I highly recommend The Restoration Weekend videos on David Horowitz TV. There are quite a few really good panelists and experts on the Middle East and the message is sobering for sure. We are remaining clueless it seems. CK is right. You could let them have their own nation and the violence would just continue. (All of the discussion is really good, but in response to the topic I talk about those videos...they begin on the second or third page...well worth a rainy day)
You can't undo 1000 years of cultural history. The Arab Spring and "democracy in the Middle East" that the Obamabots and the neocons talk about is a load of crock.
It's a horrible reason to go to war. Ghaddafi and Mubarak, say what we want about them, kept their region from becoming an Islamic theocracy.
Ok, I'll take a whack at that.
1. Enough to have his name legally changed to Sweetie?
2. Enough to force him into a red dye#2/sugar coma?
3. Enough to make every kid from the 70's shout, "Hey Kool-aid Man"?
4. Enough to cover every square inch of his skin with condensation?
5. Enough to where I look upon him with condescension?

Speaking of avian. I grew up in Myrtle Beach and we (me and my little brother) put a bunch of bread crumbs out in the street one fine Sping day, all around one which was on a hook attached to some line which I was holding. A seagull swooped down and grabbed some, then several started swooping and grabbing. One got the piece attached to the hook and I had a kite! True story.
We finally got him free and he flew off. We never did that again.
I'm curious to know when Bill Kristol began using recreational drugs, because his capacity for reasoning seems to have dropped to nil. Who can forget the wrath and abuse he heaped upon Glenn Beck when Beck dared to suggest the reforming of the Caliphate?
BTW, State Department spokesman Mark Toner seems to have thrown King Abdullah of Jordan under the bus in recent days. This will be bad for him, imho, and for Israel. Abdullah is western-educated and seems a moderate man. He's doomed now that DOS has given him the Mubarak treatment.
Bill Kristol was gone along time ago. He's now voicing opinions that he held for many years like raising taxes on the so-called rich - people earning $250,000 a year in the New York metropolitan area live like middle class Americans. Kristol just kept his mouth shut long enough to make millions selling the Weekly Standard.

Krauthammer is absolutely correct. Has Kristol read any history or has he had his head in the sand while editing The Weekly Standard? Kristol is a weak stick if I've ever seen one.

Umm...democracies don't promote individual rights.
That is why democracy has largely failed in the middle east. They don't understand the individual freedom part...only the part that if they get enough votes they get their way.
The US is a Republic, with laws that (once) protected human life and rights, freedom of religion, free speech, property, etc. We now have laws that encroach on rights and destroy life, enable us to break all of GOD's higher law, the Ten Commandments and some that would force us to do so. Obama is systematically and intentionally destroying law and order, freedom and rights of religious conscience. He and his communist handlers are the enemy of US Constitutional law, human rights and freedom.
Kristol's been in the Bubble too long. He needs to take a burro ride to the bottom of Grand Canyon and then climb his way out on his own two feet. Maybe that would be enough to sweat the Beltway out of his system. *Or* maybe this is who he really is and always has been.
Who cares what Bill says. he is an intellectual lightweight living off of the capital of his father Irving. Dr. K is not much better usually pontificating with 20-20 hindsight. We should be listening to people like Palin and DeMint who expressed scepticism from the beginning about deposing Mubarak and intervening in Libya. And yes Bush and the neocons are naive believing we can change a thousand years of cultural history by force of arms and a kind and gentle occupation.

Islam is a theocracy. If our voted representatives actually did their homework, they would know that and adjust their policies accordingly. But... they're too consumed with PC to notice reality.
I believe Krauthammer is right and it's what I've been saying was going to happen all along....as soon as the Muslim Brotherhood put up a candidate after they said they wouldn't. I believe this is exactly what Obama wants, because he believes that America has too much power and the muslims don't have enough. Very easy to dupe the ignorant left who believed democracy was the end result, and still incredibly believe it.
Didn't Kristol support the so-called Arab Spring? Wasn't he one of the voices out there telling the rest of us loons on the right to calm down and get off the Muslim Brotherhood bandwagon? I do believe I am correct, but let me know. If I am correct, then his opinion on this matter is null and void. I may not always agree with Krauthammer's take on things, but he is usually pretty good on foreign issues like this. He wasn't one of those supporting that Spring thing too, was he? I don't remember. Geez, I hope not.
You are spot on, Constance. He is completely out of touch with reality with respect to the MB and Islam in general. I don't recall what CK may have said at the time, but I distinctly remember Kristol saying Beck was nuts when he said it was the start of the caliphate.
Krauthammer is right. Historically speaking, revolutions have mostly been corrupted. Some power hungry people are always sitting in the background pulling strings and manipulating naive people into surrendering their revolution to new dictators. By the time they realize that they have been conned, it's too late and the tyrants have consolidated power.
Obama, Clinton, and the other people in that administration who got us into this mess really believed that all they had to do was click their heals and wish democracy onto Egypt and it would be so. Never mind that the country never had either a history or an inclination for democracy as long as Egypt has been around for the past, oh, 3,000 years. Never mind that the Muslim Brotherhood, the organization that killed Sadat and spawned literally thousands of terrorists and Islamic radicals, was poised to take over the country. And never mind that the man currently running Egypt not only hates Israel and the United States, but actually wanted to set up a commission trying to prove that 9/11/2001 was a fake. Never mind all of that. Obama and Clinton were just certain that democracy would magically take over in Egypt as soon as Mubarak was thrown under the bus.
So I guess they were wrong. We are trying to force democracy onto countries that never had it, never wanted it, and have absolutely no history in trying to achieve it. Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, all of them are now falling back to dictators, only now these dictators are very anti-American, anti-Israel, anti-west, and want to embrace a legal system that has Sharia Law as its foundation. And who only knows what the collapse of Syria and soon Jordan will bring. Good going, Obama and Clinton. You broke the Middle East, now you try and fix it. Good luck with that. Now the world is stuck with your mistakes.
Gotta agree with Charles on this one, except his "if the administration had". What he should have said is if the Obama administration was not complicit in this with the Muslim Brotherhood they would have...................
They won't trust Democracy anymore either. That's something the Brotherhood wants to achieve as well.
A nation can't go forward with Islam/Sharia law forced upon them...
Egyptians are going to learn a very harsh lesson, that wherever Islam spreads, freedom dies.
If Egypt is headed towards democracy they are headed in a different direction then the USA.
