Democrats decide new PayGo rules aren’t important after all

It wasn’t that long ago that the President said 2010 would be all about jobs. It turns out though, that he meant to say health care, because 2010 has been all about passing this Health Care Reform bill that America doesn’t want. During the same speech (SOTU), the President also touted that they would restore the “Pay-As-You-Go” rule as part of being fiscally responsible. And they did, the very next day. But it turns out this may be more pomp and circumstance than much else (emphasis mine):

But already, the Senate has issued itself a waiver from the provisions on three of the four spending bills its has considered by declaring several bills to be emergency spending, including a $15-billion jobs bill, a $10-billion measure for unemployment benefits and a $100-billion package of tax extenders.

“Republicans like to call it ‘Swiss-Cheese-Go’ because it’s very easy to circumvent,” said Brandon Arnold, director of government relations of the libertarian CATO Institute.

Arnold explained the impasse last week between Democrats and Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) over the $10 billion in benefits for unemployed Americans, which Bunning vocally opposed because the measure was not paid for under PayGo rules. “They were able to use the PayGo emergency designation when in fact they knew months previously that these programs were going to expire,” Arnold said.

Apparently all it takes is an ‘emergency’ to waive the new paygo rules. It looks like Republicans were right in labeling this a pretense to make the Democrats look fiscally responsible when they appear to have no plans of actually doing so. In fact it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out just that based solely on the 2009 spending levels. How can you run up a huge budget deficit and then claim you want to be fiscally responsible? That’s the pot calling the kettle black if I’ve ever heard it!

Interestingly enough when Bunning decided to hold them accountable to this new rule, they turned on the attack machine and cut him down both personally and professionally. It’s all we heard for a few days as Democrats and the MSM painted him as a bitter old man who has a history of being mentally unstable and everyone including the Daily Show got in on the act.

What is clear though is that the Democrats are trying desperately to save 2010 from being a complete disaster. But if they think the American people are dumb enough to fall for their insincere charades, then they deserve the slaughter that may in fact be coming. Heh, after their stand at the podium of power, they deserve it anyway.

The obvious, no blatant, disregard for the American people is both hypocritical and self serving. This is what the Progressive/Democratic party has become.

“It is the manners and spirit of a people which preserve a republic in vigor. A degeneracy in these is a canker which soon eats to the heart of its laws and constitution.” Thomas Jefferson
