we ended them – after we were attacked – and congress decided to go to war AND made a declaration of war. Paul is not against going to war. He’s against going to war without Congress declaring the war. Since WWII – the President has a habit of going to war first and then asking whether or not to move forward after the thing has already been started.

Santorum has been a candidate for how long? The primary thing a candidate is suppose to do is explore what each state’s requirements and fees to secure his/her name on the state’s ballot. He jumped into the race very early. He had plenty of time. My guess, he couldn’t garner enough signatures to be on the ballot.

      This is so darn upsetting! Why would Virginia have such rules? And why would some states dictate to the rest of us who we should vote for ? :{

      • Anonymous

Milady, Virginia isn’t dictating to anyone as to who they can vote for. It is a simple matter of garnering 400 signatures per county to get ones name on the ballot. None of the three had much of an organization in place here. The general feeling is that after the Obama fiasco, we won’t get fooled again! Kudos to the WHO for the last 5 words! Simply put Cindy, they didn’t really try here in Virginia.

    • Anonymous

Agree with aPaulogist. Virginia has 7 to 8 million residing there and these candidates couldn’t garner 10,000? These states are bearing the costs to have elections. The names on the ballots should be a reflection of who The People want on their ballots. 10,000 is not even 1% of the population.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kris-Smith/100000135417264 Kris Smith

That is true… VA has plenty of Social Conservatives, and the Socially Conservative Republicans running cannot even get the signatures.

        • puma_for_life

Almost everyone will sign a petition to put a person or topic on a ballot even if they don’t agree with the person/subject because most Americans believe it is only fair and democratic to be on a ballot if you want to be so the conclusion is that these candidates did not even try to get on the ballot. It is not that hard to find someone in each county to collect signatures for you. The does not speak very highly of the these candidates’ abilities.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kris-Smith/100000135417264 Kris Smith

Yeah well, in there zeal to abolish the status quot, it sure looks like we will have 4 more years of it, whether a leading Republican wins or Obama wins.

I will vote for Paul. He is the most trusted to his word for me. Consistent for the past 30 years. Would have avoided all of these horrendous wars. Wish I saw that then. Merry Christmas everybody.

It sounds like a lack of having organization or paid staff to hit the streets. After reading that you need 400 signatures in each of the 11 districts it does sound fair. Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachmann probably put most of their money and effort in Iowa.
