Illinois just got slapped down by the courts in December, saying it’s ban on concealed carry wasn’t constitutional and they had 180 days to craft a new law. So instead of trying to abide by the Constitution as instructed, they are now trying to ban actual semi-autos themselves.

Totalitarians never stop trying to fight the Constitution:

FOX NEWS – Illinois Senate Democrats advanced legislation late Wednesday to restrict semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines, pressing forward with new gun control measures in the waning days of the session over the objections of firearms groups.

Amid the developments, the Illinois State Rifle Association issued an “urgent alert” to its members warning them that Democratic legislators were trying to push through last-minute anti-gun legislation.

“There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering,” the group stated in its alert. “You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the state police and avoid prosecution.”

A Senate committee approved two bills, one dealing with the weapons and the other with magazines. Democratic supporters could face a tough sell in the full Senate.

One measure would ban the possession, delivery, sale and transfer of semiautomatic handguns and rifles. People who currently own such weapons could keep them but would have to register them. The bill would allow semiautomatic weapons to be used at shooting ranges, but those facilities would be regulated.

National Rifle Association lobbyist Todd Vandermyde told lawmakers the bill would restrict about 75 percent of handguns and 50 percent of long guns in circulation today. He also said it would treat law-abiding gun owners like criminals, and is in conflict with Second Amendment rights upheld by the courts.

“I’ve never seen a piece of legislation that tramples on so many court decisions,” Vandermyde said.

The other bill, introduced by Democratic state Sen. Dan Kotowski, would limit ammunition magazines to 10 or fewer rounds.

I HAVE TWO WORDS FOR THE ILLINOIS STATE POLICE AND THE DEMOCRATS:

GO F... Y.......!

Well, they didn't have enough votes and it can't come up until the spring session. But the corruptocrats in Chicago won't stop trying, despite the wishes of those "South of I-80" residents.

"Illinois Democrats trying to ban semi-automatic handguns and rifles, high capacity magazines".

Bet they aren't planing on trying to enforce that in the 'gun free zone' on the south side of Chicago. ;-) ;-)

I'm an early Viet Nam veteran and I understand most of these Illinois liberals probably never heard of A Shau Valley but that's alright with me. I earned my right to my guns even if there wasn't a sacred Second Amendment which grants me this right.

I've been a gun owner my entire life and I will never surrender nor register any of my firearms, ever. The FBI released a report today that showed more people were killed last year with hammers and clubs than rifles. Guns don't kill anyone. People, criminals and psychopaths, kill people.

I don't give a flip about Diane Feinstein, Joe Biden or Barack Obama, their cronies in the left wing news media, hollywood or anyone else who has a desire to infringe upon my constituional rights and/or disarm America. It will be a cold day in Hell before they succeed.

Hell of a fight in the A Shau. Glad you made it back. My dad was in Vietnam in '68-'69 with C Co, Rangers under First Field Force.

"Welcome Home Brother". I know where the A Shau Valley is.

We flew into a lot of 'Hot LZ's' getting you guys 'beans and bullets'. Took a lot of your 'Brothers' out in body bags too. :-( 'Nam Vets' are the last people you want to try to accost with a gun in our hands. ;-)

Other than the headline i did not, nor will I read this tyranistic drivel. Though I will say that from the very nano-second that one thug, gang banger, hood, mentally ill person or any other person kills anyone in that State, every person that signed this garbage into law must be tried as co-defendants as accessories BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE FACT. In fact they need to be help for mass conspiracy to commit. This is shear lunacy at it's core.

Part of me wants these people to go after guns. The last time they successful went after guns, we got Speaker Gingrich. I can tell you that downstate Illinois has a lot of gun owners... many of whom have been voting Democrat.

James1754

The only state in the union that does not have a concealed carry law. The city of Chicago had a handgun ban for over 20 years until thrown out by the courts. Now the democrats in the Illinois legislature want to ban most handguns and the majority of rifles and shotguns.

Makes perfect sense to me. All you have to do is look at how well banning guns has worked in Chicago. I'm sure this new legislation will curb crime as well as it did in DC, that is until the courts throw this one out as well.

Until now, the conversation about tightening gun laws seemed to center around resurrecting the flawed assault weapons ban and banning high-capacity magazines. Neither of these measures would really do much to restrain rampage shooters, especially those with multiple semiautomatic weapons who had practiced fast replacement of the magazine.

Illinois has correctly zeroed in on the feature that makes rampage shooters so lethal - the semiautomatic action. The development of the semiautomatic action introduced an order-of-magnitude increase in the lethality of firearms, unanticipated by the Founding Fathers and appropriate only to the military (my uninformed opinion). How many of the Newtown victims would be alive today if the shooter had been using the Founding Fathers' weapon of choice - the flintlock musket......

So now we live in an environment where almost anyone over 21 can walk into a Wal-Mart, purchase a weapon with military-level lethality from a clerk who may or may not himself understand safe handling of the weapon. The purchaser is then free to walk out among us, untrained, possibly clueless, with this new weapon, and we're all supposed to be okay with that? I'm pretty sure that's not how the Army introduces new recruits to their weapon.

