Ben Breedlove: This is my story

This is one of the most touching videos I’ve ever seen. I don’t normally post stuff like this, but Ben’s story is amazing:

PART ONE:

PART TWO:

***

Kid Cudi responded to the video:

Iam so sad about Ben Breedlove. I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart. I broke down, Iam to tears because I hate how life is so unfair. This has really touched my heart in a way I cant describe, this is why I do what I do. Why I write my life, and why I love you all so much. Life is really f**ked up sometimes, but I know Ben is at Peace, and I hope he gets a chance to sit and talk with my Dad. We love you Ben. Forever. Thank you for loving me. To Ben’s family, you raised a real hero, he’s definately mine. You have my love.

Scott Mescudi

Ben had just created these videos a few days ago as it was uploaded on December 18. I haven’t confirmed this, but it’s all over the net right now and also in Kudi’s remarks. Apparently Ben passed away on Christmas night. RIP.

We should be happy that he’s gone on to the other side but saddened to know that we’ll never know him outside of this video clip.

“….we’ll never know him outside of this video clip. “ – warpmine

Not on this earth. But we will see him in heaven one day.

  • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

If this is true, I can’t cry for him. I can cry for his parents who will miss their son, and a sister who will miss her brother- but he is now with his Savior, a Blessed Christmas, who will never suffer again.

    • Anonymous

May God bless and be with him.

Honestly, this is the exact reason why I am puzzled why we mourn the dead. Every reading of the Scriptures I have done, every speech of Christ, it comes through that God is compassionate, caring, and attentive. Also, overly loud, is mankind’s irrational fear and assumption that living is the goal. Living right, living faithfully, living obedient to Christ – Yes. Absolutely.

But where did we get the crazy idea that it was God’s goal to keep us alive?

We are here, in my opinion, to get us ready to be there. It is “heaven”, make sure you fit that description and we’ll all be fine.

      • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

I agree b. I sure do miss those who have gone that I loved, but I don’t doubt they are better off now, and I long to join them- but it’s all His timing on that! :-)

What is it in this young man’s video that makes you believe he had saving faith in Christ? And HOW unhuman of you to deny mouring the Dead! The shortest verse in the Bible (the Word of God) is “Jesus Wept.” Do you know why? Because His friend, Lazarus had died. His friend. And the family of Lazarus was distraught…and his friend, Christ, wept! Because death stinks…and is a result of sin. Lazarus was brought back from death, only to DIE later.

Life is GOOD! God created it! Yes, we must all die. If our Lord cried upon the news of the death of his friend Lazarus, how dare you diminish DEATH?

        • Anonymous

Where did I say he had saving faith in Christ? I did and do pray that the Lord God is with him, and blesses him. It is not our place to judge him, but I can love.

          “…how dare you diminish DEATH?”

          …um, it’s conquered. (My, aren’t you cheery :-) )

Why do you fear and venerate death so? It is a conquered foe. It has no lasting sting. Christ is Lord and master of all; He has broken the chains of death for ALL mankind.

Death is NOT the end, nor do I believe in ‘soul-sleep’; death is simply a passage into a different existence for a period of time, then in the resurrection all men will rise again. Why should I fear death? Why should I grant power to the powerless?

I never said life wasn’t good… Heaven forbid that life be nothing but woe. However sweet that life may be, heaven and God’s presence is not to be shunned in favor of prolonging what we, in our ignorance, think is best. Why begrudge that boon to loved ones and others? Why mourn those who are at peace? If we mourn, mourn for ourselves, for OUR loss, for our bad perspective. yes there is pain. Yes the Lord wept. Yes I think there is a place and time for all things.

Just because my perspective on something is different than yours, doesn’t mean that either of us is inherently wrong. It is a different perspective, enjoy it. If it bothers you so, then there is probably something in it that makes you feel guilty or challenges your worldview – the assumptions and perspective that you live your life with. Enjoy the challenge. That’s what makes life good.
          :-)

What is sad is that Christmas will be changed for this family forever. It will be a day of extreme emotions.

Christmas doesn’t have to be ruined if a loved one dies during that time. My God fearing blind mother-in-law died at Christmas time. I’m happy for her at this time of year. I think of it as the day she saw Jesus. For me, it’s a double celebration.

