I Still Trust Sarah Palin

I know there are alot of Sarah Palin haters out there.  They were born in August of 2008 and have been going through puberty for their entire lame existence.  I am not one of them, but I am also not what is know as a Palanista.  There are certainly other presidential choices that I find more attractive right now, but I would gladly vote for Sarah if she were the conservative choice.

Now there’s an awful lot of opinion on Sarah since she announced her resignation on Friday, some good and some bad (you can search for the bad yourselves).  Even my initial thought on her announcement was that it would be difficult for me to cast a vote for her knowing that she quit before finishing her first term as governor.  But after mulling it over the weekend while reading other opinions, here’s mine.

First, I do accept the notion that she is actually trying to do what is best for Alaska by resigning.  Whether apparent or not from her resignation speech or simply from other comments from people who know her, Sarah has spent not only half a million on lawyer fees while being attacked relentlessly, but far to many hours defending herself and her office.  I believe her brother said that she and staff from her office have spent something like 80% of their time trying to defend against these ethics complaints.  Now that seems rather high, but if it’s true then I simply cannot blame her for handing off the baton to someone less controversial who can run the state with the people’s confidence.  One simply can’t govern effectively when they only have 20% of their time to work for the people.

Given the above, the bigger reason that I would still vote for Sarah Palin is that it is clear to me that she is not one of the Washington elites who only work for reelection and riches.  I can’t tell you how angry I get when I see people like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd make all their ‘get rich and reelected’ deals at the expense of the people.  Barack Obama never did anything for Chicago, and he only loves unions because they are a huge constituent base.  I honestly don’t believe, despite his rhetoric, that he gives a rats ass for anybody that can’t give him a dollar.  Sometimes I wish we could just scrap Washington and start all over.  So when I see someone like Sarah Palin who has fought corruption and won, who seems to truly have a heart of compassion for the people who have elected her, then I am running to the polls as fast as I can.

I admit that she hasn’t come out as an intellectual heavy weight, but she certainly isn’t stupid either as many would have you believe.  Need I remind you that your own current president stated that we have 57 states and has trouble thinking on his feet when his teleprompter quits working.  That’s a far cry different than not answering a question about magazines.  In fact, there’s no way she would have been able to accomplish all that she has done if she were truly not capable of holding office.

So when it comes down to it, people like Sarah Palin are the ones we need in office.  They say sunshine is the greatest disinfectant, and the only way that we are going to fix Washington is to open then curtains and vote people like Sarah Palin in office.
