Funny how that works. Maybe the question to be asked of Government and those that back the mosque,For thee but not for me? They want to squawk about violations of the First Amendment by those who oppose the location of this mosque by cherry picking and twisting the words of the Constitution to use them to silence them. All the while ignoring the fact that they are violating the very amendment they would use against those who don’t agree with them. Don’t let them fool you into allowing them to silence your exercise of Free Speech, there is nothing bigoted in expressing your opposition to the location of this mosque. There is nothing bigoted about opposing an ideology that views your rights of free speech and the protection from government interference in your right to freely practice the religious faith of your choice as an abomination. Stand your ground.

I just read the NY Times article on the subject and it seems to be a little more complicated than that. They tried rebuilding on a different nearby property and the church was apparently asking for a lot of money from the city. That didn’t fare well so the city said they could go back and build on their own place.
Then there’s something about a bomb-screening center that is supposed to be built there. All in all, if it comes down to the city refusing to publicly fund the construction of a church I would be fine with that. As long as they don’t actively prohibit the church from being built at all, I wouldn’t call them on hypocrisy.

Why is the Ground Zero Mosque getting public funding then?

Certainly it couldn’t have anything to do with the fact that Ali Bama is a closet muslim, could it? Of course it could! He isn’t going to do anything for Christians when his real object if the furthering of islam.

Well, I guess Mayor Bloomberg and Obama are going to have to make some more statements. Kinda saw this coming . . . didn’t anyone realize this would create Holy Turf Wars?
I guess now might be a good time for the Imam, Daisy and the waiter-turned-property-developer to step up and put some money where their mouths are and show their tolerance lest they look disingenuous.

Learn to read, you morons. St. Nicholas can rebuild whenever they want… they just have to pay for it themselves. There’s no hypocrisy here, just a couple of Greek Orthodox priests who think that $20 million of someone else’s money isn’t enough to build a church.

“crushed at the hands of blood thirsty, west hating Islamic terrorists” ? Whaat?
Give us a break,… most Americans have finally realised that 911 wasn’t an attack by Islamic nut jobs. The evidence that it was an operation planned and executed by an international covert group which included Americans is over whelming so at least get your facts straight if you want a sympathetic ear. The Mosque being built in the area is merely part of the US drumming up more anti-Islamic hatred. They’re clutching at straws, anything to keep the Iraq invasion going will do.
Wow. I mean wow.
Greek Orthodox leaders trying to rebuild the only church destroyed in the Sept. 11 terror attacks expressed shock this week after learning, via Fox News, that government officials had killed a deal to relocate the church.
The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, once a tiny, four-story building in the shadows of lower Manhattan, was destroyed in 2001 by one of the falling World Trade Center towers. Nobody from the church was hurt in the attack, but the congregation has, for the past eight years, been trying to rebuild its house of worship. …
Confronted with the Port Authority’s verdict, Father Mark Arey, of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, said it’s the first he’s heard that.
“Negotiations did break off last year. We were expecting to hear from their lawyers — we never did. We’re still expecting to hear from them,” he told Fox News. “We’re disappointed. … 130 Liberty Street was promised to us.”
The government didn’t even have the class to let them know first. Instead they find out 2nd hand. And of course this REAKS of hypocrisy of the government which says they want to promote religious diversity but won’t allow this church to be rebuilt that was crushed at the hands of blood thirsty, west hating Islamic terrorists. Where are you Mayor Bloomberg????
Maybe if they converted it into a mosque Mayor Bloomberg would come out in support of its rebuilding.
