John McCain opposes Rand Paul on Senate floor over preventing back door to raise debt ceiling

Ugh. Just like Ted Cruz, Rand Paul wants to ensure that the Senate doesn’t use a back door to raise the debt ceiling and therefore he’s requiring that in order to go to conference on the budget with the House, the Senate agree not to use any back doors to raise the debt ceiling by a simple majority.

But John McCain, taking the side of Harry Reid, thinks it is silly to make such an unprecedented requirement on the conferees and says we should just ‘instruct them’ not to do so and essentially hope for the best. Really, he sounds a lot like Harry Reid when he called Ted Cruz a ‘school yard bully’. He’s making the same arguments as Reid.
