Chris Matthews Show: Republicans have chutzpa over earmark ban

Howard Fineman decided to ignore the chosen nominees for the ‘chutzpa’ award on the Chris Matthews Show’s annual ‘awards show’. Instead he went with Republicans who loved earmarks until they recently decided they hated them. As a simple point of contention I would say that Republicans are trying to reform themselves as the party of small government and limited spending and I think this is less about ‘chutzpa’ and more about listening to the American people. Whether they live up to this ideal remains to be seen and perhaps the future would be a better indicator whether they deserve the ‘chutzpa’ award for this.

But even along those lines was a much better answer that even the producers of the show ignored by omission. As soon as I heard Fineman’s answer I was immediately reminded of the Democrat party who passed PAYGO legislation in February and yet ended up with a budget deficit for 2010 of almost 1.3 trillion. It can be nothing less than bias that these guys would ignore the chutzpa of the Democrats to hail themselves as deficit hawks, especially after the tantamount spending in 2009 and then end up with a deficit almost as large. And then for Joe Klein to jump in to ridicule Republicans for accepting the tax deal that included more deficit spending just shows the complete arrogance of the media elite. They simply can’t be trusted. But we already knew that.

Of course Klein also mentioned that Glenn Beck should ‘retire the cup’ for his ‘phony professorial air’ that he has when promoting his ‘ridiculous conspiracy theories by John Birch Society nut-cakes’. Oy. Talk about contempt and hatred for Beck. Well anyone who has followed Beck knows that he’s already gotten the best of Joe Klein on national TV, so I’ll just leave that there.

UPDATE: Earlier in the show Joe Klein also said that the ‘crazy right’ had the ‘angry black woman thing’ teed up for Michelle Obama but she hasn’t given them an opportunity use it! What a lunatic! You can watch it here.
