I have watched FNC for years and I have detected a shift overall to the left. 2)The ever-present “fair and balanced” debate between the 2 sides has become very stale and tedious, 3) Since CNN and MSNBC, not to mention NYT, WaPo, NBC, CBS, ABC, Time, Newsweek, NPR, etc. ad nauseam are completely leftwing oriented, is it too much to ask that conservatives have somewhere to go on TV that reflects our views without ALWAYS having to hear the idiot other side? By the way, Fox is still very right leaning. O’Reilly is more right than left and for every liberal he has on the show (on many nights, either just Colmes, Williams or Marshall), he has three conservatives (Morris, Rove, Hume, Goldberg, Ingraham, etc…). Not complaining – I like it.
Hannity is off the shelf right. He sees his role in life to crush all liberals, and never admit a mistake made by a conservative. Clearly this hour is much more right leaning without Colmes.
Greta is Center-Left. But she does more entertainment programming than political (i.e. reporting ad nauseum on Natalie Holloway), and could never be seen as a mover/shaker in the political world.
I say bring more liberals into the conversation. The more they talk, the more they expose themselves (i.e. Bob Beckel).
Do what you wish, but for me, I watch everything I can and then make my own decisions.

…I guess I wasn’t explicitly clear. She starts with a bit of truth, then ‘improves’ it for shock value so she can incite a reaction disproportionate to the actual facts; aka, going ‘overboard’.
Most entertainers do that. Often, others don’t even start with a shred of truth and instead simply go for offensive: Chris Matthews, Bill Mahr, etc.
She is in a business of selling her books and influence. HER influence. I just want to know what in the world she is trying to do here. It isn’t clear. She is insulting her economic arena… for what? In favor of a candidate who doesn’t represent them? It doesn’t make sense.
I agree with the kernel of truth that she starts with, not her overblown hyperbole or name-calling.

I have never taken Ann as an “entertainer” per se. She was kind of a cross between Perry Mason and Dorothy Parker. Her books read like legal briefs, punctuated with punch lines. Yes, there has been an element of hype, but not factual innacuracy, and not logic so fragile it breaks if you turn on a light.
I think Obama has people going crazy and that may be an element of it. There are also examples of aging judges drifting leftward. But this is surreal.
Ann’s next article is out. Having proclaimed Romney King, she is busily deflecting non-exitent Democrat class-warfare attacks on Romney as if he is already the nominee. This came out about four hours before Santorum swept three primaries.
Taken by itself, it might not mean much. In context, I am getting an eerie feeling she’s Captain Queeg testifying about the missing strawberries.

Newt & Mitt are pretty much a wash on healthcare. Gingrich endorsed Romneycare in 2006, and he’s repeatedly advocated an individual mandate at the federal level. If anything, Romney is slightly closer to the Tea Party here, since he’s always supported keeping it a state decision.

I know what you mean. I used to live on HotAir. I always knew that Allahpundit was a New York moderate republican, but I still enjoyed his insight and humor. All that changed after Michelle sold the site, now he has become totally unmoored. Ed and the other featured bloggers have also drifted left as has the site overall. Why have respected Republicans like Coulter taken such a left turn? The tactics she is using are straight from the left’s play book. She is usually capable of forming an argument and defending it. I was looking back at when Coulter was the only one with the intestinal fortitude to call out the Democrats in no uncertain terms with sarcasm and wit. I remember to how the conservative sites at that time were asking her to calm it down and were noticeably embarrassed by her honesty. In fact some would apologize in advance for linking to her latest outrageous outburst against liberals. How times have changed. It now looks like instead of leading she’s been left in the dust.

Furthermore, as the New York Times documents, Newt urged House Republicans to vote against the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Newt is in favor of efforts to increase home ownership in America but as a conservative believes they must be within a context of learning how to budget and save in a responsible way, the opposite of the lending practices that led to the financial crisis.
As part of Newt’s Jobs and Prosperity Plan, Newt advocates breaking up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and moving their smaller successors off of government guarantees and into the free market.

