This story reminds me of a book that I read called the Heavenly Man, where a man in China had dedicated his life to God and suffered immensely for his cause under a very oppressive communistic government – in ways that I had never imagined. I was left asking myself could I serve my God in the same way as he did, knowing full well the pain I would have to endure. It’s a tough question to answer.
Beck in a similar way had to decide whether he would speak his mind and suffer the consequences, or live in a conflicted state of knowing he would be safe but being discontent in knowing he wasn’t really doing what he knew was right. It’s a serious reminder, in my mind, to consider the cause you stand for and how much it REALLY means to you.