As for the second amendment argument trumping all else - if you were to channel the Founding Fathers (as I have done above), I'm pretty sure they would tell you that that the second amendment is now as obsolete as the third (and that the SCOTUS has pretty much botched their intent), since our awesome military and police forces down the local level make the well regulated militia that they referred to unnecessary for the security of this free state. In any case, they would remind you of the prominent placement of the term "well regulated" in the amendment, which the Wal-Mart scenario above certainly fails to achieve.

The US didn't have drones, a moooslim imposter in our WH using a drone to spy on and murder Americans, Sharia law, televised beheadings, gunwalking of high capacity weapons to Mexican drug cartels by the POS and AG, slaughtering of US Ambassadors for gunwalking in the Middle East, back in the founding fathers' day either. So your point, if there is one, is worthless.

JustAnotherUninformedOpinion
JustAnotherUninformedOpinion

Huh? You're right, I rambled. More simply, my intended point was that allowing random untrained citizens access to weapons of military-level lethality is a bad idea, serves no reasonable purpose, wasn't the intent of the framers of the Constitution, and doesn't make the world a better place for our kids.

Long live the "well regulated" intent of the Second Amendment.

BikerHoop

>>the founding fathers were concerned about the "militia" being well-regulated, not the guns.<<

Correct. And "well regulated" at that time meant well trained.

Nukeman60
Nukeman60

As you so eloquently proven, liberals don't have the slightest idea about gun knowledge and gun safety. No one wants random, untrained citizens access to any forms of guns. To be a responsible gun owner requires one to be knowledgable about them and well-trained.

They also know what a 'semi-automatic' means. They also know what Wal-Mart sells at their gun counter and what requirements are needed to buy a gun.

And, btw, since there was no standing army at the time, the founding fathers were concerned about the "militia" being well-regulated, not the guns.

Nukeman60
Nukeman60

And yet, even without all that, the founding father's still feared the government becoming too large and tyrannical. Hmmm... Pretty smart, these old dudes.

Back in our founding fathers' day, did they even have 26 people in the same school?

Nukeman60
Nukeman60

Nice one. The best part of his was the part about the musket. If I lived in the founding father's time and wanted to kill 26 people in a school, I'd never use a musket anyway. I'd round them up in the schoolhouse, lock the doors and burn them down. Anyone escaping would be killed with a sword or machete (I realize this is a guesome description and I apologize for that, but he fails to see actual facts - oh, much like Frank did, imagine that!).

Pure foolishness.

I actually heard today about a woman who accidently backed up over her 9-yr. old daughter and killed her. And now someone is either suing the car company or pushing for legislation to make car manufacturers install rear cameras.

This is no different than gun law mentality. Ooooo! A life was lost with this product and so it should be regulated or removed.

So the list grows endless. Ban medications. Ban refrigerators. Ban the sun. All of these things can kill you... so based on leftists limited mentality, they must be bad. Liberalism is the side effect of low I.Q.s.

Orangeone

MN has children swallowing small batteries. So is a ban on batteries next? I say ban liberal parents because they give their young children toys with flat batteries to keep them occupied while they text, surf the net and do drugs.

Guess I'll show my age, but, I can remember in high school a lot of us guys took our knives to school. In grade school we carried pocket knives and high school we wore our knives in leather holsters on our belt. Man, we was cool. Teachers nowadays would convulse and I would be doing life without parole. I will always be clinger and pray to never have to defend with knife or gun - but I will without hesitation if family is threatened. We are in a sad state, aren't we?!!

Wolfie

Me too... I used to use my pocket knife to sharpen my pencil in class and nobody gave a darn about it. Do that now... (shudder)

Back in the stone age when I was in grade school, I could have ridden my bike to school with daddy's WW2 M-1 Garand across the handle bars for 'show and tell' and nobody would have thought anything about it. In fact, the teacher might have carried one himself.

I'm personally hoping the voting public in Illinois - that great bastion of liberal democrats who stand around with their hands out - loses the majority of their rights, and fast. No guns, no freedoms, pay more taxes, and sit down and shut up about it. Take your welfare checks and suck lemons. I have no sympathy for these folks, sorry. Yes, I know there are conservatives and decent Americans living there, but they are far outnumbered. Time for these blue states to suffer big. I want to watch it each and every day.

And how's all that "gun control" working in Chicago these days? Oh, that's right, they now have over 500 murders to date, most of it gang violence. Strange, when Al Capone and the gangs were killing each other by the car load, nobody back then was calling for gun control. So why now? Could it be that the liberals and the socialists and the communists want something MORE than just gun control? And if you can summarily disregard the Second Amendment, why not the First as well? This is a road we do NOT want to go down on.

>>the muslims are our biggest threat to the US<<

Now there you go again blaming the religion of peace for all the crap that a small faction of them is doing. Just because they're killing people daily doesn't mean they're a threat. Just because DuhOne thinks their evening prayer is the sweetest sound in the world and actually gets to enter the prayer room of a mosque doesn't mean he's one of them, does it? (/sarc)

the problem with that is with this is not just a amature black president running the country like its his piggybank.. he his a fullblown dictator ... hell bent on distroying this country with every fiber of his being... this is the same way hitler , stalin, mao, chavez and all of the other dictators have done all thru history... the muslims are our biggest threat to the US because he has apeased them allowed them in every part of government... he is one of them and their goal is to bring down America...