The interviewee was chairman of the Texas Workforce Commission and head of the Republican Party of Texas. He was in the venture capital business for 6 years after leaving the Reagan administration.
He very clearly explains why Mitt Romney is *not* a job creator, but that what Bain did actually killed jobs, and the difference between venture capital and leveraged buyout companies like Bain, Michael Milken, and Steve Schwartzman. It is not complicated and is easy to understand.
Romney will get crushed by the MSM over Bain.

Those who have served as contractors or consultants to government agencies or departments should not be disqualified from ever running for office.
Folks who refer to Newt’s career in the private sector as “influence peddling” are disingenuous, spewers of Romney talking points, and/or jealous that Newt’s resume includes Speaker of the House. Heaven forbid a Newt Gingrich consultancy use his actual resume to promote its business.

I’m going to have to throw a flag here, as a Moderator. I think your debates keep running off the rails because of a tactic that pretty much always takes debate off the rails. You might not be aware you’re doing it (most folks aren’t, until it’s noted).
In a contentious debate, namecalling is always a bad idea, but occasionally it happens, and we might let it slide (as long as it isn’t nasty). However a bigger problem is “telling people what they think.” When you try to pigeonhole people by telling them what they think, or what philosophical group you’ve decided they are in, it creates logic problems for you (ad hominem as well as straw man) and generates anger. So please refrain from telling folks things like, “you’re a moral relativist” and that they “love sin” and related other declarations about what it is that they are thinking.
This goes doubly in religion-related debate. I will shut those down, firmly if I detect that tactic being used.
Remember, this is about how you formulate your argument, it’s not about what you believe or wish to convey.

I understand my comment was simple and therefore open to challenges, but my intention was to point out that the Lord does not endorse any political party, as parties are created by man with simple human ideals consisting of many which God inspired and many which He did not.
I can not define morality in this thread sufficiently to convince anyone here, I only believe that my Lord is my heart and challenges me daily to follow Him.

Libertarians do believe in individual liberty as long as you don’t force that on anyone else. And with that freedom facing the consequences of your actions. The government’s only legitimate role is to protect individual rights to life, liberty and property, and not abrogate/cancel these rights. It is right to have laws against murder, assault, rape and theft, but actions that do not intrude on the rights of others should not be restricted.
Remember: government is an institutionalized force…expanding government power to do what you think it should ensures that future politicians will use it in ways you think they shouldn’t. There should be STRICT limitations on government!

The line in the Document is, “endowed by their Creator”, a deliberately generic reference, due to fact the man who authored it was all too aware not all of those that would be affected by the document and ensuing events brought about by it, called God by the same name. The author, Jefferson, was just a tad ambiguous in his approach to religion.
Before you pound too hard on the word Libertarian, bear in mind the men you previously quoted were not Conservatives, but were in fact termed Liberals by their contemporaries and known as Classic Liberals to Historians.
Then the preceding demand, “Define morality.” Which definition would you like? Look it up there are several. Morality or one’s own morals are subjective, they are subject to many influences among these Theological, Societal, Familial and ultimately in the case of personal morality, Life experience. The 10 commandments hang on the wall of many of our courts so of course they have everything to do with a Republic surviving. Many of our law were/are based on principles found in the Bible. We used to put rapists and murders to death, and we should return to punishing the evil instead of the good.

Mosaic law is Hebrew and was written for and by the Jews, Leviticus were strictures, laws and practices that apply to the tribe of Levi. Go back read the US Constitution, it has little to do with civil law, as in crimes and punishment. If indeed our founders meant for our nation to be a Christian nation ruled by Biblical Law why did they include this in the text;

