Herman Cain: My plan to not raise the debt ceiling won’t work

Herman Cain has been adamant in the past that Congress shouldn’t make a deal to raise the debt limit, but today on Fox News Sunday he admitted that his plan to not raise the debt ceiling wont work now because Congress has allowed the situation to become a disaster. I have to wonder why he would give that plan as an answer in the first place. If he believes that the debt limit ideally shouldn’t be raised, then OK. But idealism and practicality must meet somewhere and up to this point I haven’t heard Cain suggesting they should make a deal for any reason whatsoever. In fact just the opposite.

He said just the other day that “I wouldn’t raise it. I would force the hard discipline now.” That’s a completely different answer than what he said today.

And lastly on this point, he never should have admitted on live TV that his plan that he’s been touting won’t work. He’s just given his competitors the easiest campaign commercial evah!

He also gave the same non answer on Afghanistan that he gave in the debate. For me this is unacceptable. I need some sense of direction from Cain on what he thinks about Afghanistan – why we should or shouldn’t be there and a sense of what he thinks about how we are currently fighting it. I’m not asking him to give me specifics, but just a general idea about it. This business-man-approach-to-solving-problems answer isn’t going to cut it. Men and women are putting their lives on the line for this country and I need to know what his gut tells him about Afghanistan. If he can’t offer me that, even with conditions, then I’m not sure he’s the candidate for me.

You guys know I love Herman Cain but this interview exposed weaknesses that his competitors will quickly exploit. I sincerely hope that he can overcome these weakness soon because if he doesn’t, I’m afraid he won’t make it too far in this election.
