Who will be asking the questions?
And I’m hoping to be able to watch!
- http://geopolicy.wordpress.com Tony
I think the town hall voters of NH are the ones asking questions.
- http://geopolicy.wordpress.com Tony
HERMAN CAIN, HERMAN CAIN, HERMAN CAIN.
I really hope he does well with this opportunity. It is a different format for this debate, more like a town hall meeting, so my hats off to Cain.
- Anonymous
I freakin like that dude. If Bachman and Cain get the ticket, I will be one happy cat.
- Anonymous
i think timmy has to go afte rMitt here. i think Newt also has to come out swinging.
bachmann I thin will treat Mitt with kid gloves.
Santourm and Cain are the unknowns. And I think Cain will try to say as little as possible policy wise sticking to talking point soundbites…. ron Paul needs ot make a big move tonight. he is quickly falling by the wayside.
Mitt will try to keep the converstaion on Obama and appear above it all. I don’t think he will be able too. should be a good debate.
- http://geopolicy.wordpress.com Tony
Cain has articulated just as much policy depth as the others it seems to me. In fact he has much bolder ideas, and his foreign policy is far more clear and solidly pro-Israel than any other candidate I have heard.
Although I do agree, I hope he goes into even more depth, I hope they all do. But my favorite is Cain

i’m an independent, and i like cain. i truly hope that he can navigate his way through the process and become the nominee. my question for the republican hopefuls is the same question that they’re asking the obama administration – where are the jobs? president bush cut taxes on the wealthiest, and those tax cuts are still in place. so if the logic is that keeping those taxes in place would create jobs – where are they? it seems ridiculous to me that people talk about “punishing the wealthy” and “hurting the job creators” when in fact those policies have never worked. not under reagan or bush, and it sure isn’t working now. so if the cuts are still in place, i’d like someone to explain it to me, where are the jobs?
- Anonymous
unemployment under Bush was about 4.5% which is basically zero real unemployment…everyone was working, there wasn’t a need for a lot of jobs…now that number is really about 17% and there are millions of people out of work. 1.5 million jobs in 2 years isn’t anything to brag about…it’s just what happens when so many get laid off…they get other jobs, sometimes more than one job. Obama knows he has to keep taxes as low as he can get away with because interest rates are already basically zero. He’s spending more than Bush and expanding government 30-40%. He’s HAS to cut taxes..nothing else will work until we get serious about getting out of debt and letting failed policies and businesses actually FAIL. Ron Paul was dead on right about the housing prices and Obama just extending the depression by bailing out the car companies and banking industry.
- Anonymous
i think he’s screwing up some things royally, but some of your facts are shaky. it’s what makes me worry that we won’t grab the middle and lose this thing. unemployment under bush doubled – it went from 3.4% to 6.8%. the economy was leaking 700,000 jobs a month when he left office. that was not all his fault, just as it’s not all obamashalama’s fault that we’re still in such a mess. obama has cut taxes on most businesses and most people in the country. he should have broken up the banks instead of bailing them out. they are monopolies. 6 banks control 60% of our GDP. break them up. that’s the government’s job. break them up and walk away and let them merge all over again, etc. my question is to those who purport that giving the wealthiest even more money is going to get us out of this. it’s never worked before, and it sure isn’t working now. the bush era tax cuts are still in place. and the overall tax rates are at historic lows across the board. so where are the jobs?

Nothing new being said here. Nobody mentioning NAFTA. (although Paul eluded to 20-30 years of job killing legislation or policy) Paul is the only one addressing the primary issue of monetary policy. Apparently we are going to get three steps forward, and half a step back if one of these guys gets in.
This is a waste of time unless you want to see the next batch of central government republicans. Every one of these candidates have been prepped by the media to be here. Out of 300 million people, this is all we get.
- Anonymous
Come on now man. Let’s get one of these guys in. Bachman and Cain seem solid? Ron Paul blames America for 911; that is the reason his isn’t going to win. Nobody wants another Obama clone blaming America for everyone hating us.
- http://twitter.com/AMYROWILSON AMY WILSON
Amen!! Are any of these candidates against the FED? Do they even talk about it? This is the reason we have massive inflation coming our way. You can talk about all types of policies, but if the FED keeps printing money without oversight, there is no chance to fix the problem. Why are the candidates avoiding this issue? It’s like no matter what, American conservatives are still blind to the establishment GOP that is going to give us nothing but another big government conservative. The media has twisted what Ron Paul stands for because AGAIN, like the author of “The Creature from Jeckyll Island” said on GB – the FED owns politicians, the media and organizations. That’s why you never hear them condemning the FED. And the #1 reason they can’t let Ron Paul be elected – because he would bring REAL, POSITIVE change to our country. Read his words and listen to what he says – not how it has been spun! It’s sad to see so many with wool still covering their eyes.
- Anonymous
You’re right, Amy. Ron Paul was the only one on stage who really understands the problems of our economy. I counted about six times when one of the other candidates said something like, “It’s like Ron Paul said…”
This was Ron Paul’s debate. They should have renamed it the Ron Paul/CNN Debate. Every candidate tried to sound like Ron Paul. Even on foreign policy. Hell, the Navy guy with three kids in the military basically said, “When are we going to do what Ron Paul says and bring the troops home?”
The status quo candidates realize that our insane foreign policy isn’t selling to the America voters. Romney wants to bring the troops home? Who knew? During the last election he was in favor of McCain’s 50 to 100 year war plan. Of course Romney always has and always will say what he thinks is popular at the moment. He is a man of no convictions. Abortions, mandates, foreign policy, it’s all fingers in the wind for him.
As for the other candidates, I suppose Bachmann did the best. It was a pretty clever move of her to announce her filing as a candidate. That will guarantee some headlines. I found out that she is in favor of states’ rights…unless it’s an issue she’s against.
Herman Cain has a plan…more planning. He’s going to surround himself with smart people and have a meeting to set a date to talk about a plan for future planning. He also accomplished what everybody thought was impossible: he managed to paint himself as a racist.
Newt Gingrich wasn’t satisfied to let Herman Cain hang himself, so he jumped in, unsolicited, and called Muslims Nazi-commies. Other than that he was unnoticeable except for some kind of blathering about the space program.
Pawlenty was as boring as ever. He refused to go after Romney and he complimented Ron Paul about four times. I think he’s already running for VP.
Why was Santorum even there?
So, yeah, you’re right, it’s disappointing that the other candidates can’t even put their finger on the root causes of our economic woes, but it is encouraging that the framing of the debate is slowly but surely moving our way.
- http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo The Wizard of Oz
“Herman Cain has a plan…more planning. He’s going to surround himself with smart people and have a meeting to set a date to talk about a plan for future planning. He also accomplished what everybody thought was impossible: he managed to paint himself as a racist.”
Unfortunately, way back when Cain first made that statement about appointing a Muslim, TRS called it game over for him. He almost manage to salvage it and turn it around, but I think that now he’s pretty much in process of picking the dagger he’s going to use to slay his campaign with.
He still has a pretty good shot because I think he resonates with the lowest common denominator.