        Amen. They are with Christ.

When I hear of a family friend or other who has passed on, especially if they were old or suffering in any way, my response is usually “Good for them!”

I don’t advocate euthanasia or suicide in any form, not even close. But if God takes someone home, HOME, why shouldn’t we feel good for them?

…Us, who are left… I can see sadness. I have not personally experienced loss in my immediate family. But my father has a standing request for his funeral: A party. (Drives my mother mad… :-) )

Knowing from Ben’s video that he wished he could stay in that room, his family can take comfort that he was ready. I hope his video helps them through all the moments they struggle with the grief of losing him.

I’m very thankful that they shared his message and hopeful it will reach millions.
      God bless us all.

What a touching story! And what a beautiful promise God has given us, that He has prepared a place for us! Knowing where we go, at the conclusion of our journey on this earth, remains at the core of our living faith!
Thank God for Ben, through his life and death, he accomplished more that many of us would: he was a living testimony that heaven exists. Do we believe in God and angels? Yes, we do!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1022754701 Laurie Cauler

Am I missing something? How has he “accomplished more that ( I think you meant Than) may of us would? And can you help me understand how his life accomplished that also? What am I missing in this story?

What did he say that makes you think God has prepared a place for us?? What did he say to confirm his faith in God? Why do you believe in Angels?

      • Anonymous

You have several comments on this board challenging this man’s final statement that he DOES believe in God. Did he define what ‘God’ he believed in specifically? No. But he was clear that his experience led him to believe in God, clearly stated so with a question to all who watched.

You asked and I have time, so I might as well address this… When someone says they ‘believe in God’, usually that refers to Christianity, as a Christian background uses a capital ‘G’ (Hinduism has many, many, many ‘gods’ and Islam refers to ‘God’ as ‘Allah’). As such, ‘God’, is usually assumed to mean Christ and the Father in normal American culture. Did he define it? No. But cultural usage considered, there is very, very little else it could be. I guess he could have been agnostic… but that’s your only other probable option.

“What did he say that makes you think God has prepared a place for us?”
With this and other statements empowering death and challenging the faith of other posters, I am guessing that you are having a bit of a rough time right now.

If I may respond to your questions; I am not being antagonistic, I am trying to be very, very clear.

I assume Ben believed in God because he said so.
I believe in God because He has personally answered my prayers. (I asked, listened, He answered. That usually means there’s something there. I call Him ‘God’.)
I believe in Christ because that’s what God told me was true. (Prayer. You get to ask if you want an answer.)
I believe God prepared a place for us because the sources He told me were true, told me that God prepared a place for us.
I assume Ben believes that God prepared a place for us, because Ben went ‘somewhere’, or saw ‘somewhere’, which caused him to believe in God. Under the usual definition of ‘God’, (All-powerful, Controls all, creator of universe, etc.), that means that God has a place for us to be after life.
I believe in Angels because I have been a beneficiary of many ‘Angels’. If you are referring to the classical meaning, (spiritual, godly messengers – and not messengers of God who happen to be living people), then I believe because of that aforementioned source, plus I have stopped and listened with my heart, and you can feel when help comes.

I have a question for you:

Do you need help? Are you in pain? Are you reaching out? Because from the point of view of many here, your first question of “Am I missing something” has a resounding answer; Yes. But the more important question, the one you need to ask yourself is: If you were missing something, would you be willing to accept that answer, and would you like that hole in your life filled?

  • Maxsteele

Thank you Ben for sharing your story with us. One can never know what the lord has in store for us but perhaps Ben was allowed to come back to us just to share this story with us. So we can all sleep a bit sounder knowing that the bright light is waiting for us at the end of our time here.
    Thank you Ben and TRS.

  • DCGere

Yes we believe in Angels and God. And Ben had the pleasure to experience and share what it will be like when we meet them. So sad for his parents and family…but we know he met Jesus on the other side. RIP.

I do I had the same thing happen to me. The light was soooo bright and all white no colors and as he said the feeling was so good and peaceful I didn’t want to leave either. It felt like I was being hugged by millions of people. It happened to me when I was in highschool too. That was 32 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. What Ben and I saw was Heaven. It was so peaceful it was scary. I didn’t want to come back but I did. There is a God and there is a Heaven I saw it with my own eyes. So people don’t be affraid to die. There are no people in Heaven only souls. SHANE FROM BAKERSFIELD

Died 4 times, never saw any bright lights, nothing. I did wake up during serious surgery, they said no you did not. We will all find out. I have seen several miracles, so now faith is knowledge. I pity the people who have no faith.

