Fordham University, practicing extreme liberal tolerance, banned Ann Coulter from speaking after liberals got their panties in a wad over her being invited by the Republican group on campus. On the flip side they have had such talents as Peter Singer speak on campus, a man who believes in both beastiality and infanticide. Apparently that’s OK with liberals.

Good thing we figured that out. Watch below:

Anyone who needs to physically go to the university to figure out why Coulter was banned is a complete moron. I dare say 95% of the people on this forum could give the answer off the top of their heads without ever leaving their chair.

Ann Coulter was not banned. Another Fox News lie.

This is poor journalism. As a student at Fordham University, I can tell you that Jesse Watters and Bill O'Reilly got their facts WRONG. Ann Coulter was NOT BANNED from speaking at Fordham. Father McShane specifically said in his email to the student body regarding the incident that although he disagreed with Ann Coulter, it would be against the Fordham tradition of "fearless and robust engagement" and academic freedom to not let her speak. The campus Republicans rescinded the invitation of their own accord--Father McShane did not force them to do so. I have attached Father McShane's official statement on the matter so that you can get BOTH sides of the story--not just the side of Fox News. And furthermore--the reason the Fordham community became vocal in opposition to Ann Coulter and not to Bill Maher/Peter Singer is that Bill Maher/Peter Singer are not widely known for hatefully attacking members of our community, such as when she told a Muslim student that she should travel by camel if she couldn't find a magic carpet, because Muslims should not be allowed on airplanes. I am proud to go to Fordham University, and I am proud of the way that we handled the incident.

Father McShane's statement:

The College Republicans, a student club at Fordham University, has invited Ann Coulter to speak on campus on November 29. The event is funded through student activity fees and is not open to the public nor the media. Student groups are allowed, and encouraged, to invite speakers who represent diverse, and sometimes unpopular, points of view, in keeping with the canons of academic freedom. Accordingly, the University will not block the College Republicans from hosting their speaker of choice on campus.

To say that I am disappointed with the judgment and maturity of the College Republicans, however, would be a tremendous understatement. There are many people who can speak to the conservative point of view with integrity and conviction, but Ms. Coulter is not among them. Her rhetoric is often hateful and needlessly provocative—more heat than light—and her message is aimed squarely at the darker side of our nature.

As members of a Jesuit institution, we are called upon to deal with one another with civility and compassion, not to sling mud and impugn the motives of those with whom we disagree or to engage in racial or social stereotyping. In the wake of several bias incidents last spring, I told the University community that I hold out great contempt for anyone who would intentionally inflict pain on another human being because of their race, gender, sexual orientation, or creed.

“Disgust”was the word I used to sum up my feelings about those incidents. Hate speech, name-calling, and incivility are completely at odds with the Jesuit ideals that have always guided and animated Fordham.

Still, to prohibit Ms. Coulter from speaking at Fordham would be to do greater violence to the academy, and to the Jesuit tradition of fearless and robust engagement. Preventing Ms. Coulter from speaking would counter one wrong with another. The old saw goes that the answer to bad speech is more speech. This is especially true at a university, and I fully expect our students, faculty, alumni, parents, and staff to voice their opposition, civilly and respectfully, and forcefully.

The College Republicans have unwittingly provided Fordham with a test of its character: do we abandon our ideals in the face of repugnant speech and seek to stifle Ms. Coulter’s (and the student organizers’) opinions, or do we use her appearance as an opportunity to prove that our ideas are better and our faith in the academy—and one another—stronger? We have chosen the latter course, confident in our community, and in the power of decency and reason to overcome hatred and prejudice.

Joseph M. McShane, S.J., President

Bill Mahr is not widely known for attacking conservatives? What do they teach you guys at university?

Who cares? The sooner Coulter isn't a face pinned on the Conservative Movement the better. The woman has done nothing, notta, zero to advance conservatism except make herself rich selling books. Coulter then had the audacity to trash an actual conservative who's done more for the conservative cause by actually passing conservative policy than all the conservative pundits and authors together. Coulter trashed Newt to push a RINO she knew would loose to Obama. Fa-Q Ann Coulter go away!