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
Morality is drawn from many sources including religion, but it is not exclusive to any particular religion or to religion itself. Witness the fact that a good share of the morals of Christianity are drawn from Judaism. However that said, religion is morality based.
As to Wallbuilders, while David Barton has done a yeoman’s job of collecting original documents and writings from historical figures related to the foundation and beyond of this nation, the documents he tends to predominantly focus on are those that support his personal views on the nature of the founder’s intent. Which would explain why you would ignore Jefferson and cherry pick quotes from Washington and Franklin that you believe will bolster your position, which is fine as we are all guilty of it to one degree or another, but I would encourage you to read beyond the selected writings that Barton presents.
Now to the Declaration of Independence, I had to chuckle a bit when you quoted a man who was 8 years old at the time the Declaration was ratified as to what the Document did or was intended to do, yet you completely ignore the author, whose opinion on the document would be far more relevant and knowledgeable than that of John Adams’ son. The Declaration is a list of grievances and a statement of a course of action and purpose. The purpose of the document is laid out clearly and concisely in its preamble;
When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
Now if, as you assert, the document was intended to declare the formation of a “Christian Nation” ruled by Biblical Law, why would the author, Jefferson, give equal status to “the laws of nature and of nature’s God” ? Why the style of reference to God as “nature’s God” and not as the “Christian God”? There is no mention anywhere in either the Declaration of Independence or the US Constitution of any sect or denomination of any particular religion.
Do not try to construe this as a denial of the fact that American are a predominately Christian people or “nation”, however every nation that we refer to as “Western” is predominately Christian (although this is changing in Europe). Nor should it be construed as a denial that our founders were Christians as I have never asserted that, you tried to imply, in error, that was what I stated. In regards to religion, our nation was founded, in great part, on the concept of religious freedom, you cannot have religious freedom when a nation is ruled by one denomination’s interpretation of scripture.

More often it’s the other way around. It often costs the infringer little or nothing to infringe (the neighbor interfering radically with the peace of my yard and home by playing electronically reproduced music out in his yard, the smoker at the bus stop, etc.).
Protecting the basic liberty of one person, requires the force of law to prevent another from infringing upon it.
Law, on the one hand, is necessary, and a civic ethos (for example: think, don’t play your stereo such that you neighbor is effected by it–he has a pre-existing right to the quiet that normally prevails in his yard that supercedes your ‘right’ to fill the air with electronic entertainment), is necessary, on the other hand, as the sustaining complement of law, and respect for the law.
As for the libertarian drug issue: I would say that, in as much as we have accepted the necessity of living in society, individual liberty, within a society, implies reasonable expectations on others to maintain themselves fit for preserving my liberty and safety (as they also must expect of me)–if a majority believes that unrestricted drug use harms the underpinnings of liberty and basic societal safety, it is altogether acceptable to pass laws against it.

Excellent comments. I am not advocating an absence of the rule of law (anarchy). The purpose of the law is indeed to protect the rights and liberty of individuals. The problem is when the law is used to violate the rights and liberty of one to benefit others. As Bastiat would say, “the law perverted.”
As for your comments on drug legalization, I think that the 18th and 21st Amendments show that prohibition as a means to protect basic societal safety (and morality) is a flawed concept.

I have to disagree with the conclusion that the repeal of the 18th amendment confirms the categorical invalidity of prohibiting some behavior–such as the intentional consumption of hallucinogens.
I would agree that the morality question is an important one. As with abortion vs. a God-given right to life, it is primarily the mass of individual attidudes that will most firmly secure the right to life for unborn children. But it doesn’t follow that society is compelled to take a laissez-faire approach to abortion while waiting for attitudes to change.
Alcohol obviously poses many problems in society, but it’s moderate use has also long occupied a broad and basic place in the social fabric–hence the broad disrespect for blanket prohibition. Marijuana and other hallucinogens (and narcotics) are considered by many to be significantly more problematic than alcohol, and to be without any of the long-standing broad historical acceptance in the West that alcohol has long had.
Due to the widespread disfavor for the idea of socially accepted drug use, state-by-state prohibition of drug posession and distribution would likely continue without federal laws (but lead to even more enforcement problems)–so the issue isn’t federal prohibition vs. general license.
Another aspect of the drug question is, ‘how to close the lid on Pandora’s box once opened?’ Those opposed to legalization of marijuana and other drugs essentially point to the potential dangers to society, and say to those who declaim those dangers, ‘we can’t afford to find out experentially; the damage would be too great and in too many ways irreversible. Considering the risk, we are far better off to leave it as is–illegal.’ This is really another version of the basic question underlying the Iran dilemma (on which libertarian Ron Paul is wrong). Which is the greater long-term risk–to try it and find out, or keep things as they are now?
One more pivotal issue is enforcement difficulties. It’s the organized economic interests that really cause the enforcement difficulties. A few scofflaw potheads with a potted plant in the closet won’t bring down the Republic (and we don’t have any need to change the laws because of them), but the Central and South American narco-terrorists might make a pretty good run at doing so if we aren’t vigilant. Capitulation to organized crime is always a mistake–it can’t ever be an implicit argument for the legalization of something.
So the drug question is not just a simple issue that can be answered by the fact that the 18th amendment was later repealed.

