[UPDATE: EMPLOYEE FIRED] Voice on ABC News open mic says Romneys ‘happy to have party with black people drowning’

***UDPATE: YAHOO FIRED EMPLOYEE WHO MADE REMARKS***

This really is stunning. Newsbusters caught the following from the ABC News live stream of last night’s RNC coverage, which is still posted on YouTube:

Hey John, feel free to say it, they’re not concerned at all. [crosstalk] They are happy to have a party with black people drowning. [laughter]

Listen for yourself. It’s at the very beginning of ABC News live stream posted on YouTube and it doesn’t last but a few seconds:

Stunning isn’t it?

UPDATE: The voice behind the offensive comment was that of David Chalian and he worked for Yahoo News. Yahoo promptly fired him once he was identified:

“David Chalian’s statement was inappropriate and does not represent the views of Yahoo!. He has been terminated effective immediately. We have already reached out to the Romney campaign, and we apologize to Mitt Romney, his staff, their supporters and anyone who was offended.”