My biggest pet peeve in the modern world is the repeating conversion that goes like this; "I don't like" or "they should be banned" or "I'm not voting for.." because they are a bad person etc,

and then the question "Why do you feel that way"

and they reply with some vague response, "I heard from a friend..." or "I don't remember" or "someone told me..." etc....

Just another craphole university being engulfed by liberal idiots.

Academia is a death trap to our children's minds.

Libertyship46

Well, there's that old saying that liberals will tolerate anything except people that disagree with them. But to be both stupid AND liberal, well that is a deadly combination. I think I just described today's average university student. But, hey, don't worry America. These same people will be voting Democratic until they're in their forties, when reality sets in and they realize that it's better to hold on to your paycheck rather than give it all to the government each week. I guess some things you can't learn in college. You actually have to have A JOB.

PNWShan
PNWShan

"... actually have to have a job."

With the way this Administration is running things, the last thing these college grads will have is a job. They'll go for degree after degree, take out more and more loans, whine about the system - all because there are no real jobs for people with degrees in lesbian marxist multi-culti studies.

Fordham is a private university, and as such, has the right to set their own policy, hypocritical or not. Neither Ann Coulter nor anyone else has a 'right' to speak there. If it were a public university, that would be a different case.

Mary O'Grady

And we have the right to challenge them on their hypocrisy.

NCHokie02
NCHokie02

Of course, and people have the right to expose the hypocrisy in their chosing of speakers. No one was saying that Fordham should be forced to let Ann Coulter speak however when they ban her from speaking because of her "inciteful" nature or whatever the reason, then let Bill Maher speak and let someone who agrees with beastiality and infanticide (to speak at a Catholic university nonetheless) speak there.

ApplePie101

I agree. However, people need to be reminded that this is a sword that cuts both ways.

NCHokie02

True, I just think that in the liberal view of extreme tolerance they see it fit to ban someone who has opposing views of theirs. Again, the left claiming they are all for free speech except when it doesn't agree with their agenda.

I really don't know of liberal being banned from speaking at a liberal groups event by conservatives. Just saying.

Yazz55

While I personally feel that Ms Coulter lost alot of respect in conservative groups, such as this one, I very importantly believe that she has the right to speak and state her perspective. And if a college or university invites her, it should be respected.

You don't have to agree with her perspective, or mine. But all should be allowed to speak and not be censored by some marxist bolshevik whackjob.

Liberals always preach "free speech", but they are anything but. If they don't agree with you, they try to silence you. Such great Americans that respect the Constitution.

I can't get worked up over Ann Coulter. I have completely washed my hands of her after her cheer leading of Romney off rip and her defense of "the conservative" Romneycare in Mass. As well as her love affair with Rhino #1 Chris Cristie. She is a complete and utter fraud, a phony conservative that shills her books to what she perceives as a willing consumer base. Good for Fordham! She isn't worth it! I hope she fades away and shame on anyone that doesn't throw the garbage she spews on how "Conservative" Romney and Cristie are right back in her face! I prefer the article scoop did when she attempted to bash Levin without ever mentioning him by name. Go away Ann, we are on to you.

Michael7117

I won't get worked up over Ann Coulter either. But, you digressed from the whole point about the article which was about the hypocrisy of the left. But, since you brought up the issue of Rhinos, I never believed Romney was a conservative. But I still voted for Romney as the lesser of two evils. Not voting for Romney was a vote FOR Obama. I would much rather vote for an old school Democrat than a radical socialist/communist like Obama. If enough conservatives like you continue to hold out for the perfect conservative, we will continue to lose elections. By the way, so you aren't labeled a hypocrite, you should right off right wing conservatives like me and millions of others who voted for Romney while holding their nose.

Nitnyline

Oh yeah, I did the same thing. Clothes pin on my nose and voted for Romney.

CO2isGood

Well-said!

Romney was my last choice of the candidates that were in the running, but like you I would have voted for Bozo the Clown if he was more conservative than Obama. These self-described Conservatives that stayed home are nothing more than enablers for the Left.

A true Conservative makes each and every decision based on the most conservative choice available at the time. He works within the system to advance the most conservative values, and acts on the most conservative eventuality, every single minute of his life.

A true Conservative never takes his ball and goes home, he never gives up the fight.

All you loser "conservatives" that stayed home...go F yourselves!

...and since this is a rant...Coulter can go F herself too.
