He put that "slander" comment ahead of the, "of course" qualifiers that he allows to go with it.
It's not a statement of principle when you do it that way. You state the principle first. Then you pointedly remind folks about intolerance being a double-edged sword, and you make sure the ones who are killing people over this are singled out for harsh criticism.
You don't put some appeasing language first—or as Obama did, state your preference—and then append some qualifiers after it to seemingly include others. That is the way of a tyrant: to be seen magnanimously including others in his initial proposition.
If Obama was an actual American, he would lead with the fact that each human's rights are unalienable, and then proceed logically from there.

Barack Hussein Obama continues to prop up Islam while declaring war on Catholic institutions and thus war on Christians in general. This from a man claiming to be a Christian yet his "deeds" prove otherwise in my opinion. Obama is waging war on religious liberty in America and promotes anti-Christian values e.g. abortion, fiscal irresponsibility, infanticide, class warfare, racial animosity, reckless behavior, divisiveness, and "bows" to those who hate freedom and liberty and then punishes our allies and friends. Obama props up Islam and at the same time appeases Muslim radicals like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran and Muhammad Morsi of Egypt.
Remember that Obama said the "sweetest sound he ever heard" was the Muslim call to prayer. Praying, no doubt, for the destruction of Israel and the United States, amongst other atrocities... like the extinction of Western Civilization... instigated by Islamic fundamentalists hell-bent on conquering the world and "killing" all infidels i.e. anyone who isn't a Muslim, by all means possible. That's what Muhammad, the so-called prophet, commanded his followers to do according to the Qu'ran... Fight for Allah and those who won't convert to Islam and/or pay the jizya tax... are to be annihilated.
Islam is the religion of "intolerance", "violence" and "hatred", not peace. Yet Obama seems to be doing everything in his power to try and promote this violent and intolerant religion. Most moderate Muslims are afraid to speak out against Islamic extremism because if they do their own lives would be put in danger and death could be a very distinct possibility for themselves and their families, if indeed, they tried to speak out against their radical Islamic cohorts.
Listen to what Obama said: "The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam." The truth is fundamental Islam seeks to "kill" all infidels (regardless of whether they slander the prophet of Islam or not). Islam seeks to conquer the world for Islam's Allah. Radical Islam treats everyone who isn't a Muslim as an "infidel" plain and simple. Obama's words are simply compounding the problem throughout the Middle East, and elsewhere, because Muslims will continue "killing" those who slander the prophet of Islam because shariah anti-blasphemy laws demand that they do so. Obama is essentially buying into the argument that if people "slander the prophet of Islam" their lives will indeed be placed in jeopardy because retribution will be forthcoming by the adherers of radical Islam.
Obama is simply reinforcing the edict of radical Islam to slaughter those who slander their prophet. In effect, Obama is giving radical Muslims more impetus to "kill" those who slander the prophet of Islam because Obama said: "The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam." Whether knowingly or unknowingly, Obama has encouraged Muslim extremists to continue "killing" those who slander Muhammad, the prophet of Islam.
Is it any wonder why millions of Americans view Obama as an anti-American radical demagogue who constantly "bows" to our enemies and at the same time "punishes" our allies and friends? This speech simply reinforces the perception that Obama is pro-Islamic (while at the same time anti-Catholic and thus an antagonist toward Christianity itself) and he's also willing to appease Muslim 'extremists' e.g. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Muhammad Morsi etc., in his apparent quest to increase the recognition of Islam and the spread of Islam worldwide. While at the same time diminishing the role of the United States of America on the world stage by relegating America to a secondary role and position within the international community. I fully believe that Barack Obama wants America to lose its premier role as the number one superpower in the world. Obama wants a "weakened" America and a "gutted" military. His socialist policies are "destroying" the country. His incompetent administration continues to strangle the US economy and Obama has NO intention of reining in his insane spending policies that are most assuredly bankrupting the United States of America at breakneck speed and making America (because of Obama) the laughingstock of the whole world.
This degenerate in the WH is willing to go as low as pond scum to cow-tow to the terrorists!!! Ahmadinejad should be BANNED from coming to our country!!!!!! United States should relocate the United Nations to a country like France!!! Then our tax-paying dollars wouldn't be obligated to protect garbage like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know I'm going to get slammed for this one, but folks this particular sound bite listened to from beginning to end had nothing we should disagree with. He slammed hallacaust deniers and Christ haters just as much as those who slam "the phrophet of Islam". There are plenty more quotes we can pick on this traitor for, but I don't think this is one of them. I also know that these words don't conform to his actions. If you can possibly believe that the vitriol is just "for vitriol's sake," then you need to open your eyes to what is happening.
Obama is magnanimously allowing others to share in the special status he reserves for Muslims&mdsah;the privilege of having a "prophet" who is above criticism— at the beginning of his comments. That is the method all enslavers use to trick the slaves into thinking they have value: you pretend to grant them special protection and or privilege.
The American Moment is the first time in human history that a country was formed on the notion that each and every man and woman comes into this world with unalienable rights. Only a tyrant believes he can decide what rights people have, and it is a tyrant you see in this speech.
We do not, in fact, have to stop ourselves from speaking out about Islam or anything else, to have a "future." So to H*** with this lying sack of human debris, and to H*** with anyone else who claims we must be silent.

A muslim hears something completely different. The muslims know that we are compassionate and trusting fools.
Most Christians, Jews and atheists would simply see UN Blasphemy law as a sort of fair, polite gesture of respect to others, but we would never abuse it to remove the free speech of another. We just do not think that way (except Progressives).
But muslims see this just as all tyrants and despots have. Control of free speech. For centuries, the muslims have perfected the art of crafting blasphemy laws to eliminate free speech. By lawyer, by sword or bomb - they do it. They know that they cannot implement Sharia without first implementing a blasphemy law.