Also, Drudge had a report by the NYT today about Newt in the tank for Freddie Mac. I noticed three glaring problems with their article:
1) They tried to equate Freddie Mac of the ’90s with Freddie Mac of today. There’s a big difference in Freddie Mac after the Dems got control of the Congress.
2) They tried to claim that Freddie Mac partially sponsored his trip to Ireland in 1998, when in fact he was over there for various reasons and only part of it was in support of ‘Habitat for Humanity’ to build a house, which Freddie Mac was also in support of.
3) They claim the old argument that Newt took $1.6 million from Freddie Mac, when in fact that was his company that took that amount and he only got a small portion of it (~$35,000/year). I’m sure they wouldn’t claim that Bain Capital’s profit of $12 million from the sale of the corrupt Damon, Inc. wasn’t going directly to Romney (his share was ~$450,000) and I wouldn’t either. It’s disengenuous.

Yes, all of these candidates have helped me see that there is no perfect one and that there will be things about each you like and things you won’t like.
When looking at the lives of other Presidents and their campaign prior to becoming President many have said things on the campaign trail but didn’t follow through on all of the promises after becoming President. You have to factor in that there will be promises spoken of by these candidates that just won’t get fulfilled afterwards!
I am hopeful though that they will be much more loyal to this country and what America stands for than the current President!

Newt was an analyst and advisor, not a legislator and he gave the proper advice – which they ALL ignored.
Conservative voters are not stupid or blind.

We can smell a liberal a mile away.
We can also smell bull exudate when it is pitched at us. Many of us actually own and raise bulls, and cows – we don’t just invest and manipulate the prices of beef from cushy offices on Wall Street and Chicago.
We can do our own thinking, do our own research and we actually look at politicians records and listen to their words and can see when words are lies and don’t match facts.
We watched Romney lie seven times at least on stage at the last Florida debate where he had bought up more than 2/3 of the seats to pack the audience with his own supporters.
We can see through the mass of also bought and paid for media bias and excrement being thrown around by the Romney campaign – Obama educated us well.
In a sane and honest world – Romney would be a Democrat.
Don’t try to sell him to the conservative electorate. You will lose your credibility in so doing.

I don’t think there is a single member of the GOP electorate who is voting for Newt because they believe he will lose to Obama. Some of Anne’s insights have been great, but it seems obvious by now that the temptation toward elitism is powerful among Republicans as well as Democrats. The problem for the nation is that elitism, itself, necessarily leads leftward in any democratic society.
As a relevant aside, I’m reminded of a book by Norman Podhoretz: He described how he went from being a socialist internationalist to being a (neo) conservative. He described his time in the armed forces, and how his personal experience in close proximity to a large group of men from widely differing backgrounds pushed him to the conclusion that the socialist ‘brotherhood of man’ ideal was unrealistic and unobtainable (essentially, contrary to his socialist ideology, he found it very distasteful to be bound up so closely with the ‘great unwashed’). My point being that his neo-conservatism, along perhaps with Anne’s version of conservatism, is fundamentally infected with an inclination toward elitism. They, the smart ones, should be running things (the ‘smart ones’ on the right, only moderately less than those on the left, are elitists).
Its hard to picture Anne proclaiming as Bill Buckley did that she’d rather be governed by the first 2000 names in the Boston phonebook.
Elitism is the real problem. Judging from some of his later writings, N. Podhoretz may have recognized that problem

