Jon Stewart: Why are people screaming “my hair is on fire”?

Lou Dobbs was on The Daily Show which gave Jon Stewart a chance to ask someone from the right side of the aisle why are suddenly people so afraid now that we have a new president? Here’s the first part of the interview (and you can find the 2nd and 3rd parts here):

To Stewart’s credit, I think it’s a great question, however Dobbs does a terrible job of answering it. I think it deserves a better answer and mine would go something like this:

This is the first time that I can remember ever having a president who wanted to ‘fundamentally transform’ the country, not to simply just make it better. He’s the first president who has really taken a hard agenda on sharing the wealth, which can sound good in overtures, but can have drastic effects on the economy.  He’s the first president that I can remember who has hand picked so many appointees to his administration who not only look flatteringly at cesspools of power that thrive on oppressing their people, but have promoted very radical views of population control and controlling the media.  Add to that the fact that the democrats have a majority and seem to be completely unwilling to listen to the American public for which they serve.

Sure, this isn’t the first time that the left has tried to push government health care. And this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen big government spending out of control whether it be on the right or the left. But the difference here is that the Obama administration came in and the first thing on his spending agenda was to spend a trillion on a stimulus package which isn’t even close to living up to the expectations that they set.  In the first month in office, he has more than quadrupled the deficit from where it was in 2008. Have you ever seen this budget deficit graph from the Washington Post from March of this year?

This was before the proposed government health care and before the proposed cap and trade.  If spending was such a problem in the last administration, then why are we spending and spending and spending now instead? Did you not hear the words of David Walker, head of the GAO, in 2007?

The point is that this administration wants to ‘fundamentally transform’ this country in ways that we’ve never seen before. Whether you want to label him a facist or a socialist, Obama clearly has a collectivist agenda and seems hell bent on bringing this country to its economic knees to accomplish that goal. This country didn’t become a beacon of prosperity and freedom for the world by pushing collectivism. And this is why people are screaming “my hair is on fire”.