Ben is now surrounded by a sea of love forever. Waiting for us. Ask anyone who has ever had a near death experience. Or read the books that are out there on the subject. It will bring a smile to your heart.

  • http://twitter.com/PoeAllen Allen Poe

RS, I have been there, did that, 5 times. Boy could have just typed out the message. Unless, you have visited as many hospitals as I have, you don’t understand. I, for one, am glad the thing is over for the boy. Sometimes, it is just better to let one go. Faith in God, may help, as it did for me, but I feel sorry for the athiests. The only good thing I learned was, live each day as if it were the last. Simple, I know, but so true. May you learn, and be happy. Happy New Year!

I sat very still, coffee cup in one hand, but not drinking. Tears running down my face, but a smile on my lips at the same time. A broken heart, but a glorious feeling of hope at the same time. What a wonderful video. What a wonderful message to all of us. Thank you, Ben. God Blessed You.

This makes me think of my favorite song in all the world:

    “How Great Thou Art”

    Verse 4:
When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art!

    Refrain:
    Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

    Enjoy your new home sir.

Is any one else troubled by the lack
    of Jesus in this story?

    • Anonymous

A little. I think it was a soft-sell. The casting of a wide net, designed to get the most people interested and thinking about the hereafter. I put Jesus in there automatically. I hope he knew Jesus. If anyone knows the answer to this, it would be a good thing to know.

      • Anonymous

Thanks. I hoped I wasn’t the only one. The “wide-net” theory is a
good one. The “Spiritual” book shelf at the local New-Age book store
is not lacking for near-death, “go-to-the-light” accounts. But, whether
your “angel of light” appears as Elvis, or you favorite foul-mouthed
self-absorbed rapper… If you don’t come away from the experience
giving glory to God through His only Son, then it would not be wise
to take comfort on the experience. I hope also that he knew Jesus,
seems like a beautiful kid, but that is a glaring omission from his account.

        • Anonymous

I completely agree with you NJFred on your observation. There is no doubt that he was a good person but like you said there is a glaring omission from his account about having any faith in Jesus Christ. The bible does say in John 14:6…no one comes to the Father except through Him. True, our ways are not God’s but I can’t wrap my mind around the rapper encounter either. Why not Billy Graham or Mother Teresa as a representative? As believers and followers of Christ we can’t deviate from the scriptures just because something sounds and feels good. I truly hope this young man did express saving faith in Christ at some point and just omitted that very important part from his story.

Very funny. Now I’m convinced it’s fake. Here’s a clue Einstein: if you’re going to claim something on the internet is true at least link to some credible source. Your “word” means nothing since you’re not real either.

wow, your something else. To questions their sons motives during their time of grief, wow.
Check out the Austin Statesman, Fox news 7 in austin, kxan in austin and several other media outlets. Ben’s story has touched out entire city.

And I dont claim to be Einstein, but I am a family friend, and your terrible statement has no place on a paged devoted to a young soul who died on Christmas day.

Merry Christmas to you, and Happy New Year.

Janie, It’s no hoax! I am related to the family through marriage. The parents knew nothing of his story about his life postings until after his death. The family are devote Christians who walk the walk and talk the talk as are thier children. Perhaps Ben’s inexperience as a media guru may cast some doubts on some of you, but the majority who have read his story have gotten have message. Remember, he was only 18 years old. Whether you believe his story or not, what would be the purpose of a hoax with this child’s battle throughout his life. I see none. Have a blessed day.

I am currently reading a book on the Near Death Experience (NDE) by Dutch Cardiologist, Pim Van Lommel “Consciousness Beyond Life”. It is an effective attempt at a scientific/academic discussion of the subject. Case studies, statistics, plus medical science of what exactly does happen in an NDE. Some findings: Consciousness is still something science can not explain. It does not appear that a functioning brain is necessary for Consciousness to continue. Many stories like Ben Breedlove offers. Including the connection of experiences of those like Ben, who had an NDE as a young child and then later in life. In short, Dr. Van Lommel started off his study as an Atheist. After doing the work and research on his book, that is no longer the case.