Coulter is firmly encamped within the Northeast GOP Beltway corridor – maintaining residences in NY and DC, attending the cocktail party circuit and generally mixing it up with the GOP establishment – far removed from the concerns of average citizens who reside beyond the Beltway clique. This explains why she’s fallen hook, line and sinker for the GOP establishment’s false premise that Obama can easily win re-election because they continue to believe that most of the country is not conservative or right-leaning, and as a consequence, the party must nominate a Democrat-in-disguise Republican in order to have any chance at beating him. Of course, Ann and her spineless Beltway cohorts couldn’t be further from the truth, as more than 40% of Americans in Gallup polling self-identify as conservatives with only 21% as liberal.
Coulter is simply towing the GOP establishing line – marginalizing conservatives and allied Tea Party activists to diminish their influence in Washington D.C., while believing that if Romney loses to Obama, they can still curtail his policies with majorities in the House and Senate. This is a path toward national self-destruction, as Obama has already proven, even before his re-election bid. For Obama, in fact, is already ruling through Executive Fiat – bypassing Congress with unconstitutional recess appts, installing czars, promoting Cap-and-Trade through his EPA, and ordering the US military to topple previous allies to install Islamist govt, etc. – all without congressional authority. It is unbelievable that Coulter, et al, do not realize that by nominating Obama-lite, the real Obama has a greater shot at re-election victory, because given a choice, most uninformed voters will readily vote for the “real” Democrat, instead of a substitute, that offers no substantive compare-and-contrast.

No conservative can defend Romneycare…. the concept, or the impact.
I am a resident of Massachusetts and it is bankrupting our state and destroying our medical system. Romney lies saying that 3 out of 4 residents of Massachusetts like it. That is NOT true! Our premiums are the highest in the country so people cannot afford them and they are being forced on the government health program which is unsustainable for the state. People are also paying the fine instead of buying insurance so our emergency rooms are more crowded than ever before! Doctors are having a terrible time getting MRIs and tests for their patients, especially in highly populated areas, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of MA which is a non-profit insurance provider may be forced out of business by 2017.
And Romney refuses to distance himself from Romneycare. IF he can beat Obama, which I doubt (his approval after one term as governor was 43%… why if he was so great?) he will NOT repeal Obamacare – and that alone will destroy this country.
If you want to elect a RINO to run against Obama, that’s fine, but do not make the mistake of believing Romney is a conservative. He only became a conservative for political expediency when he decided to run for President – after he lost the senatorial election.
He will say or do anything to get elected. He has no conservative credentials, he cannot communicate conservative ideals beyond a few memorized talking points, and he does not govern as a conservative.
The establishment, and apparently Ann Coulter, do not like conservatives so they are backing Romney, but even Karl Rove said he needs to come up with a few conservative ideas. He has no substance.
I don’t know what is motivating Ann Coulter these days, but it must be self-serving because nominating Romney will not provide a viable opportunity to beat Obama and make the changes necessary to restore America!

I have always liked Ann Coulter. I believe that she made a mistake in criticizing the tea party and it seems that she has said some pretty funky things lately. I will not condemn someone just because they bad mouth the candidate that I like (although I really like Newt, I believe that Romney has the stamina that is required to succeed). It also seems that she has made some strange alliances. She has been around for a long time and kind of jumped up to the limelight rather quickly. May be she is just experiencing some growing pains. I will admit that I have not followed her closely and I do see a great number of people that have opinions that I respect, are questioning her principles and intentions. For now I will stand by Ann and wait for her true intentions to reach the light.

I really have not payed much attention to her lately & I would not say that I am a backer and supporter of Ann Coulter. She seems to have a good belief system and clings to her morals. She is not a person of any political significance. She has said some pretty far fetched things lately. It seems the more she says, the less significant she becomes. Her heart is in the right place and she seems to be a pretty nice person. If she gets it together and gets on the right track, all will be forgiven. One good thing about her though, she sincerely wants Obama to lose.

Ann Coulter is clearly an opportunist. When she hoped Chris Christie would run she was criticizing Romney. No conservative can defend Romneycare…. the concept, or the impact.
I am a resident of Massachusetts and it is bankrupting our state and destroying our medical system. Romney lies saying that 3 out of 4 residents of Massachusetts like it. That is NOT true! Our premiums are the highest in the country so people cannot afford them and they are being forced on the government health program which is unsustainable for the state. Doctors are having a terrible time getting MRIs and tests for their patients, especially in highly populated areas, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of MA which is a non-profit insurance provider may be forced out of business by 2017. And Romney refuses to distance himself from Romneycare. IF he can beat Obama, which I doubt (his approval after one term as governor was 43%… why if he was so great?) he will NOT repeal Obamacare – and that alone will destroy this country.
I don’t know what is motivating Ann Coulter these days, but it must be self-serving because nominating Romney will not provide a viable opportunity to beat Obama and make the changes necessary to restore America!

