Herman Cain at SRLC

I brought you Herman Cain’s speech back at CPAC because it was a truly great speech. And the same is true now. But when you watch this speech, you should watch it with this context: Herman Cain is going to run in 2012 for President. He tells us that at the end in the form of a hint, but I think he just announced his candidacy.

Enjoy:

Nice story about the bumblebee that can't fly. Except it's complete bull. Wikipedia lists the story as a folklore myth. There's no way his musings about windtunnels and Phd students is taken from reality.
And the statement that bumblebees fly only because they believe they can fly is really daring. I realize that it is probably only metaphoric but still. I don't like politicians who believe we can bend the laws of physics by 'believing'.

  • chaswv

    ndes:

You answered your own criticism, so I guess I am piling on. Excellent metaphor to make a completely truthful point. Jimmy Carter/Barak Obama are the professors. They insist that it cannot be done. In 1980 the bumblebee was RWR. Whom shall it be in 2012?

  • ndes

When I said it could be a metaphor I was only referring to the idea that bumblebees can fly because they believe they can. The other part clearly wasn't metaphoric. He flat out stated that he learned in college that the bumblebee can't fly by matemathic and aerodynamic laws. So either he had a lousy teacher who taught hearsay or he didn't learn that.

  • texasgirl46

Very good speech…liked it, liked it a lot…

  • poptoy1949

Lighten up. It was suppose to be enthusiastic. No big deal.

  • poptoy1949

Let's just hope is is not the Kenyan.

  • Tyler

Ya know…that WOULD be pretty cool if he ran in 2012. I guess we'll have to see.

Meanwhile, to answer ndes' criticism of the bumblebee anecdote…believing that one can bend the laws of physics just by “believing,” isn't any more crazy than believing that there's a “Heaven” for good people and a “Hell” for bad people.

He gave the most passionate speech at the SRLC. We know he believes in following the Constitution; something our politicians have not been doing. They could learn quite a few things from Herman Cain.

  • jft13

Superman CAN FLY! —let's go with Herman CAIN !! NOW and LATER TOO!

  • jft13

Well done! Let US follow the lead of Herman CAIN, now for 2010 and also in 2012~

  • ndes

Yes it is, one is contradicted by empirical evidence, the other is just up in the air.

  • rsfan000

Wow… I hope this guy runs for president…. Come on republican leadership. Promote this guy.

  • m_quick

He kind of lost me with the bumblebee thing, but who cares.

Does he have the right ideas about government? You bet he does. He could say he rides to work everyday on a unicorn and I wouldn't care.

The truth is that if our minds were able to evolve more, then we could probably do a number of things that aren't possible now…so…they're both up in the air truthfully.

  • Tyler

Ron Paul's actually had it right much longer than anyone else and all those things he was called a “crazy kook” for came true. His speech wasn't as passionate as Cain's, but he had it truly on the spot. You can't just pick and choose in limited government if you want to bring this ever-increasing deficit to a halt and save us from the mess we're in.

  • leel004

Hey Scoop, can you pull the speech from the CPAC and let us hear that one too? The more info and speeches, the better for us to get to know him.
    Aloha and God bless,
    Lois
PS Tyler, if the evidence of the Word and the Shroud are not enough evidence for you, then there is a proverb saying ….it is better to believe and die findng nothing, than to not believe and die, finding there is.

Well, my point is that they're both equally crazy ideas.

  • Tyler

The only problem with your proverb is that same mindset has been used to try and convert me multiple times in my life. If I am a God-fearing man solely out of fear and I am not a good person because I want to out of the goodness of my own heart, then am I really going to be ascended when my time comes?

That's why I prefer to believe in God outside of organized religion and scriptures written by man. I've found plenty of emperical evidence that God exists and that I have a purpose or I would have died a long time ago. So, I'm not aimlessly wondering on this Earth and I have no fear of what will happen because in the mysterious way of the divine, I have already been assured that as long as I strive to be a good person and do good upon others the best that I am able to, then I will not need to worry about my fate when my physical body dies.

all people are bad…they have to be taught to be good. In Christianity, no one goes to hell for being bad, they go to hell for denying God. Feel free to not believe that, it's fine…but at least, if you're going to represent Christianity or Judaism in that way, try to be theologically correct–and then make fun of it;)

  • jd73

What kind of empirical evidence have you found?

Obama must stop being a professor and become a statesman with better focused eyes, and surrond himself with statesman.

Sounds to me like the dream Republican team for 2012 would be Palin/Cain or Cain/Palin. Either way, it's sad commentary on the level to which what was once the Grand Old Party has sunk over the past 20-30 years. Mr. Cain would do well, if he truly believes in being informed, to read and think outside the pronouncements of those who think like him. What American needs now is someone with the vision, the brains, the skills, and, above all, the heart to lead ALL of us into a brighter future. In a phrase, this guy ain't it.

    Dear ndes:

If, in reality, they were comparing the bee in the wind tunnel to the aerodynamics of fixed wing flight, the story is indeed true. Bee's don't use fixed wing lift.

The analogy to today's political situation is that democrats don't understand how to fix underlying problems. They look at the wrong things and offer the wrong solutions. Much like the bumblebee example. How the wings move and the speed at which they move is the real issue. Costs control through private competition is the solution…not government control of healthcare. I.E. Analogous to looking at the wrong model for flight. The bumblebee believes he can fly because…(a) he is doing it…and (b) it “knows” this because the model he lives under is valid…not unscientific, unthinking, or unsound. It's not because he “believes it” therefore I fly…he flys…therefore he believes it.

    You guys crack me up.

Don't let the mispelling of “flies” turn you off. lol

  • gingersnap11

ndes, Check your facts – from Oxford University:
The old myth that ‘bumblebees shouldn’t be able to fly’ was based on calculations using the aerodynamic theory of 1918-19, just 15 years after the Wright brothers made the first powered flight. These early theories suggested that bumblebee wings were too small to create sufficient lift but since then scientists have made huge advances in understanding aerodynamics and how different kinds of airflow can generate lift.

So? What did I get wrong? Unless Cain went to college 80-90 years ago he still couldn't have learned it. And there sure as hell were no supercomputers.

  • rickaprentice

Experience, Integrity, Values, Leadership………Herman Cain 2012….. A Real American!!

  • molon_labe

Aerodynamically, the F16 should not be able to fly either. It only flies because an on-board computer keeps it aerodynamically stable.

It was an analogy to prove a point. BELIEVE!!!

Dr., Obama is, pure and simple, an ideologue. His radical ideas are born of a core belief in socialist, black liberation theological, totalitarian rule of the people “for their own good.” The mere idea of capitalism as facilitator of freedom is something he finds repugnant because he and those he consorts with have never been capitalists ideologically. Therefor, Obama the narcissist professor will NEVER be a statesman… even if he were to president for life. All of his ideas are extracted from socialist/communist models without the benefit of reading or experiencing conservative values. Obama is a statist who will never be a statesman or surround himself with anyone who contradicts or criticizes his myopic determination to make the USA into a socialist, totalitarian state within a global family of nations.

The bumblebees-can't-fly calculation is from the 1930s. It was in the 1990s that scientists figured out how bumblebees manage the trick. See this article: http://www.physics.org/featuredetail.asp?id=32 — that 60-year period includes Cain's time in college (mine too).

You can’t say that. Righteousness is as filthy rags in the sight of a holy God. Your own actions can not save you. You have to look at Jesus Christ on the cross. He saved us from all unrighteousness. He alone is the is the way to Heaven. I say this out of concern, don’t take it the wrong way please. Please consider this.
