Krauthammer shocks lib panel: Um, David Brooks is NOT a conservative!

How would you describe a political commentator who believes that Tea Partiers “have no sense of moral decency”, once said the conservative movement “has no coherent belief system”, and admires Barack Obama in part because of his “perfectly creased pants”?

Well, if you’re the mainstream media you would put that commentator – David Brooks – solidly in the conservative category. No, seriously! Anyone to the right of a guy like Brooks is on the fringe. Loopy. Extreme. And the media loves this, because Brooks bashes the Right pretty much all the time. Just like they do! How convenient.

Kudos to Charles Krauthammer for setting the record straight here. Listen as the panel reacts to the news with nervous laughter, like children being told for the first time that Santa Claus isn’t real. So precious.

Krauthammer's further to the right than Brooks, but neither of them are exactly rock-ribbed conservative warriors. Indeed.

David Brooks is a moderate, huh? He's open to all views. Except conservative views.

I believe Krauthammer to be a very smart, right-leaning moderate, but not a complete conservative in today's sense. I think there is a delineation that has been more pronounced since 2008 between establishment elites and conservatives. Both can wear the Elephant badge on their chest, conservatives being centered in principles and elites centered in their belief in the "system".

I think at his core he has conservative thought and principle, but he has had difficulty over the last 2 years getting grounded in it vs. how the elites traditionally have corrupted and run the party. Sad.

Overall, I think he is one of the most talented people in his industry.
