Joe Miller: This race isn’t about Sarah Palin

Joe Miller was on Geraldo tonight talking about Murkowski’s last ditch effort at holding on to power via her write-in campaign. But it was the last two questions that caught my attention, as did Miller’s answers. Kimberly Guilfoyle, subbing for Geraldo, asked Miller if Sarah Palin’s endorsement put him over the top in his narrow victory in the primary. She then asked him if he would look to Sarah Palin for advice and such as he tries to win the seat. The first question I could deal with, but the second question just seemed odd, as if Kimberly were intentionally trying to make this about Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin is a powerful political figure and I think it would be easy for a candidate to ‘suck up’ to someone like her, especially on TV, and even more so because she can draw very large crowds who will hear her sing the praises of whomever she is endorsing. But Miller never went there, which I think speaks volumes about him as a candidate. Instead he talked about the effort and hard work of the people who helped him win the primary, and said he believes it’s that very same energy that will help him win the seat in November. He made a point to say that this election isn’t about personalities of individuals, but about pushing back this big government and stopping this fiscal insanity. I think this tells much of what I need to know about this man, that he is about the people and not about the power.

GO JOE!
