If that's the case I can understand but I think it's foolish. Obama doesn't have Israel's back. He has proven it over and over. Netanyahu may be hoping for a dead horse to come back to life.
Hamas has done this so many times and when they run low on rockets and see troops at their border they "cease fire"..Sooner or later Israel will have to take back Gaza and the Sinai...As soon as Hamas rearms from Iran ,it'll start all over again.
20 rockets were lobbed from Gaza into Israel last night.
Is the media gonna cover that?
Nope. Only if Israel returns fire.
AFP - Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal said on Wednesday that Israel had "failed in all its goals" after a Gaza truce deal came into effect, while thanking Egypt and Iran for their support during the conflict.
"After eight days, God stayed their hand from the people of Gaza, and they were compelled to submit to the conditions of the resistance," Meshaal said.
"Israel has failed in all its goals," he told reporters in a Cairo hotel.
Meshaal also thanked ceasefire mediator Egypt, as well as Iran, which he said "had a role in arming" his Islamist movement during the conflict.
An Israeli jet would do well to get a lock on this this guy and push the button, turning him into something like cranberry sauce.
It's a hoot that the terrorists in Gaza are claiming victory over Israel. Remember the Monty Python gem "The Holy Grail" and that Knight that only had flesh wounds as each of his limbs was cut off?
Israel lost 5 heroes while Gaza lost 140 morons? Now that's a victory alright.
This man has an opinion on everything, everywhere...And mysteriously, he thinks he's just as smart and intellectually superior in all subject matter... LOL
I don't really know what to believe anymore. Most of that is because I've lived four years with a pathological, anti-American in the White House, and a groveling press that follows him around. The truth always seems to be the exact opposite of what I'm hearing. Hillary Clinton didn't need to go to Israel - we have conference calling available. So, it was for a big show of some sort. Perhaps Bibi used that to get the U.S. to publicly support him and publicly admonish Hamas. Perhaps it was done to tell Bibi that either Israel backs off, or U.S. money and military equipment would suddenly get "lost" somewhere on its way over. I don't know anymore. All I do know, is that Obama's true reasons were anti-Israel. How Bibi plays Obama is another thing entirely.
It's not simply 'how' Bibi plays Obama - it's that Bibi has played Obama like a fiddle, and, to top it all, has made Obama feel good about himself. Obama has totally underestimated Bibi (serves the POS right!), and has been outplayed by a master.
Obviously not everything is out in the open, but the support by the USA for Israel right now, even in the UN, has never been as pronounced during the years that POS has been in office. And i respectfully suggest that this is down to Bibi!
All I am confident in is that NOTHING presented on television, cable or print is anything but a vague resemblance to the truth - a narrative designed to shape public opinion.
Krauthammer is right. The real enemy here is Iran. You have to save as much of your power and assets for the fight that's going to come between Iran and Israel and not waste it on a ground war in Gaza. Sure, the Islamists fired a lot of rockets into Israel. But Israel certainly paid back the attacks WITH INTEREST and seems to be destroying a lot of the Palestinian targets. So why waste Israeli military lives and assets on a problem that can mostly be contained by air power alone? If there is a war between Israel and Iran, Israel is going to need as many forces as possible for its border with Lebanon because of attacks from Hezbollah. And we still don't know how the civil war in Syria is going to play out. So it would be wise not to waste military assets on a needless ground war if you can still hit the Palestinians hard with air power alone.
Interesting take by Krauthammer, but I think Bibi's statement - link in this post: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2012/11/21/Netanyahu-statement-harsher-military-action
shows that he knows exactly what he is doing. Instead of being where Operation Cast Lead ended, the present situation is far more favourable for Israel because he's got the USA on his side, publicly, as seen by Hillary's and Obama's statements. The point being that this is public, it's not some agreement behind closed doors, and that the door is open for Israel to use ground forces, with the placet of the USA, should that become necessary.
So that's one win for Bibi, the wily fox.
Then there's Egypt - have a look at this excellent commentary:
Morsi is now bound to keep Hamas on a short lead. Yes, he' spout the usual muslim brotherhood nonsense, but I suggest that at least Hillary will have made it clear to him that Congress holds the purse strings, and if they see him play false, they will stop the money, and neither she nor Obama can do anything about it.
Do you really think Israel is now going to sit back and do nothing?
Because nothing could be further from the truth! The analyses by the IDF and others are probably already going on, 24/7.
The difference to what happened during Operation Cast Lead four years ago are so striking, it must be obvious that both the IDF and (some) politicians are very open to learn and develop, as fast as possible: better and more extensive Iron Dome, better and more extensive social media war, better cyber capabilities, better intelligence - you name it.
