It's CPAC? Big deal. CPAC gave the nod to Romney for God's sake. How conservative is that? Not very.
For those wanting more in-depth technical information about the Gingrich campaign:
I guess I've never seen any of his other CPAC speeches. Maybe it's worth repeating for that reason?
???? Was I hearing right? Did part of the audience boo him? Waht he said was great - too bad he can't be trusted to tell us the truth. If he does get the nomination our only hope is that he learned his lesson and saw the light and really does everything he said in this speech. That would be a success, but again can we trust him?
I love this speech. It was very uplifting. Great job, Newt. Please continue to talk about the corruption in our government. I work in grassroots and people are very angry about this and please confront Obama's unconstitutional actions.
Here is a follow up video interview after the CPAC speech when Newt talks to reporters:

MAXINE YOUR EXACTLY RIGHT, NEWT GINGRICH CAN DO AND WILL DO JUST AS HE SAYS, HE WILL NOT BOW TO DEMS.
This guy makes it all so simple and clear. So many people think this issue is dead in the water, and excoriated Newt over mentioning it until they made Newt the bad guy. I will pass it on. Thanks!
He means Santorum. Compare their platforms. This is another thing that ticks me off about Santorum. He sits there claiming to be the True Conservative in the race, but yet his platform is quite tepid, at best. He does not offer a flat tax of any kind. He keeps the same exact structure we have in place. A progressive tax structure that, albeit, will be lowered, but doesn't solve any problems or makes any serious reform. He does not offer a flat reduction of corporate taxes (instead, keeping some higher, lowering for "favored" industries), he is tepid on social security privatization, and so on and so forth.
Santorum literally has nothing special about his campaign, other than his ability to lie or distort every one elses ideas.
Did anyone else notice the annoying background talking on the video? What was ABC doing this on purpose?
So it was Newt's stump speech. It was a darn fine speech and I am happy to hear it again. Who has a plan as comprehensive as Newt's? Who else demonstrates such a thorough understanding of so many issues? I'm encouraged by the reception of his speech at CPAC, and I enjoyed hearing him target "the Republican establishment" even more than usual.
I disagree as Vice President Newt wouldn't be able to dismantle Obama's destruction on the first day. Santorum would be an excellent choice for VP. Newt could fix the judicial system which is vital to the American republic.
Oh, oops, I meant he would sign a bill that he will ask congress to have ready by his inauguration. I am making all kinds of mistakes tonight, sorry.
We agree, somewhat. Gingrich has the most clear-cut (well articulated) conservative plan out of all the candidates to date though. I have to defend him on that fact. I like what Santorum has said since his resurgence as well. I must say Santorum says lots of great things but he needs to emphasize that he is going to repeal or abolish ObamaCare in his message to us. We know Gingrich will, his strongest point is that on day 1 he will sign an executive order to repeal (kill) ObamaCare. As we saw in past elections generalities and platitudes are nice but not a plan presented to the people. We need to hear substance and how each candidate will fix the problem, Not Unicorns and Rainbows, or as The Messiah said 'Hope and Change'.
NEWT IS THE BEST OF OUR CANDIDATES/SANTORIUM SHOULD TAKE A PAGE FROM HIS BOOK, IT MIGHT HELP HIM, ALL SANTORIUM CAN DO IS CRITIZE, ITS A NEW DAY, SANTORIUM'S RECORD SPEAKS FOR HIM AND ROMMNEY HAS NEVER BEEN IN WASHINGTON, SEEMS TO ME THE ONE WHO HAS THE MOST ANSWERS FOR OUR NATION IS NEWT GINGRICH. THAT SHOULD BE WHAT EVER AMERICAN LOOKING FOR
You're probably right nibbles... I just haven't gotten past the Carol Brady facade. She just doesn't ring warm, fuzzy, or sincere bells for me... I like my women a little more brazen & shoot-from-the-hip. I guess that's why I'll never be First Lady though, eh? LOL!
I saw the intro - she was still a little plastic-y for my taste. She really should just stand by her man & smile & clap for him, IMO. I don't mean to be snarky about her - it was just a little awkward.
I think Newt is most inspiring when he's in combat with the media or the liberals. When he's preaching to the choir, he seems a little disappointing because our expectations are set SO HIGH. However, he still articulates Conservatism extremely well - or should I say, severely well. :) (if you haven't looked at the other posts on TRS today, check it out!)
Here's how the media interpreted it:
The Hill: "Gingrich struggles to revive campaign with speech to faithful"
Hot Air: "Gingrich speech gets conservatives cheering"
The usual "Newt struggles" meme from The Hill. Uh, yea. 'Struggles' to contain his disdain for websites like The Hill.
True, RS. I guess that's the hazard of following "too" closely? Still, they are good points and important that they are heard by all. (+Look what happened when he spoke to the Space Coast people, :jumps up & down, waving arms: ZOMG!! He's ZANY! ERRATIC! idiots)
(hope not OT...just saw a third source- IBD, forget the first, & now Kudlow saying that Adelson is going to cut off the funding. The place I saw it re Kudlow, mentioned the investigation into Adelson's Macau casinos by the DOJ & the SEC. WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot?
This is getting extremely creepy if true)
I have a defective photographic memory. I can remember an image perfectly and hold it for a long time. But, after I use it, say in a test, it stops mattering to me and the image can never be recalled again. Repetition is indeed the best way to learn.
I agree with you 100% capelady! I may be letting the euphoria of having Santorum and Gingrich both still in the race get to me. I am very happy we have choices this time around; I should wait and judge for myself. Will update when I get home.
The key to winning the race is really in offering solutions. Note how Cain surged with his 999 plan. If conservatives didn't have a stick up their butt and had a pair, we could have had a great candidate in Cain. He didn't get the support he needed to stand the constant drumbeat and attacks. When even Allen West starts bad mouthing you on radio, it's freakin over. That was our sin. Not his weakness.
Anyway.. The best thing Newt can do is keep on keeping on with bold ideas and presenting a vision for the country. Platitudes could work, but bold ideas are better.
I reserve the right to change my mind...lol! I like Newt very much and hope he comes back in a big way. I think he has the best plan too, he articulates it very well. I was just thinking (after I saw Rubio last night) that Newt could come out and fire people up in a similar way. Maybe Scoop was wrong but usually I see eye to eye with his assesments. I will know when I see the speech. I didn't mean to offend anyone.
The point is what could he change and not say exactly what he wants to say even if it's repeat.
We're all political fanatics that come to Scoop so of course we've heard it before. Although I sometimes wonder if some of the ones who come here actually listen to what he has to say.
It was a great speech. I get your point but what else did you think he should say? He listed our biggest issues and gave his solutions one by one. At the end he did get some digs in on Obama but I don't think he wanted to be overly negative.
I agree, I felt like I heard it before, it didn't really fire me up like it did others... That's okay, nothing against Newt for me. I felt it started off slow, but towards middle and end it found his groove. Still I think none of the speeches are going really affect things that much.
Cringing here, if you think that Scoop I’m sure I will be disappointed too. I was hoping Newt would use this format to hit a grand slam and start his comeback. I can't watch it yet because I am at work. I will check it out when I get home. Newt probably hurt himself if he just brings out the same old speech, not good. I'm not sure what he is thinking when he makes big mistakes like this. Santorum looks like my guy the way this thing is unfolding.
1.) What does it say about the other candidates when Newt's slightly modified stump speech is more inspiring and generates more applause?
2.) I'm sure if Newt changed his message in a major way (i.e., wrote a CPAC-specific speech), we'd quickly hear cries of "erratic" and "zany" from his opponents.
