Woah. Totally didn’t see this coming:
DAILY MAIL – David Petraeus today resigned as director of the CIA after admitting an extra-marital affair.
The former general had been one of the most respected figures in the military and intelligence establishment, but has stepped down to deal with the ‘personal and professional issues’ surrounding his relationship with a woman who is not his wife.
He had been sworn in as head of the CIA in September 2011.
UPDATE: Here’s a quote from Petraeus via Fox News:
“After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours,” Petraeus said. “This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation.”
