Engaging at the local level is the most effective. That is how I came eye to eye with the Progressives running our local Republican party. In addition to making assumptions to make the guy more evil, you fail to understand the meaning of the words he did say.
The whole point is that the leaders of the country turned the attack into an excuse to go into a war we didn’t need to go into that wasn’t even related to the attack for their own political benefit.
It had nothing to do with the attacks, and it took our focus and support AWAY from the people who actually needed it.
Now that the rescue workers have been fighting and fighting for health care coverage for the problems they’ve had since that day.. they’ve had continuous push back and that’s closely tied into the fact that the politicians don’t appreciate what they did and because with two 10 year wars and not enough taxes coming in to even come close to paying for them.. we’re broke!

Actually, I don’t think it’s me, and it’s not really that odd.
What happened after 9/11 — and I think even people on the right know this, whether they admit it or not — was deeply shameful. Te atrocity should have been a unifying event, but instead it became a wedge issue. Fake heroes like Bernie Kerik, Rudy Giuliani, and, yes, George W. Bush raced to cash in on the horror. And then the attack was used to justify an unrelated war the neocons wanted to fight, for all the wrong reasons.
A lot of other people behaved badly. How many of our professional pundits — people who should have understood very well what was happening — took the easy way out, turning a blind eye to the corruption and lending their support to the hijacking of the atrocity?
The memory of 9/11 has been irrevocably poisoned; it has become an occasion for shame. And in its heart, the nation knows it.
