I know very little about Afghanistan but I must say that what Henry Kissenger lays out here seems to make alot of sense. He’s not really concerned so much about corruption in the Afghan government – in fact he believes that we shouldn’t focus on a national Afghan government at all.
Here’s a couple of quotes:
“I think [Afghanistan] is a swamp which we cannot drain to assume that we can create a national government in Kabul…We should try to create local governments and regional governments…and if they can create a viable system, then one can go on from there to have an effective national government.”
“We are not fighting for an Afghan government. We are fighting for the national security of the United States and the stability of the region…”