I’ve been a nurse over 20 years and hospice for 5 of them. Medical science has gotten so good that we are now bringing people back literally from the “brink” of death. Because of that, we are hearing more and more of experiences like this one. What a handsome young man with such a sweet face. Having spent hours at the bedside of the dying, I have seen their faces light up as they say they hear and see things I do not hear or see. Music, bright lights, angels, also visits from deceased loved ones are common. I met a woman who became a hospice volunteer after experiencing a near death experience…she actually crossed over just like Ben and then was recusitated. She had drowned in a boating accident. Although it was very emotional for her to tell the story, she shared it with those who were afraid of death. I think these stories are gifts…God is allowing us to just see a hint of what is in Heaven. My grandson was on life support for a week at age 6. He had terrible pneumonia. Just before they put him out and put him on the ventilator (before he coded on us), he told me “hey, grandma, I see wings!” With my heart in my throat I said, “What kind of wings, honey” He then said, “Pretty wings, maybe it’s a butterfly”. There are no butterflies in the ICU. It was terrifying and comforting all at the same time. If we had lost him, I know there was an angel right there ready to “catch” him on his journey. Thanks for sharing, Ben. Love you.

Hi Mary sorry if I seem rude, but i’m trying to figure something out. Was every person that experienced heaven from your testimonies Christian?

      • Anonymous

I was doing hospice from 1995 – 2000. As I remember, most were Christian, but not all religous or overly strong in their faith. My volunteer who had the near death experience with drowning was not religous at all until after the experience. She claims that while she was in heaven, she knew she had been there before…and she was finally home. She went thru a deep depression upon finding herself back in her body. She always became very emotional talking about it. She finally decided that she must have a reason for God to have told her “not yet”, so she became a hospice volunteer. Very fascinating stuff! Thanks for you interest in my opinion. Happy New Year!

        • http://www.facebook.com/rudykaslofski Rudy Kaslofski

Thank you for your response. It’s giving me much to think about as I too am on the path of enlightenment, but I don’t know where to find God, or how to know Him. I recently withdrew my vows as a full fledged Christian, because of all the controversies in the bible, and the belief itself being extremely questionable due to Judaism being its foundation.

          • Anonymous

God is Love, Rudy. Just pure love. I believe our life here on earth is but a “parenthesis” in the whole of our existance. Those who cross over and come back often have a similar feeling of having been there before, and they don’t want to come back to the physical existance. What they experience is the most love you can imagine….I believe God IS the bright light. My sister died last January. Just days before she died she kept staring at one corner of the hospital room with her eyes wide with amazement. She would stare at the empty corner, then at me. She had lost the ability to talk, but her face spoke volumes. Whatever she was seeing made her at peace and unafraid. A few days before this happened she told my mother she had seen angels in the room. God is real, and so is Heaven. You will find Him first in your own heart. Good luck on your journey. God is with you! Ask Him to come into your life. I hear Him best when I am just quiet and listen…not with my ears, but to the voice in my heart. The more I listen, the more He talks to me. I also believe in Jesus Christ. Many who claim to have crossed over say they have seen the face of Jesus. I think the universe if full of miracles we cannot even comprehend. I know someday I will find out!

            • http://www.facebook.com/rudykaslofski Rudy Kaslofski

I just hope that God accepts more than just those that believe in Christ, because it seems quite unfair, even for someone like me that has heard the word, and received enlightenment I myself found it unreasonable to believe in the word of Christ, because of all the confusion in the bible and the earth.

This story only hit Australian news yesterday and wow what a story it is. What an impact this beautiful young man has left on me. I have emailed this link to almost everyone I possible can so the world can know about Ben and his incredible story. How can anyone ever doubt the belief in Jesus Christ, the almighty, after seeing this video and reading everyone’s comments??? I never doubted Christ, and never will. With all the hurt and hatred in the world, it is comforting to know that this young man will never suffer ever again. He is at peace with the “Angels and God”. Although his death is, i’m sure, difficult for his family to comprehend, I hope they take comfort in knowing Ben is now smiling down on them and protecting them in the safe arms of Jesus. Ben your story deserves to make headlines around the world. With much love, RIP beautiful

  • http://www.facebook.com/rudykaslofski Rudy Kaslofski

Was Ben Breedlove Christian? I’m wondering cause the video doesn’t say he is nor does Wikipedia say he is, but I don’t think you need to believe in God to go to heaven.

