Christians in Egypt fear Muslim Brotherhood taking over

In this CBN interview an Egyptian Christian says that most Christians voted against the new referendum in Egypt that would ease restrictions on political participation and limit the presidency to two four-year terms, simply because they were hoping to postpone elections until more political parties could organize:

There are no organized parties that would represent the more moderate or liberal perspective. The only organized people are the Muslim brotherhood. So with a quick election in two months it’s pretty sure that they’ll get the majority of seats in parliament.

“Free and fair elections” happening too soon is exactly what many of us warned about and precisely the thing that Obama and neo-cons like Bill Kristol were pushing for. John Bolton pointed out that democracy is more than just free and fair elections and that the pillars of democracy don’t yet exist in Egypt. This rush into elections lends itself to exactly what this Egyptian Christian fears, that the Muslim Brotherhood will win the most seats and eventually this peaceful mask they are wearing will be taken off, only to reveal a much more oppressive theocratic system of government.

Now is the time to get out of Egypt.
