I know there are alot of Sarah Palin haters out there.  They were born in August of 2008 and have been going through puberty for their entire lame existence.  I am not one of them, but I am also not what is know as a Palanista.  There are certainly other presidential choices that I find more attractive right now, but I would gladly vote for Sarah if she were the conservative choice.

Now there’s an awful lot of opinion on Sarah since she announced her resignation on Friday, some good and some bad (you can search for the bad yourselves).  Even my initial thought on her announcement was that it would be difficult for me to cast a vote for her knowing that she quit before finishing her first term as governor.  But after mulling it over the weekend while reading other opinions, here’s mine.

First, I do accept the notion that she is actually trying to do what is best for Alaska by resigning.  Whether apparent or not from her resignation speech or simply from other comments from people who know her, Sarah has spent not only half a million on lawyer fees while being attacked relentlessly, but far to many hours defending herself and her office.  I believe her brother said that she and staff from her office have spent something like 80% of their time trying to defend against these ethics complaints.  Now that seems rather high, but if it’s true then I simply cannot blame her for handing off the baton to someone less controversial who can run the state with the people’s confidence.  One simply can’t govern effectively when they only have 20% of their time to work for the people.

Given the above, the bigger reason that I would still vote for Sarah Palin is that it is clear to me that she is not one of the Washington elites who only work for reelection and riches.  I can’t tell you how angry I get when I see people like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd make all their ‘get rich and reelected’ deals at the expense of the people.  Barack Obama never did anything for Chicago, and he only loves unions because they are a huge constituent base.  I honestly don’t believe, despite his rhetoric, that he gives a rats ass for anybody that can’t give him a dollar.  Sometimes I wish we could just scrap Washington and start all over.  So when I see someone like Sarah Palin who has fought corruption and won, who seems to truly have a heart of compassion for the people who have elected her, then I am running to the polls as fast as I can.

I admit that she hasn’t come out as an intellectual heavy weight, but she certainly isn’t stupid either as many would have you believe.  Need I remind you that your own current president stated that we have 57 states and has trouble thinking on his feet when his teleprompter quits working.  That’s a far cry different than not answering a question about magazines.  In fact, there’s no way she would have been able to accomplish all that she has done if she were truly not capable of holding office.

So when it comes down to it, people like Sarah Palin are the ones we need in office.  They say sunshine is the greatest disinfectant, and the only way that we are going to fix Washington is to open then curtains and vote people like Sarah Palin in office.

    Great post

She could've taken a larger role nationally and stayed on as Governor like all the other pols. Travel the country, give speeches, hold fundraisers for other candidates all while collecting a check for a job as governor that she doesnt do full time. That's conventional political wisdom. It's amazing that is what some even on the right say she sould have done. But Sarah does the honorable thing by stepping down, taking a larger role, and giving the ppl of Alaska a full time Gov and even the right criticize her. They deserve the politicians they get

I agree Brian. I may be considered a Palinista, I don't know, but I certainly see a heck of alot more good in her than any other politician lately. I think it is brave of her to give up her office because she knew exactly what the press would say before she made this announcement. I admire her for doing what she really thinks is right for the people of her state. Instead of staying in office and wasting her money on erroneous lawsuits, wasting precious time with her family, and wasting the time of the people of Alaska, she is choosing to take a hit for the good of the state, really. She was darned if she did, and darned if she didn't. This is just like every other attack on conservatives. If she had stayed in office they would have criticized the time she was taking away from the office of governor and since she's leaving they are painting her as weak and ineffective. I can't stand that supposed conservatives (probably RINO's actually) are not standing by her decision. I saw a supposed conservative expert saying on FOX yesterday that Sarah had used her good looks to get ahead in politics and that she was severely uneducated. I think it's a shame that a woman in politics can't be beautiful and be treated the same. She needs another slogan: “Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.” People's criticism is focused on the wrong person. Just like you said, if they would open their eyes, Obama should be much more criticized for using his “charm” (I don't see it) and popularity to get ahead. I hope Sarah chooses to come back to the arena in 2012 but I can't blame her if she doesn't.

I like that, 'Don't hate me because I'm beautiful'. If she was a lib they would love her, but her conservative roots are just too much for them.

I actually hope she runs too, so if she gets through we at least have a solid candidate.

The reason Palin haters are Palin haters is because they cannot fathom why she would jepordize her politcal carreer for the good of the people who elected her(to look out for their good).Nor can they understand a mother giving up a high profile position to protect her family.Self-sacrifice is a concept that Palin bashers just cannot comprehend.

When she is ready to pursue national office, I will be waiting to support her. If she elects to bow out of national politics altogether, I will wish to share a cup of coffee with her and her spouse at the location of their choice to express gratitude for their family's service, and to become a future friend and neighbor.

Nothing made me madder than the way that so many quarters went after her and her family. I sincerely hop that the attacks stop (highly doubtful), and that she is free to do as she pleases.

No matter what, Sarah has my vote is she runs in 2012!!

    Hit.Nail.On.Head

Awesome… she is the anti-Obama, and Anti-washington breadth of fresh air we need.

  • CTPatriotgirl

Thank you! I completely agree. Her heart and her head are in the right place. She loves our country. Great post.

  • R.J. Adams

I agree. Completely. Sarah Palin is a threat to the politics as usual way of our current elected officials, thatis why she is attacked so viciously. In my book, my enemys enemy is my friend, so Sarah Palin should be looked at as a potential hero to the very America that is being watered down and destroyed.

I think another commenter on another blog called it correctly. Gov. Palin is NOT saying “This barfight is just too hard for me”, it's more like “Hold my drink for a sec”. I think this will be very interesting in the coming days!

I've been a proud Palinista since before she was a household name…Back in 2007 when I learned of the Governor, I was completely apathetic, and continue to be towards any other politician…for good reason.
She will continue to have my active support in whatever she chooses to do. It's extremely funny to me that only people that understood her to begin with, understand what she is doing now. For those that don't get it…Start by not applying normal standards given to politicians..That this is somehow only a self-serving act. It is not, and those of us that get her, get that.
Alaska should say thank you….but the AK Dems never will.

There were other ways to handle this problem of constant ethics charges that were frivolous at best, as well as the other remarks about her family. Quitting was certainly the easy way out though. If she got the nomination for '12 I'd vote for her, but I wouldn't cast a vote for her in the primary. A. She doesn't know how to handle a tough fight like that, she let the liberals win, and B. Walking off the job is less than impressive. She lost me there.

What were the other ways to handle the constant ethics charges???

They hate Palin for one reason. ;)

    Right On.

  • SDB

Here is another way of looking at her “quitting” as I read on a different site: By stepping down to pursue other opportunities…since she had chosen not to run for a second term as governor (which is what she meant by calling herself a lame duck…a lame duck is either at the end of the allotted terms or someone who has chosen not to seek another term) she gives her Lt. Governor almost two years of governing experience before he runs for re-election…meaning he probably will have a greater chance of re-election…as well she is able to help control who succeeds her and will continue to implement the policies that she sees best for Alaska….as well she is not taking a paycheck while off pursuing other options…like Obama did when he was a Senator running for president…she is very intelligent and maybe more so for not having gone to an “ivy league” school but for having gone to school in the real world…I just think she is “The One” and would give up my pursuits to help her win!
