via Big Government. Dude! This is enraging, and it should be. At a public gathering, a man is filming a speech given by Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Kitzhaber when the moderator announces for people to stop filming. The man continues to film, believing it to be his first amendment right, when two thugs come and sit beside him. When they fail to deter this man from filming, they grab his camera and punch him in the face, right there during the speech.

Thanks also to Eyeblast for posting a separate copy, in case this one disappears.

This happens all the time. I live in Or. Kitzhaber is a flaming liberal and was at a liberal church stroking their people. He didn't want it filmed. Anyone who doesn't want it filmed is doing wrong by someone else. His oponent isn't much better. Just a slick republican. Oregon sucks politically. These were obviously thugs who had a plan on dealing with whitey conservative filmers. I don't know the law for sure, but I would lean toward the private property owner stating the rules. They did anounce it. If this was on public property, they would be infringing on his rights without doubt. Law enforcement does the same thing on public land all the time. You decide who the criminals are, because law enforcement and the courts don't know.

Good question! Why have whites allowed the progressive establishment to beat them down so badly that they won't even defend their person and property.....much less their civil rights? Why didn't anyone stand with this man...........black, white or otherwise? Here's a question. How do blacks who know first hand how important civil rights, equal treatment under the law, equal protection under the Constitution and equal rights are, so easily violate the rights of others? How do blacks, who have suffered more than any in America the injustice of racism, so easily, routinely, proudly, and blatantly not only overlook racism against others but practice it themselves?Another question. How will stereotypes (like blacks are aggressive and violent) ever end if people keep living up to them?

This man was harassed and assaulted in a church because he was exercising his civil rights and documenting a public speech by a public official at a public forum.

A church house is private property - all in attendance are guests of the church and need to abide by their rules. It is just that simple. Outside, on public property, that would be a different story.

Private Property - Are you serious?? All private property must abide by the Local Laws, which in turn must abide by the Federal Laws. It is just That Simple!

Wrong- The camera man even showed us the church's flier- it clearly marked this event as a public event- the doors were opend to the public and no fee was charged. They cannot change the rules in the middle of the game.

Just because the public is welcome doesn't mean cameras are welcome. I'm surprised at the conservatives who don't understand the concept of private property rights. Just because a church service is open to the public doesn't mean that you can walk in naked or scream obscenities, or try to out shout the speaker in the name of the first amendment. The property owner can't hit you in the face, but they can have you removed if you're not willing to abide by the rules.

On a side note.....had that been me who was harassed and then assaulted, the only recognizable remains of that camera would have been the impressions of it on that guys head! They'd have had to cut me off of that jackass with the jaws of life!

So the premise is that civil rights don't count on private property? Yes and No!

When you grant an open invitation to the "general public" to come to a "public event" on your private property, does that give you the right to exclude blacks....or gays.....or Muslims? Can you just vandalize vehicles and steal everything inside? Can you choose a child for sacrifice on the alter or rape all women who show up wearing blue? Can you just make a rule that says all white men will be stoned to death who show up? Of course not!!!! Why? Because that would be a violation of the law and their civil rights!!!!

You can do those things on private property as long as everyone is there for a private function that is by invitation only and where these are the rules and all in attendance have willfully and knowingly agreed to submit to them before hand, but when you invite the general public that means everyone can come and their civil rights come with them.

How long will it take us to understand that the Constitution trumps all laws and all rules, and that allowing anyone's civil rights to be violated threatens the civil rights of us all. Either there is equal treatment under the law and equal protection under the Constitution or there isn't. Picking and choosing is the very thing that has kept us from ever realizing true freedom for everyone in America. That dream has not been realized yet and never will be until we stop making excuses and sidestepping the Constitution, and start demanding that EVERYONE'S civil rights are protected EVERYWHERE and EVERY TIME!!!

Why isn't this being considered a racial attack? If the cameraman had been black and the thugs white, what do you think the media would have done with that?

Be better than them by not grabbing others' cameras and them denying their rights. Exercise your rights by suing those who messed with your property and assaulted you. Let the world be warned.

I wonder if it's a black guy who had the other camcorder or if the other camcorder was covert enough not to be noticed since that other cameraman managed to catch the other angle shot.

Just wondering.

I noticed that right after the assault the 2nd camera guy started moving towards the ruckus. I'd like to know what happened next.

Unfrigginbelievable...but not surprising. Wasn't it the Chicago thug, currently Community Agitator-in-Chief who proclaimed, "get in their faces"? This is very ugly how people behave when they don't get their way.

Clear cut case of Assault/Battery,Possible Intimidation( don't know how Oregon treats this), Possible Civil rights violations, might even be classified as a hate crime. As far as just who the African American Alliance might be,could be a type of ACORN as the only hit in a search turned up this organization in Oregon, www.aaah.org , they list themselves as a housing assistance group. Why is that no surprise?

aaah.org claims this is their 10th year in business, but they've only counseled 800 hundred prospective buyers? Doesn't add up to much work- looks suspicious. ACORN connection possible.

ONLY when it is a prog who is the victim, when it's a conservative, they are just getting payback.

After seeing this, it is so tempting to arm myself everywhere I go. You can't even BE an American around these thugs. Exercising your constitutional rights is a sin in that church apparently. I wish I could say I was surprised, but unfortunately, I see a lot more of this happening in the very near future. I guess it's time for me to start hitting the gym harder! I would have made a scene!