What has Hamas 'learned' from last time? More and more powerful missiles from Iran. Anything else? Same old same old! They couldn't even get their desired outcry from their lapdog western MSM, like the BBC: there simply were not that many civilian deaths, and the evidence of their huge bombardment of Israeli civilians could simply not be denied.
Hamas may reload - but Israel will outgun them every which way next time round, no doubt about it.
Netanyahu just recently said that he he didn't need to, and wasn't going to wait for the US on Iran. Why would he now be afraid to act in Gaza because of Obama? Either his comments on Iran were just goading the US into a war, or Obama isn't the reason that he went for the cease fire.
I would say that Hussein Obama IS on the side of Hamas, their "Palestinian" human shields, and the of the UN globalists and islamic supremacists that prop them all up. He may be constrained in his outward appearance by US public opinion, but his desgn and loyalties are clear.
Just the standard cease fire terms.
Israel ceases. Arab terrorists fire.
Cease fire is also how Israel manages to snatch defeat from victory.
In Gaza they were celebrating the ceasefire as a victory.
Yeah, there are a few dead arab terrorists and a few blown up buildings in Gaza, but the arab terrorist infrastructure along with its ability to shoot missiles into Israel remains intact. Also, the muslim brotherhood leader in Egypt gets a big feather in his cap on the global stage in this process of getting the Israeli air raids to cease, without the hamass arab terrorists making any substantive concessions. The only question is how much did Morsi, the Egyptian muslim brotherhood leader upstage Hillary and her Obamessiah?
There was never any intention on Israel's part to actually defeat hamass, now or three years ago. The objective was only containment. Now, as was the case three years ago, there is an upcoming election. The goal is to win the election. So, political motivations overrule any national security interest. Morsi, Obama & Hillary are acutely aware of this and played it out for their advantage.
Israel is walking a tightrope, and they know far better than us what the stakes are of any misstep. Israel wants and needs America as an ally, so they are very careful, wisely, to not burn their bridges with us over Obama's foolishness. They know that Obama does not hold all the power in the US, and that the American people are for them, despite Obama's efforts. They are thinking strategically and with the long game in mind, and as much as I would like to see them just go in and clean out that hive of scorpions, I won't armchair quarterback Netanyahu's efforts. He is a man of integrity and a good leader and I pray for his success and for Israel in their peril.
This is an exact repeat of 2009. A bunch of people get killed and then nothing until the next round. It is clear that Israel cannot finish off Hamas. How a tiny land that is supposedly under embargo on all sides can bring in tens of thousands of rockets is something Israel has never explained.
Why does Israel have to explain? Hamas is part of the same terrorists that the rest of the world is fighting.. explain why the terrorists are still around every where.
The "explain" part related to the inability of Israel to shut the arms pipeline down. Hezbollah was depleted after 2006 war. They are back up stronger. Their only access route is on land and sea. How did thousands of missiles get through? Israel don't seem to have trouble picking off terrorists in their cars. Why is Sheikh Nasrallah still alive? He is giving speeches in the open.
A more likely explanation is this:
"Obama demands that it Israel conquers Hamas, she must turn Gaza over to PA"
Oops, sorry... correct link is: http://www.israpundit.com/archives/50908
Bibi is indeed taking a chance... so is America...
But the truth is that Obama simply isn't trust-worthy. He's been a pathological liar from the start and has entertained known terrorists in the White House. He cheered on the Muslim Brotherhood and sends them billions in U.S. taxpayer money. He wears a ring and has upbringing and family/acquaintences that could link him directly to Islam. And then there are the disturbing developments with Benghazi that link Obama to a horrible scandal.
Israel needs to protect Israel and determine what can be done on their own. Most of America stands with Israel... but the ruling class in this country has shown to be unreliable.
GOD has Israel's back... and that's all they need.
I don’t understand… What’s with negotiating cease fires with a terrorist organization like Hamas? Hamas is like a rabid dog. You don’t negotiate with a rabid dog. You put it down. Israel should put this dog down and the US should be enthusiastically supporting them in this internationally significant and noble effort.
This is where you have to stay Mr Krauthammer, foreign affairs because in the current state of this country you have it wrong, I think you were the first to call for amnesty to the illegals, and that my friend is suicide for this country not to mention political suicide for the republican party, as it will make what is already a terrible situation even worst for the republican party as it will increase the voting block for the liberals.
Ronald Reagan % of hispanic vote was 35%, and I remember he won in two massive landslides. So Mr Krauthammer please refrain from advising republicans and just keep analyzing domestic policies.
Does anyone think there will ever be peace between Hamas and Israel? Armageddon is just over the horizon. 5, maybe 6 years. That's it, folks.
Somehow I really don't believe Bibi is all that concerned about that relationship. He's playing the game, letting the self-obsessed US president strut and crow about making a cease-fire agreement that has no chance of enduring. And the good Doctor is aware of this. Biting sarcasm delivered totally deadpan.
