Glenn Beck on Fox News Sunday on Restoring Honor

I’ve given this interview a couple of listens and I don’t think it will rank as one of Beck’s best interviews. I’ve heard some people say he was tired, and perhaps that’s true, but I don’t think that’s the entire reason for his mediocre performance.

If I had to pick one word to describe the interview, I’d say it was ‘defensive’. Now understandably he’s been relentlessly attacked and his words have been taken out of context to suggest this was about racial politics; about the color of someone’s skin. But if you’ve ever actually listened to Beck even for a short time you know that isn’t even remotely true. Because of that I believe that Beck has been on the defensive for a while, and it showed in this interview and in my opinion it took away from his own effectiveness in conveying his answers.

For example, when he was asked about the message that the politicians are supposed to get from the American people, I felt he kind of muddled that answer. He spoke in vague overtones that I dont think most people will connect with. See, Beck fully understands that the problems we have in our country run so deep that only returning to God can repair our country. It starts though with repairing us as individuals. When we begin to live lives full of faith, overflowing with faith, then it changes us at our core to be more like God, which is to be honorable, charitable, and graciously loving. When we become like that, we look for people who are like that to lead our country, and that is how America ‘gets fixed’. That is the answer I was expecting from Beck as to the message that is being sent to America, to our politicians, and to ourselves.

This weekend overall though was a huge success in my opinion, and I think people will grapple with this concept for a while. I can’t see the future, but turning to God in our lives is a must and when that happens I believe we will see true hope and change.
