Death Panels return in the stealth of night

Tucker Carlson, subbing in for Hannity, had a lively debate with Kirsten Powers over the new end-of-life planning regulation being enacted by our Medicare socialist-in-chief Donald Berwick. As you recall, government incentivized end-of-life planning was famously given the moniker ‘Death Panels’ by Sarah Palin and was thus removed from the legislation because it became toxic. It has now been reinserted in the stealth of night as a regulation. I guess they figured all along they would just regulate what they could not legislate.

Kirsten defends this new regulation as something that is innocent and benign. The problem though is that you can’t separate this innocent regulation from the massive rationing that will occur at the end of the day when resources become more scarce, depriving patients of care that they need. This new regulation may seem quasi-innocent now, but when ObamaCare kills the private health care industry and thus it all becomes government managed health care, that’s when these incentivized end-of-life planning sessions will likely become mandatory. Eventually older people will probably be told that there is just nothing else that can be done.

Sure, right now it’s just voluntary, but that’s just the boot heel in the door. We all know how this game will end. It’s all about cost.

Sarah Palin was right then and she’s still right.
