For all of the radical Islamists in the Middle East (as well as here in America), there is no co-existance with anybody. We are all infidels to them. They only distinguish between the "Great Satan," which is the United States, and the "Smaller Satan," which is Israel. As for the Europeans, they have nothing but outright contempt for them along with hatred. These people never want to co-exist with anyone because they think their way of life is the only way of life. And if you don't get with the program, you have to be eliminated. I just wish we didn't have to even BE in that part of the world. But because of our obligations to Israel and because of our dependence on Middle Eastern oil, we're stuck there. Just another argument to finally start developing our own natural resources so that we can finally get away from these crazy people. The Middle East would be A LOT simpler if all we had to do was worry about the defense of Israel.

Wolves and wolf packs in Mongolia. The people and herders who dealt with them etc. Graphic descriptions of how they hunt, how ruthless, but necessary they are. How the Chinese attempted to deal with them. How Genghis Khan learned from them.
It's one of the most interesting books I've ever read. My father-in-law gave it to me a couple of years ago. He lived and worked in China for 20 years. He married his translator, and she has recently become a US citizen. Her best friend is a Mongolian lady.
I may read it again soon when I catch up on my current to-read list :-)

Yes, they train us as we train them - that's why and how collies and shepherds get the sheep moved from one hill to the next.
They can read us like a book - and so can we. It is very beautiful, and it is for a mutual benefit.
It's also not about hunting alone: the social structure in a pack is precisely determined, and the young cubs get educated by their elders - with consequences for those who do not learn that there are boundaries and that there is obedience to the leaders.
I read that the Alpha wolf, the daddy, will play with the cubs when they leave their den for the first time. He plays rougher and rougher - and the cubs are supposed to flee back to the den. The one who doesn't, who doesn't 'get' what this is about, will be killed there and then, for being too stupid to read the signs, for being too stupid to obey authority.

I found the resemblance to Scoops Brennan pretty convincing.
The puppet character is a news anchor on a popular French program that uses other puppets to parody French politics.
