Herman Cain leads new WSJ/NBC poll

The Cain Train has moved firmly to the front of the pack. Earlier today it was reported that he was leading strongly in a new PPP poll. Now, a new WSJ/NBC poll also puts Herman Cain in the lead:

POLITICO – The WSJ/NBC poll that just came out shows yet another frontrunner in a fluid race: Herman Cain.

Cain is leading the national poll with 27 percent. Mitt Romney gets 23 percent, Rick Perry gets 16 percent, according to early numbers.

The numbers mean that Cain had a massive gain, almost all at Perry’s expense, in the last six weeks. Perry had been flying high at 38 percent in the last poll.

Cain had been at 5 percent in the last WSJ/NBC poll.

Of the second-tier, Ron Paul gets 11 percent, Newt Gingrich gets 8 percent, Michele Bachmann gets 5 percent and Jon Huntsman gets 3 percent.

Few people in the establishment think Cain, who has no campaign infrastructure and has stayed mostly out of the early states promoting his book, will be the nominee. But the focus on him will now grow, as will the scrutiny.

The poll, which surveyed 1,000 adults, was conducted from Oct. 6-10.
