Joan Walsh: You can’t compare Democrats to Republicans on corruption

Ah, the Democrats are so angelic, so wonderful, that even in the midst of corruption scandals they still stand above us as beacons of example as they route the evil corruption out of their party and say in a loud voice “NO MORE will you tarnish our country with your vile and wicked ways!” So swift is their reaction to corruption that the country barely notices that an evil ere occurred on the halls of those majestic buildings in which they labor for our most basic needs!

Or not.

But you would think that by listening to Joan Walsh’s comparison of how the Democrats handle corruption to the Republicans (video below). Let me start by bringing up a few points. First, how long did it take the democratic leadership to deal with Dodd’s sweetheart that he received from Countrywide? Surely the Democratic Leadership was quick to investigate this as soon as wind of it broke…eh? Let’s see, the news broke around June 2008 and he revealed those super secret sweetheart deals

Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd has finally, sort of, kind of, ended 193 days of stonewalling about his sweetheart loans from former Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo. At least he did if you were a fast reader and were one of the few reporters he invited to his Hartford office yesterday to review — but not copy or take — more than 100 pages of documents related to his 2003 mortgage financings through Countrywide’s “Friends of Angelo” program.

Wow, 193 days later. They really pushed him to ‘fess up fast. It turns out he never revealed what he had promised, and then announced that he was just going to have them refinanced in what appeared to be an effort to hide his true transgression.

But that’s just Chris Dodd. Surely that was an anomaly:

Representative Charles B. Rangel has earned more than $75,000 in rental income from a villa he has owned in the Dominican Republic since 1988, but never reported it on his federal or state tax returns, according to a lawyer for the congressman and documents from the resort.

Oh, did I mention that article was published in September 2008? Woah, that’s 541 days later that he finally takes a “leave of absence” from his position as head of the Ways and Means committee, you know, the people who write the tax code. And it took the likes of the New York Times to put pressure on Pelosi to do the right thing and remove Rangel from his position.

And this list could go on and on and you can certainly find more here.

So this idea of Walsh’s that the Democrats are superior to Republicans when it comes to routing corruption is hogwash. What she is really revealing is her bias toward the Democratic party, which, if you ever read any of her articles, is really no surprise.
