Jesse Jackson admits using Trayvon Martin tragedy for anti-gun agenda

Jesse Jackson recently told a crowd that getting Zimmerman arrested wasn’t a touchdown but rather just a first down, that they still were fighting for the repeal of “Stand Your Ground” laws and revisions to the “ban on assault weapons”.

He spoke about how Trayvon Martin’s case “just happened to be a perfect storm”, that it is “such an ideal force for sensitivity” because most black people can identify with it. He said that we must come to grips with “just how violent we’ve become”, referencing Zimmerman’s concealed weapon and then led the following chant:

Say arresting Zimmerman, is a first down, not a touchdown. Until, we repeal, the Stand Your Ground laws; Until, we revise, the ban, on assault weapons; Until, we stop, racial profiling, the problem, will get worse. But it doesn’t have to be cause we have the power to make a difference.

Watch below:

If the child matters to you, you’ll figure out a way to keep ’em. If they don’t you’ll figure out a way to dismiss them. And that’s what your burden of trying to fight destruction of the culture. The culture is inclined – we’ve lost 31 blacks in police killings…this year and 17 since Trayvon.

Trayvon just happened to be a perfect storm, the right culmination of things and social media equal…the Trayvonizing of our time.

The tragic fact of Trayvon’s situation…is more common than unique. If it was unique you’d say that kid had their problems. But there’s a Trayvon in every town, right? That’s what makes Trayvon such an ideal force for sensitivity because if you look at that, every thing about that case is sorta lived in everyday and I want to make sure people notice about that hoodie. Cause it’s not about that hoodie, it’s about racial profiling. The hoodie is almost a diversion. People don’t want us no more selling hoodies, the other don’t want us selling the rifles. And until we come to grips with just how violent we’ve become, my god, I mean concealed weapons?

Say arresting Zimmerman, is a first down, not a touchdown. Until we repeal the Stand Your Ground laws, until we revise the ban on assault weapons, until we stop racial profiling, the problem will get worse. But it doesn’t have to be cause we have the power to make a difference.

NOTE: I did the best I could transcribing Jackson’s comments, however it was very difficult at times and if I got something wrong, let me know and I’ll make a correction.