She’s right. Obama is going to get annihilated in the general elections against Romney and he knows it. That’s why he would rather go against someone much like himself, like Gingrich, another big government progressive that pretends to be a conservative. If far right conservatives were serious about nominating a far right conservative, they should be voting for Santorum, not Gingrich, who has been a liar and a hypocrite throughout the entire election process about his conservative credentials. It’s ironic that Gingrich has attacked Romney as a moderate and a liberal despite calling himself a Reagan conservative when even Reagan wasn’t initially a conservative but a liberal before he became a moderate if anything. Even Reagan raised taxes. For someone who seems to enjoy associating himself with a conservative icon, he doesn’t seem to give much truth to Reagan’s otherwise moderate credentials, which correlate more with Romney’s principles than his own. Oblivious voters on the far right will of course continue to disregard this deception and vote for whoever their so called ‘conservative’ talk show hosts root for, such as Levin, Hannity, Palin, Cain or Rush. It should also be noted that this country was founded on center right principles. The reason for this is because polarized liberals and conservatives are the least likely to effectively compromise and reach across the aisle. Romney is the ideal candidate to not only defeat Obama (a polarized liberal) and win the Presidential nomination, but also drive the ideal center right principles this country was founded upon and in turn return this country on the track to prosperity that it once was,

I am rapidly losing my respect for Ann. If we could coalesce as a party around any candidate now running it would be Santorum, but we are not a party. Her support of Romney is no more different then Newt. Both have their big government views. I fear we are probably to far along for there to be any significant change in DC towards the Constitution. We need to start locally and build outward if we really want to take this country back. Our journey is a long and difficult one ahead and will require plenty of patience and prayer.

How can one conclude, (in light of tea-party original principles), that any of the candidates fit this description, other than Mr Paul? He was urging a return to constitutional law before there was a tea-party. Bloomberg has exonerated Gingrich on this and yet people want to claim the 35K Gingrich personally made from the deal (his company did other work) was some how illegal or wrong.
This from the same group that claims it was perfectly acceptable to throw people out of jobs at AMPAD – to fake increased profits before selling the risk to another company. Bain ended up making MORE MONEY off of Ampad than they did STAPLES. That’s right.
So who’s the worse villan here? Gingrich who is ON RECORD in a NYT article telling Congress to NOT approve more funding/latitude for Freddie, or the guy who we now know covered up complicit MEDICARE fraud at DAMON before selling it?

You know, I’ve grown really tired as of late of all of these so-called “Conservatives” pundits trashing genuine Conservatives. If the Tea Party were a violent lot, then they’d probably open their next ‘tea party’ with a burning of Annie’s books. I think I’m done with her; any time I see her on a program, I’m gonna turn her off. I have no problem with debate within the Conservative movement, but I really despise openly trashing our own. I haven’t watched the video and won’t. Suddenly this troublemaker whose books I have (all of them) is disgusting. As with all those supporting Romney I believe they’ve been promised something in his administration. Coulter as main speechwriter? It will be interesting to see (if he wins) how these supporting players figure into his administration. The biggest disappointment to me was John Bolton coming out for Romney. I would hope, though, that he would become Secy of State, a position Newt said he would consider Bolton for last Fall. I don’t expect any of Jim DeMint’s senate conservatives to be involved in a Romney team. I truly believe the IOU’s will be paid out by Romney.

Don’t know what happened to Ann. I’ve always looked forward to her next book. Haven’t bought any of her latest. She lost me while pimping for Christie. Not to big on any (R) candidate, however Romney is the furthest away from Tea party representative than Gingrich if she wants to pick a Tea Party fav. Romney is so establishmentarian concerning D.C. and the (R) party. Not to be mean, but I believe her mom passed a short time ago. Perhaps something to do with her pilosophy.
