Cop bullies woman videotaping at a Gulf beach

via Breitbart.tv. A woman is video taping a medical emergency at our great oil soaked beaches at the Gulf, and she’s asking questions of the personnel on scene like “what’s going on” and “did someone get hurt”. Soon after a cop shows up and tries to get her to leave the area. Now first, it is none of her business what’s going on at that scene. If she can ascertain it on her own, fine. But she should know better than to start badgering the personnel on scene with questions, as they’ve got a job to do and they have a patients privacy to protect. They don’t owe her any explanation and as far as I’m concerned it doesn’t matter what they tell her, if it’s a lie or the truth. And just to point out, it’s standard procedure for medical personnel to block people from seeing the patient, as the patient is typically in a vulnerable state and sometimes they have to cut clothing away, and so on. It’s really just a matter of respect.

That said, once she gets out of their way, she isn’t infringing any more on their ability to do their jobs, and if she wants to video tape she has the right to do that. The cop has no right to ask her to leave, because she is out of their way. It is interesting that the cop leaves when she wants to call his boss, and it does appear that he is doing BP’s bidding. It seems to me the cop knew his boundaries though, and wasn’t going to push it if she was unwilling to oblige. He was probably hoping she was dumb and agreeable, but she was far from that.
