I always get a little excited when I see a Gowdy clip up because I know he will nail it every time.
I agree with him. I just don't see us really being able to simply toss every illegal who is here right now. I know a lot of Conservatives want to take a hard line on it, but it's just not going to happen unless that group just sweeps the Congress.
So, the least we can get is that our elected officials do their freakin' jobs and start providing for border security. That's not asking too much.
It's impossible to get anything all the way to zero. That's no excuse for not doing something about a problem. Murder laws don't stop people from being murdered and we don't always catch them, but I would still like to have laws against murder and prosecutors to get them locked up.
I would like to secure the borders and outlaw sanctuary policies. There must be personal liability for lack of enforcement. Law enforcement must be obligated to turn over every illegal alien they process and ICE must be obligated to accept custody.
I just don't think that the entire 1,969 mile Mexican border can truly be completely 'secured' for any where near a reasonable cost, then there is always the Canadian border (5,525 miles). Maybe we need to approach this problem from another angle.
The entire length can't be secured with a physical fence but the unsecured areas certainly could be monitored using a number of higher tech options - remember the "virtual" fence they pulled the funding for early in Zero's presidency?

I love Trey Gowdy. However, the Democrats have no interest whatsoever in securing the border. Why dry up their source for future voters? Why dry up the source of future food stamp recipients? Why dry up the source of too many people overwhelming our infrastructure? Why stop a good thing for them? They won't. That's why we need to rip control of the WH and Senate away from those enemies of liberty and our sovereignty.

The borders will never be secured with Obama in office. He is ignoring current laws, why would he enforce new ones. NO AMNESTY or path to citizenship without securing the borders FIRST! What they can do now is reform the LEGAL immigration process because that has nothing to do with the borders, those people have respected our laws, paid their fees, and have been waiting for many years!!!
Although I agree with you, we have 23 million Americans unemployed and/or underemployed. That needs to be our #1 focus.
Anyone remember what Barky Boy did with border security? We the taxpayers have to defend a lawsuit by the ICE and border patrol unions because they have been ordered by the CIC to Stand Down! Illegals are flowing in, caught and released, employees disciplined and threatened with termination for following our laws. The reason the number of "deportations" is being reported as a record number is becasue they aren't just counting the number of illegals that ICE has investigated, apprehended, tried and deported, but they are counting any instance where Border Patrol agents apprehend someone who just crossed the border five minutes ago, and escorts them back across the border.
We need to be more tactical in our arguments, and challege these "reporters".

When I hear stuff like "a record increase", I'm always left skeptical, so I revert to a "well what changed from year to year?" mentaility.
Turns out it's not the security of the border that has changed, they just started adding numbers from a completely different set of figures to make it seem that way.

I think Gowdy was not aware of that, or else decided to go on the attack with regards to how very un-secure the border is. But you are right on the money; the reporter didn't do her homework, but just took WH talking points to arm herself against that GOP guy she was going to interview.

You can bet that any state with a sanctuary city or two has ginormous social service expenses. The border states are probably the worst, but any of the deep blue states has been building their "communities" for decades at taxpayer expense.

How about we quit trying to come up with an immigration policy on our own and just adopt the immigration laws of Mexico? This should solve all our problems.

He said, if we secure the borders first and get employment verification first, and if we can make sure to stop this problem from happening again in the future, THEN we will talk about what to do with existing illegals.
I didn't mean to imply that that was what he said, I was referring to what has been past experience. Don't be surprised if any "compromise" also puts the horse before the cart. Democrats will say anything to get their way, make any promises, kiss any posterior and in the end tell any lie.

Right. After Reagan's 1986 amnesty required border sealed and that we would NEVER be asked for amnesty again. This is the cycle every 20-25 years. Michelle Malkin did a great summary of the US history with amnesty grants.

Tell 'em Trey; no border security, no bill! For me, I'd like a whole lot more answers on Fast and Furious before any further discussion on immigration reform. Truth about what happened in Benghazi might even sway me further but until the borders are secured I'm not interested.
There will be no more on Fast and Furious. Issa had last week's hearing postponed on the civil contempt so they could play Let's Make a Deal with Holder. The same will be true with Benghazi. There are other distractions now, illegal alien amnesty, gun control (violation of our 2nd Amendment rights), then we'll have the next round of debt and budget games.

Yes. He was very clear when he was appointed to the House Committee that he would ensure the rule of law was followed. Amnesty is not the rule of law.
I like you too Scoop and respect your viewpoints. Gowdy is following in Reagan's footprints on illegal alien amnesty. Gowdy previously said that illegal aliens were not receiving federal benefits. Well that isn't true either. They are also receiving state benefits and my taxes in MN are going up AGAIN to pay for them.

By the time they vote Scoop, it's all over. These pols need to be held accountable before any vote. They also need to focus on the Fast and Furious and Benghazi investigations where people were murdered and being the impeachment process for Barky's continued violation of federal law, including EO amnesty for illegal aliens.
Amnesty is not the rule of law. He swore an oath to the US Constitution not to popular opinion of constituents. If this country were ruled that way, we would have no rights.
He hasn't even voted on it yet, nor did he commit to any specific position. All he did was tell the interviewer what his constituents told him.
