The Washington Post is reporting that Chris Dodd will announce that he is not running for reelection in the Senate. My initial thoughts on the reason for this is that he’s losing in the polls because of his corrupt dealings in the Senate. But even more than that, I don’t think the democrats want to give up this seat without a fight. I personally believe he was pressured to drop out simply so that they could put a more viable democrat in the running so that they can retain their seat. After all, the Senate is much harder to control than then House and they’ll need all they can get to retain a majority.
How this will turn out I don’t know, but I don’t think Republicans should look at this as a victory. Instead they should assume the fight for Connecticut just intensified. Check out Ed Morrissey’s post at Hot Air for more analysis of this.
Update: Glenn Beck said on the radio this morning that Richard Blumenthal will be running in his place, and according to Glenn, George Washington would find him a disgrace.
