Comment features & registration at The Right Scoop

Most of you have registered to comment using our new comment system. I’ve been making changes to it all week, adding functionality and changing the design to facilitate a more pleasant experience. For the most part it is finished and here are a few things you should know:

  1. Once you register for the first time, your first comment must be approved. Please be patient until it is approved. This is to cut down on potential spammers who want to create an account. Once your first comment is approved you will be able to comment freely as you choose.
  2. I’ve gotten a few requests on allowing commenters to decide whether or not they want an email notification if someone replies to their comment. I have made that change. When you reply to someone’s comment or create a new comment, you will notice a check box below the comment form called “Notify me of follow-up comments via e-mail.” It is checked by default. If you do not want an email response to your comment please uncheck that box before you submit your comment.
  3. I’ve enabled the gravatars (icons) in the comments section. If your email isn’t associated with a gravatar you will notice a check box below the comment form when you are writing a new comment called “Sign me up for a free Gravatar image to appear next to my comments.” If you check the box when you submit your comment, it will send you an email with instructions on how to set up a new gravatar icon. If you don’t want a gravatar then please ignore it.
  4. Only people who are registered to comment are able to use the ‘like/dislike’ feature on comments. This is simply to prevent people who haven’t registered from trying to hide comments they dislike.
  5. Lastly, CM Sackett and KenInMontana and both moderators of the comment section. They have the power to disable your account if you become unruly, troll for fights or if you just troll period. If for some reason you fall into this category and feel you have been wronged, you are free to contact me. I don’t think we will have many problems with this though since all commenters must register to comments. This should cut down on the hit-and-run jobs by anti-Palin trolls and so forth.

If you haven’t registered please go ahead and do so. I hope you like the changes I’ve made to both the design and functionality of the comment section. If you have any problems let me know. Otherwise I look forward to reading your comments!

UPDATE: If you’ve just registered for a new account, write a comment on this thread so I can go ahead and approve it and you’ll be good to go.