Everyone on that stage other than Ron Paul are conservative liberals. They push for a little less government take over of our lives. They still believe in social programs and the control is gives them. They still serve the banking cartel. They would keep the war on drugs, poverty, education, obesity, brown people in the middle east, and any other war they could run while keeping the Patriot act and Homeland Security in full swing.
Newt was lying through his teeth when he said bring the troops home and protect the border with half of Homeland security. These guys know what their fool voters want to hear. Romney and Newt are the scariest guys on the stage.
Bachman is a “reformed” conservative along with Santorum. Cain is a professional talker and an ex-corporate head. Pawlenty is a consummate politician and an admitted government control guy.
Ron Paul is the only one who has a track record of sticking to his guns with real convictions about freedom. He literally started the Tea Party, then watched it get consumed by neo-cons in sheep’s clothing.
I like to think that America will wake up when the dollar crashes and we go into martial law, officially. The more I think about it, the more I think that most people won’t have a clue as to why we ended up there.
How many people do you know that know about America proclaiming bankruptcy in the 1930s, and that we have been in a controlled bankruptcy every since? How many people actually know that there is no US currency anymore, just the Fed Res note? How many people know that our government won’t let congressmen see the gold that is supposedly in Fort Knox, and that it is probably because there is no gold? How many people know about Reagan’s speech saying “not one US tax dollar goes to American infrastructure”, and that our tax dollars are paid directly to the Fed to pay interest on the debt?
Yeah, we are in trouble.
- Anonymous
If any of these guys ever get up there and say “the Fed prints money from nothing, lends it to our government, then straps the American people with the debt to be paid through the IRS straight to the Fed, and America puts up its real wealth as collateral for this fake money”, my heart would stop in my tracks.
Ron Paul has said this, but nobody listens. At least not the guys who the media puts up. These guys know this, but serve the Fed Res system. That is why Newt was pushing for carbon taxes to be paid to the banking cartel. This election needs to be about ending the Fed, and ending the wars that we fight for the banking cartels and world leaders.
People are so emotionally attached to 911 that they can’t see the most obvious of conspiracies. We are not fighting these wars for our own good purposes. Ron Paul knows this and says it regularly.

I had been favorably impressed with Cain before this debate, but his answers on the foreign policy questions were worrisome. Quoting his grandmother that “this is just a big mess” in answer to specific questions about Afghanistan and the Middle East? He clearly is not comfortable with foreign policy issues and, after 4 years of Obama screwing things up for us all over the world, we are going to need a President who shows a strong sense of direction on how to sort things out.

Cain sure needs to polish up on the foreign policy. Grandma motherhood statement on national security and foreign policy won’t help.

I couldn’t watch it because we don’t get CNN. I thought C-SPAN carried all the debates. Oh well.
A quick read-around the right-o-sphere shows a lot of regular folks thought Romney did OK, Pawlenty less so (whiffed on a perfect chance to hammer Mitt), Bachmann well (although lots of folks are easily annoyed at her points about having fostered so many kids–I don’t get that at all). Cain not so well, but not terrible, and Santorum poorly.
Newt was evidently fun to watch (a lot wrote something like that), and Ron Paul was Ron Paul, who is not a Republican, so why bother.
The pundits of course are spinning their butts off for “their” guy, who seems to be named “Romlenty.”
Palin’s name seemed to come up in every third comment on the debate. It’s almost like she was there.
Did I get anything wrong?

I am liking Bachman, TPaw and Cain at the moment and with the present field. The moderator was a nitwit…hope the next debate is not hosted by CNN. He would not let anyone finish a sentence. Terrible job by King.

Am I the only one who thinks the American Idol or Dancing with the Stars type questions are stupid, a waste of time, irrelevant,…and on and on. I painstakingly listened to this. So they are all private sector is the answer to resurrecting the economy and Obama ruined everything. Whatev! Why do I not believe that this is not the answer? I also don’t think that universal healthcare costs taxpayers more. We are ALREADY paying for those that can’t pay for healthcare. I just had to see what the Dems were up against. If it were wind, I wouldn’t even feel it.

Oh, AND apparently you have to have had many offspring in order to be a good Republican. Does correcting neighborhood kids count?
***CURRENT REAGAN LIBRARY DEBATE CAN BE SEEN HERE***
Tonight Republicans debated in New Hampshire, hosted by CNN. Romney, Santorum, Paul, Bachmann, Pawlenty, Gingrich and Cain all battled it out on the stage.
