Dick Cheney: We can’t leave Afghanistan until it doesn’t pose a threat

Cheney, as you might expect, disagrees with the idea that Guantanamo serves as a recruitment tool for terrorist groups like Al Qaeda. He believes that terrorist groups respond when they respect/fear the strength of the United States.

He also talked about Afghanistan, suggesting that we can’t leave until it is no longer a threat. He cites what’s happened since the last time we turned out attention away from Afghanistan – a civil war; the Taliban taking over; Bin Laden training over 20k terrorist – and says that our objective must be to get Afghanistan to the point where the Afghans can defend their own territory and guarantee it won’t be used that way again:
