If the IRS hasn't had any questions it seems pretty clear that the guy isn't breaking any laws.
I don't think it "works" except for the drones who are already dead-set against Romney; for everyone else, it just pisses them off and makes them want to back Mitt even more.
Sometimes our reaction to these types of things is wrong. And I'm guilty too. I get shocked when I see Harry Reid do something like this. But in reality, should we be shocked?
If you walk into a fenced yard that has a pit bull, and you get attacked, are you shocked? If you buy a watch from a guy in an alley and it turns out to be a fake, are you shocked? If you watch Bill Maher and he says something vulgar, are you shocked?
Instead of getting shocked, we need to get angry. It's okay for us to be angry. We should be. And we need to channel that anger into fixing the problem. And the only tool that can be used to fix the problem is our VOTE. The Tea Party was angry in 2010 and they took their anger to the voting booth. I just hope there are a lot of angry people this November!
It's bad enough that Harry Butt Reid made the accusation at all, but it's dispicable when he uses the Senate floor to do it. He is protected from libel, and he will not make the accusation out in public. That in itself says that he's lying his arse off. If he believed what he was saying he would say it in the publica arena. He is literally using the Senate floor to break the law and get away with it.
If Reid does not apologize and take back the slander then Romney needs to sue Reid’s pants off (sorry for the ugly visual) or as in olden days challenge him to an old fashioned duel.
Dirty Harry is beyond disgusting and dirty....Nevada and the Senate should be embarrassed. Many in Nevada probably are but Senate Dims are probably proud.
Harry Reid is a vile, mean-spirited man who is more interested in hurting Romney's campaign than he is in helping America recover from the failed policies of obummer and his useless administration.
Word is out that dirty Harry has not answered any questions surrounding the baseless charges of child molestation in his Senate office.
Not only is it disgusting, Ried broke the law (again) when he did that. Campaigning on the senate floor is not allowed.
I doubt anyone believes that Obama has not abused the IRS and retrieved Mitts taxes. Harry Reid has no doubt seen them. But if Reid says what he saw then he would hang himself and beak laws that Obama could not save him from.
Thus Reid says this to try to force Romney to prove him wrong and get out the information Reid actually wants out there.
My guess. Heavy contributions to Democratic Groups. But could be anything. Proving he was a Democrat though would destroy his credibility with the base and do the most harm.

I don't agree with everything Chris Christie believes in, but God, wouldn't you just love to see him take Harry Reid apart on the Senate floor with all the World watching? I know I sure would.

Like I said, I don't agree with everything he believes in. His position on Muslims and Immigration is a sadness to me. I just like the fight he has in him when he's pissed about something. That being said, I don't think he'll go much further politically.
This is where Mitch McConnell needs to take the Senate floor and say: Ok Harry I will make you a deal. When Barack Obama releases his real birth certificate, grades from Harvard and the truth about his past associations I will call Mitt Romney and ask him to release his tax returns. Deal Harry??????? Will McConnell do that? No, but I can dream can't I?!
In days of old, Reid's schtick is precisely the kind of thing that would get a politician censured by the body he's supposed to represent. These days? Sadly, it'll never happen.

You hit that on the head. Some just seem to be on permanent defense ceding the game before the kickoff. Others just feign resistance and then throw the fight. Others just appear corrupt.
The one thing I noticed at all the early big rallies in DC was the reaction of the Congressmen who came out in the street with us. It truly was something they had never experienced - a sea of America citizens in the street standing with them.
We can never doubt ourselves, never turn back - and we can never, ever fail to support and stand with those few politicians with the courage and principle to fight this evil that we call a government.
sDee, as you mention, there seems to be a new group of Politicians approaching Washington cautiously. I like Allen West, Mia Love if she makes it and several others that we sent up to the Cesspool in the last Congressional election. But I am not about hopes and dreams. Hopes and dreams don't have any place in running a country like the United States of America. Ask most politicians in Washington a direct question, you get wiffle waffle. Ask Colonel Allen West a direct question and in a heartbeat, you get a direct answer.

If I were mittens, I'd say, "I'll release mine if Timothy Geithner releases his.... OOPS! I forgot, he did and it shows that he's a tax cheat. Yet here he is, the head of the Dept. of Treasury. Gee harry, didn't seem to mind him publically admitting he's a tax cheat did ya?" Then I'd say, "I'll tell you what. You have your source come to the house floor with you and tell Congress what he told you. I'll be a good guy and not bring a lawsuit against either one of you, since discussing a private citizen's tax information is a federal offense. How about it harry?"

It was obvious what Reid was trying to do. The media badger Romney about it and all ask the same question (from their cue cards) - "Why don't you just release the taxes, to put an end to this."
What I think Romney should do, the next time a reporter asks that obvious question is say, "To put an end to this, why don't you ask Harry Reid for his source. Don't bother me with Harry's problems. It's obviously a lie. Ask Harry why he would lie on the Senate floor."
I wonder if Hairy Weed has released his tax returns? Oh wait, no he hasn't. The last thing that he needs people to know is that part of the reason that he's worth 50 m bucks is because of insider trading. And where oh where does he hide his money? Couldn't be offshore now could it? Could be. And my source tells me that the pet goat that Hairy hides in his office is named Vickie.
