Fareed Zakaria: Obama good. Netanyahu bad.

Jeez. This clip is so full of crap I almost don’t know where to begin. First Zakaria pronounces that Obama didn’t do anything wrong or different from any other president has done in the last 20 years by stating that Israel should accept the 1967 borders. Of course he ignores the letter that both Congress and the President sent to Israel in 2004 that stated:

In light of new realities on the ground, including already existing major Israeli population centers, it is unrealistic to expect that the outcome of final status negotiations will be a full and complete return to the armistice lines of 1949.

Also from what I understand, no President has ever stated before the world that Israel should go back to the 1967 borders ( or 1949 armistice lines). It was always something done behind the scenes but never as Obama did it. So yes it does indicate a change in US policy, especially given the letter that the US sent Israel over 7 years ago. But Zakaria ignores all of that.

Zakaria also doesn’t focus on the other incredibly troubling thing Obama said in his speech that will divide Israel in half for the creation of a Palestinian state, in essence destroying the state of Israel:

The United States believes that negotiations should result in two states, with permanent Palestinian borders with Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, and permanent Israeli borders with Palestine. The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states. The Palestinian people must have the right to govern themselves, and reach their potential, in a sovereign and contiguous state.

No let’s not discuss that. Netanyahu is the bogey man! Let’s talk about why he lectured Obama in a ‘bizarre tirade’ and why he is the one who doesn’t want peace. After all stoking tensions with America by lecturing Obama won’t help the peace process! He went on to say:

The real revelation, which has been picked up by many in the Israeli press, is that it shows finally that Netanyahu simply doesn’t want a deal. He always has a new objection, a new problem, a new delaying tactic because at core he has never believed that the Palestinians should have a state.

He goes back to some old footage of Netanyahu when he was 28 years old, well before he was ever Prime Minster, where he stated publicly that there should be no Palestinian state in Israel. But that was a long time ago and he’s since been Prime Minister twice. He has dealt with this problem from a leadership standpoint for a long time now and has apparently resigned his position on the issue to that of accepting a Palestinian state in Israel. He publicly stated it before Congress and the world just the other day and I think if they called him on it, they’d see he isn’t bluffing.

But to Zakaria this is just more reason that Netanyahu is the problem and not all the Muslim countries that want to destroy Israel. It’s not the coalition government of Hamas and Fatah that’s the problem. No, thousands of Iranian/Hamas rockets later it’s all Bibi’s fault.

But then what can we expect from a Muslim who clearly demonstrates his hatred of Israel in this clip. Way to go CNN for choosing diversity over the truth.
