Glenn Beck said the comedy portion of the Rally to Restore Sanity was terrible and likened to a high school production. In fact he said it was so bad he thought he must’ve been in the tribulation waiting for the second coming of Christ.

To be clear, he said the message and music portions were very good, but the comedy portions were terrible…just terrible.

Enjoy!

Beck was correct about the comedy part. I disagree about it being likened to a high school production though. It never came close to high school level. It was so childish I kept watching for Pee Wee Herman to join them.

Nick Gillespie at Reason magazine said it best: “This rally reminds me of a stage show at a water park.”

Colbert was/is painful ! When he came out in his Captain America suit, that was it for me.

Did it cover up his funked up ear? Do us all a favor and get that hideous thing surgically fixed.

It was his own damn fault. He was busy pissing on the Washington and Lincoln Memorials…

RWG (the Alamo wasn’t big enough for him)

Jon Stewart was rather clever, crafty in making his rally more of a rock show, comedy show, free entertainment than anything else. Had he just had political speeches, patriotism, and all the other things that distinguished the Glen Beck rally, it is likely that far less people would have attended. Clearly, Stewart recognized that he needed an extra advantage, a lure, an enticement to ensure a competitive attendance. Still, the Glen Beck rally was not only unadulterated and 40% larger, the attendees did not need a single superficial lure … because they were there for the sole purpose of, “Restoring (American) Honor.” They did not need a single distraction, nor a single freebie, nor a bit of entertainment because they were not there for selfish gain… they were exclusively motivated by the patriotic duty to stand up for American values, and reclaim our diminishing sovereignty.

Incidentally, I am neither a Glen Beck, nor Jon Stewart viewer.

could be summed up like this:

      8/28: Love America Rally
      10/2: Hate America Rally
      10/30: “What’s America?” Rally

    I didn’t watch it so I don’t get what he’s talking about.

    Was it really that bad?

Uh, it was pretty lame with a few surprises. Most skits were too long or too wrong.

Really could have been a heartfelt 3 hours with music and skits but yielded the usual liberal EPIC FAIL. Beck’s rally had a purpose you could agree with or not, and no one paid people to attend for media propaganda purposes. Stewart’s rally was for, er, uh, um, uh… and was astroturfed from the get-go.

The music was good…but that was about it. As a matter of fact, I think the musicians should be ashamed of themselves for using such amazing talent on such a ridiculous fiasco.

Jon Stewart is snobbish, pretentious, and what he says is really stupid, but it sounds sincere, so I’ll give him a pass. Colbert schtick, even on his own show, is downright cringe worthy.

They each had different messages. Stewart wanted people to support big government spending and Democratic policies, and Beck people to support less spending, less taxes, and Republican policies (as with the 0 Democrats he supports).

How will Colbert end his show in do time now that he jumped the shark. It is not like he can stop the character and do something normal, he has to be in character for a very long time after.

I was curious about the size. From everything I could find on google the liberals are claiming the Beck rally was 87,000 and John Stewarts was like 250,000. I looked for arial photos but I couldn’t find anything. I understand Beck’s rally was supposed to be 500,000 or so. So anyone here attend both and know? Its so frustrating when you can’t trust the media to report or report honestly.

there are a few pictures posted…one of them has some scale/size indications that are VERY telling. They crowded everyone up front and across so that when they took the photo from the other end it looked full all the way across the mall…problem was, when you backed the photo out, it was very apparent that the crowd came no where close to the end of the reflection pond. I think he probably drew between 120k-150k. That’s nothing to sneeze at, but let’s face it—Beck owned them all easily. Beck’s crowd was conservatively between 450k-500k just using the park police’s own measurements.

There’s another one that I thought I bookmarked (maybe via Instapundit) but I can’t find it right now that has better photo comparisons. I’ll look for it.

I’m sorry to hear that Glenn Beck doesn’t have a sense of humor, I really am.

Personally, I loved the rally. Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart were hilarious, and the keynote speech at the end was brilliant. Keep up the great work, guys!

If you truly listened to what Beck said you would know he also thought Stewart’s message was good, along with the music!

    • Tyler

I’m a fan of both Stewart AND Colbert and happened to find their skits to be rather lame in comparison to their usual stuff. I thought the awards portion was worth a couple of chuckles, but overall, I agree with Beck that the comedy just sucked.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jim-Treacher/542957672 Jim Treacher

Glenn Beck was nicer to them than I was, and had much less reason to be. Not that he’ll get credit for it, but good for him.
