Is the State Department setting the stage for a Mexican Civil War?

Now don’t go thinking that I done sun-baked my brain and went plum loco or had one too many shots o’ Redeye Rye – I’ll bet that got your attention. But that is the question this trail has lead me to, so I’ll lay the cards on the table that have been dealt so far.

We have the apparent sale by a State Department directorate of some very serious firepower to a nest of cutthroat bushwhackers that go by the handle of “Las Zetas”, flown out of an Airport in the Dallas area that just happens to be the same airport used by DEA Flight operations.

Just look at this purtty picture here:

Now, if you look over yonder in the lower left corner, you’ll see the dusty border town of Columbus, NM. Columbus is a sleepy little town, who’s claim to fame is that they were visited by a disagreeable little bandito, that went by the handle of Villa and his dropping by is what brought a couple of hardcases named Pershing and Patton to the neighborhood. We’ll drop back into Columbus in a bit.

What the map lays out are the routes used to airship the weapons to the border, where they are staged for ground shipment into Mexico, I’m sure ya’ll are real familiar with names of the towns north and south of the border (if you’ve been paying attention to this region at all).

Remember this little bit from our previous story:

“They are purchasing weapons in the Dallas area and are flying them to El Paso, and then they are taking them across the border into Juárez,” said Jordan, a law enforcement consultant and former DEA official who still has contacts in the law enforcement community.

Jordan said the Zetas were flying weapons caches out of the Alliance Airport in Fort Worth, and after they arrive in the El Paso vicinity, the Zetas smuggled them into Juárez.

“What’s ironic is that the DEA also uses the Alliance Airport for some of its operations,” Jordan said. “The Zetas were working out of a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood in the Dallas area to smuggle the weapons to the border.”

Now just fix that shootin’ eye on this, straight from UPI;

Phil Jordan, a former CIA operative, told the El Paso Times that the Zetas drug organization might be planning to disrupt Mexico’s 2012 elections or use the weapons to fight other cartels.

The real interesting piece of the tale is the part about disrupting the Mexican Federal elections.
Let’s refresh our memories as to the type of hardware we’re talking about here, military grade stuff, not the type of gear you’d get off a street corner from some punk that can’t manage to keep his pants up and don’t know which end of a ball cap is the northbound one.

“They’ve found anti-aircraft weapons and hand grenades from the Vietnam War era,” Plumlee said. Other weapons found include grenade launchers, assault rifles, handguns and military gear including night-vision goggles and body armor.

Now that kind of hardware don’t come from no tradin’ post I’ve ever laid eyes on, pard. Why would the Feds, even if they were conducting a legitimate sting operation (I know it’s a stretch) let weapons go to a group of narco-terrorists that they knew where planning to disrupt Federal elections? Think about it, ya’ll are a purtty sharp bunch.

Now enters the mysterious Carmen Alvarez Excelsior apparently of Mexico who pens a article just for the Salem-News, a slightly lefty rag newspaper in Salem, Oregon. This thing has gone viral but I cannot vouch for the veracity of the lady’s words, so I’ll let you decide on this:

(MEXICO CITY) – Los Zetas use the Alliance Airport in Ft. Worth, Texas -the same airport where the DEA’s Air Operations Center is located- to fly weapons to Columbus, NM., El Paso, and Laredo, TX. to be later smuggled into Mexico. CIA analysts say the weapons, which are purchased from the U.S. Government according to captured Zeta leader Jesus Enrique Rejon Aguilar, aka. El Mamito, are being stockpiled throughout Mexico for a potential upcoming overthrow of the Mexican government in 2012.

This opening paragraph is the only different piece of information, as the rest is sourced from the El Paso Times, which I have previously presented to you. Is Ms.Excelsior a red herring? Maybe, maybe not.

Now let’s pay another visit to Columbus, you may recall that the local government (Mayor, Chief of Police, a former village trustee and several others) were picked up by Federal law-dogs and charged with weapons smuggling. Yup this Columbus:

Robert “Tosh” Plumlee, a former CIA contract pilot, supported Jordan’s allegations and said the Zetas allegedly also purchased property in the Columbus-Palomas border region to stash weapons and other contraband.

This very same Columbus, the very one the DEA air route ends at. While all this has been going on it would seem that the former Mayor has copped a plea to avoid a much longer sentence than 65 years he is looking at now, other cases are pending. Was this just some local crimelord wannabes looking to make a few pesos or was it something else? There were a few oddities about the way the Feds handled the case. Originally the New Mexico US Attorney’s office was handling the case, when it was suddenly and with no explanation what so ever it was transferred to the West Texas US Attorney in El Paso.

So just where is all this leading? We have several either rogue agencies or at least rogue elements within said agencies ( I really hope it’s the latter) delivering military grade weapons to narco-terrorists such as the Zetas that may be planning to disrupt elections and overthrow the Mexican government. The Zetas are capable of doing this, their core cadre are ex-Mexican Special Forces, more on them here.

If I were a Conspiracy Theorist I would be tempted to say, that it just may be that the next “Crisis not to waste” will be a full blown civil war along our southern border. War number four anyone? Do you think that might be a usable one?

Now iff’n y’all will excuse me, I’ve got a passel of work to get done. Y’all might want to think about that as well, eh?
