BillO and Brit Hume play down Palin/Rove attacks as just GOP skirmish nonsense

BillO had Brit Hume on last night to discuss the recent remarks between Palin and Rove, and Hume just played it off as a skirmish that doesn’t really mean anything. Just a quarrel because we lost the election or something:

He says it’s not a battle over ideas, as if to say that issues are the only things that matter. But that’s absolutely not true. When Rove and his Super PAC begin running ads against primary candidates they deem unworthy to hold office, they are essentially taking power away from the people. It’s one thing to have opposition groups attacking your primary candidate, but to also have a part of the GOP attacking that candidate as well is something totally different. It amounts to Rove and his group in effect saying the people aren’t smart enough to pick the ‘right’ candidate, so they need a little help, a little push in the ‘right’ direction.

Such arrogance.

And we’re not talking about a genius here who always wins. Rove’s track record in the last election was pretty poor. Yet he thinks he knows best.

And Hume is wrong. These primary battles are going along at the same time that the POTUS nominees are fighting it out. There’s nothing to stop Rove and his rich friends from buying up ad space and attacking candidates that they don’t want to win. And that’s really what this amounts to, candidates that they don’t want to win.

This isn’t just some skirmish, this is a fight for the heart and soul of the Republican Party. This is a fight for conservatism.