    • http://www.facebook.com/woods.larry Larry Woods

The only way to heaven is through Jesus the Son of God. Eccl 5:2 Prov 8:27 Mark 13:32 Mark 9:23 John 12:26 . These are just a few of the verses that comes from the KJ Bible. I certainly hope these help. I”m sure there are many with more knowledge that can quote other places. Ben seemed happy, assured and at peace. For me I believe he described his peace in Heaven. Thanks

      • http://www.facebook.com/rudykaslofski Rudy Kaslofski

I know he’s in heaven, but the thing is is that we don’t know his religious background, or if he even had any. I think it’s interesting. Most people know there’s a life after death, but not everyone believes the same thing.

        • Vivien

After this, I’m sure his family will be firm believers in Christ. I know many ppl claim to see the white light but I am so glad someone has publicised it for the world to know the truth. Yes it is true not everyone believes in the same thing, but unless you’re an athiest, you believe in something – commonly GOD

          • http://www.facebook.com/rudykaslofski Rudy Kaslofski

Well people that typically believe in Christianity don’t know why. There personal reason is no more or less in value than someone that has converted to being a Muslim. I think it’s ridiculous to think that only Christians will make it to heaven. That would mean that any other good loving person in the world who could’ve done far better in life than any Christian did all his good for no reason, and a Christian could’ve lied and cheated his way into paradise!

            • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1022754701 Laurie Cauler

Atually Christ wasn’t interested in “good loving persons” who did “good!” HE was interested in committed disciples. Willing to give up their lives for Him…out of LOVE! Becoming “Born Again” . And there ARE people who know WHY they believe in Christianity…but they mostly don’t “Believe” in Christianity..they have Faith in Christ! Big difference! Good Loving Persons don’t “make it” as far as God is concerned! Whose standards will you use? Yours or God’s? God’s standard is much too difficult to achieve..so Christ achieved it for us. You need to know the GRACE of God! Incredible forgiveness, Love and un-human forgiveness!

Why do you seem to think that Christians are the only ones that believe they’re going to heaven, or that Christians are the only that experience a white light in death? People shouldn’t be so narrow minded you know? We’re supposed to seek the truth.

I agree with that, Rudy. I think there is a God, but also believe that it matters more how you lived your life. Some people have negative experiences at death also….so if there’s a Heaven….there’s also a hell. If you’re really interested in this subject, there have been books out there for years…Dr. Raymond Moody was an early “pioneer” into this subject….many others have followed. There is also a show on now….sorry, can’t remember which channel….it’s called “I Survived…Beyond and Back”…where real people are telling of their experiences.

just reading the news here in Australia, and the Breedlove family have commented about the passing of Ben. This is the link to the story I just read. The families statement is the very last paragraph of the story – so yeah Rudy, it seems the Breedlove family were in fact Christians :)

Yes he was a Christian. His video was about his life not to preach the gospel.

Just so utterly touched. I too have died a few times. I saw something in his eyes and smile, his tenderness and an unearthly vitality. He ran the race and he crossed the finish line. Peace at last. Sometimes I am sure that this world created here on Earth, is undeserving of such souls as Ben. God bless our hearts through and through, even to the other side. Peace now and forever. Amen.

What a beautiful, lovely young man! So Dear! I do not know if he will go to Heaven…I do not know his heart! He suffered so. He seems so precious! I do KNOW that God is Good, and the bible says that “God is not willing that ANY should perish.”

Some people go through life touching nothing. Some touch but do not realise.
Ben touched people with his bravery and defiance to face the inevitable
You have touched so many hearts around the world that you will never be forgotten nor will you be alone A young life taken before his time but never forgotten for the journey he put us through.
    Condolences to all the family.
Rest in peace for you were amazing.

You can see the sadness in his face when he talks about his regrets and being sick. But, his smile surpasses it all and expresses such joy. I have no doubt he is with God in heaven smiling. I just feel sad for his family and those that knew him … what a true loss for them and the rest of the world.
